Diner Reviews
  • "Excellant food, service and wine list---memorable meal."

  • "Our waiter really irritated me. He asked to start the meal whether we wanted still or sparkling water. I elected still. He never mentioned any other option. Half way through the meal I realize he's serving us out of Evian bottles, not the water pitcher all other waiters are using. When I get the bill, there's a $16 charge for water service. Dishonest in my book. Food (steaks) were OK, but not great. Quality cuts of meat, but bland preparation. Finally, the ambiance was killed by some jerk family with their 3 year old who was being allowed to run around the place, and for whom they played Disney movies on an Ipad at the table without headphones. Why the management of an alleged 4 Diamond restaurant would tolerate this is beyond me."

  • "Highly recommended, Excellent food and service, great place for Adults only, excellent for romantic occasions, views are also very nice. Superb wine lists are also noted."

  • "This is a very exclusive, very expensive restaurant. The food was good, but for me, it was a little too over the top in service and in prices. Expect $58 for a ribeye with ala carte. The wine was far overpriced compared to other restaurants. Probably about 400 percent of store price for basic bottles of wine. I figure if they have you on the food, they shouldn't gouge you for wine. The wine list is not exhaustive and the sommeliers chose wines that most of us regular wine drinkers have never heard of, making it difficult to choose. I drink nice wines, but the starting prices was $75/bottle and most were in the $150/bottle range. For most of us, that's excessive. One healthy glass per person and you're on to the second bottle."

  • "Reservation honored on time. While the restaurant was very busy the service was prompt and attentive. The initial offer of a selection of champagnes was impressive as part of the introduction to the Club. Wine selection was extensive and on expensive side. Menu choices were varied and plentiful. Our food was very good and tasty. The Banffshire Club atmosphere is unique and affords a dining experience similar to dining in a castle. We enjoyed the evening and the experience. Recommend the Banffshire Club highly as my wife considered the meal one of the best of those eaten in the Fairmont Hotels in the Canadian Rockies."

  • " The service at the Banffshire Club, from reservation to table side, was amazing. The menu looked promising, with focus on local products. The dishes were well presented. But the actual food was - disappointing. The dishes lacked in complexity and tasted rather bland (asparagus salad, hanger steak, pork chops). At one point we joked that we must have colds that we were not aware of. Again, service was amazing and really tried to make up for the fact that we were obviously not thrilled with the food (in hopefully a non-obnoxious way!). We just hoped for more given the level of service and the amazing service (and price point!). I have since heard that there may be a new chef with hopes to liven up the food - and I wish them the best."

  • "The Banffshire Club was a 3.5-star experience but feeling generous I rounded it up to four. With few tweaks, however, it could be really be a five-star experience. Overall, the food is great at the Banffshire Club but you pay for it. I admire their efforts to turn an old stately dining room into a modern Canadian bistro but I feel they could go further to make the experience feel like that. It would not take away that you are in a grand old dining room, but it would feel more like modern dining in opulent surroundings. I hope that they do take steps to modernize the experience because the food is quite good."

  • "We enjoyed a fabulous quiet, romantic dinner which exceeded all my expectations. I am the kind of person that seldom gives a "maximum rating" .... I just don't. However, in this case, a surprise birthday "getaway" for my wife was definitely high-lighted with the dining experience at The Banffshire! Excellent is the only word even close to defining our experience. My wife was beaming the whole time and the only regret was the time passed too quickly! I would not hesitate to recommend this fine dining establishment to anyone! Well done, Banffshire!"

  • "The menu is a great showcase for Alberta cuisine with creative dishes featuring game and other more domestic Alberta ingredients. The old style setting, great wine list and excellent service also contribute to make this a worthwhile dining spot."

  • "We had great expectations. Food was good not great. Dessert was not good at all and that was a big disappointment. Delicious coffee and a waiter that made up for the whole experience"

  • "This was really an exceptional experience. The Food was cooked to perfection. I had the bison And it was just melted in my mouth. So on top of Being cook perfectly, the ingredients are really the Best you can find on a plate. The only wish you may have is to have more on Your plate to extend your pleasure."

  • "I would recommend this restaurant for any special occasion. It's was a delicious meal with knowledgable, prompt, professional and friendly service, our server is Adam and he made the night memorable! Great wine list; we did need some help choosing the wine and Adam did a great job picking an amazing bottle for us! Thank you"

  • "We came to Banff Springs Hotel for a second year this fall to enjoy some hiking and again included dinner at Banffshire Club. It's a dining experience we love from the rolling champagne cart greeting through dessert. Service is really the shining star here. Great place for a quiet, relaxed, and pampered dining experience."

  • "We had the tasting menu with wine pairings ($300 per person), and it was well worth the price. The menu was varied and complex, and everything was prepared to perfection. The service was attentive without being overbearing. It was a memorable evening and one of the best tasting menus we have ever had. We had the opportunity to taste some spectacular wines that were perfectly matched to the food."

  • "Need to loosen up a bit. Menu very creative and the food was very good. Server made us feel a bit like "hicks" which we are not. We wanted to change a menu item a bit to eliminate a food we do not like (mussels) and were told that you would not responsibility for such a change. Hmmmm. Seems like you should be able to eat in a fine restarant but also have fun and not feel a bit insulted."

  • "My husband and I dined on August Long weekend while vacationing in Banff. We went for the seven course meal without the wine pairing. Every course was surprise and all were delicious. Service was outstanding from the moment we entered the restaurant till leaving. It was quiet and diners consisted mainly of couples. We were treated to complimentary ice wine with our dessert. I would definitely go back. Probably not for the full seven course, as it requires a lot of time, but for a simple 3 or 4 course dinner."

  • "Came here as a special occasion experience last night and it was by far one of the best meals of our lives because of the level of service and quality of food. We did a 5 course dinner with a standard wine pairing and we couldn't have been happier. The foie gras was one of our favorite dishes. Would love to come back next time we're in town!"

  • "Banffshire Club is located in the beautifully elegant Banff Springs Hotel. The restaurant is lovely but there is no view from this restaurant. Our waiter was knowledgeable but bordering on pretentious. Both the Beef Tartar and Arctic Char were wonderful but the special Scallop appetizer was nothing special. They have an incredibly extensive wine menu."

  • "This year the scene for my wife's birthday was the Banff Springs Hotel and for dinner it had to be the Banffshire Club. I had flowers delivered to the restaurant which the wait staff had on our table when we arrived. They took exquisite care of us through the whole meal which was excellent. It was a truly memorable occasion !"

  • "I brought my mother to Banff Springs for a bit of a break and made sure we came here for dinner. What can I say other than WOW! I the service was outstanding and the food was just amazing! We were treated like we were the the only ones there. Thank you for making my mom feel very special!"

  • "This is a very expensive restaurant and as such in the "Castle" we would only expect the best. Initially they arrive with a trolley of champagnes by the glass which are pricey in itself. Bottled water or carbonated water is offered but you have to ask for tap water. WE were coming as locals and there was meant to be a "Chef's special menu" Well this was simply pick form the menu. Sides were extra. A bit misleading. The special for locals price was near what it would cost if we had picked from the menu anyway. The food was fussily done and over salted but good. Wines start at $50 (few) and go up to the $100 mark very quickly. An extensive list for sure though. Does it match what is expected for the place and prices - not reall"
