A word from Bamiyan Afghani Restaurant
Bamiyan is named in honor of the Buddhas of Bamiyan, two enormous statues carved into sandstone cliffs in the central Afghan town of Bamiyan, on the ancient Silk Road that linked East Asia with Europe. The famous road provided a trade thoroughfare that introduced spices and food traditions across continents and cultures.
The restaurant features Afghan and Persian selections. The service is professional, with servers taking the time to explain dishes and seasonings. American palates will find Bamiyan's delightful food subtly yet exotically seasoned with coriander, cumin, cinnamon and fresh cilantro. We do offer halal meat (lamb, beef, chicken).
The menu includes vegetarian fare (eggplant, dumplings, potatoes and spinach) as well as meats (lamb, chicken, and beef). Dishes carry the right complexity of spices to tingle the tongue, but not to overwhelm. Bamiyan will delight diners with its Afghani specialties. Visit the wonders of Bamiyan when planning your next dining.

The service really stands out; the greeting was very friendly and the service was very responsive. The menu features Afghani and Persian cuisine, so there is plenty to choose from and a plethora of interesting tastes and textures.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed this Afghan/Persian dining experience. Every dish was exquisite, flavorful, and attractively presented. Service was generally unobtrusive but friendly. We weren't sure what to expect, but found everything wonderful and will definitely return.

I really love the flavors of everything in this place. For me, the only downside is the portion sizes, which are too small for my taste. I end up having to order 1.5 to 2 entrees, possibly splitting 3 entrees with another person. That's only because the amount of meat is not enough (3 lamb chops, 1 lamb shank, etc.).

Super-delicious Afghan and Persian food are very different from Indian, though they use many similar spices. The flavors are more delicate, with a full and lively character all their own, and not as hot. Vegetarian Friendly. The restaurant is located in the historic Gilman Village, a very charming and lovely spot to linger on a summer day. We will definitely be back for more!

  • Great flavors, meat portions small

I love Bamiyan and have been going for years. Their food is excellent, averaging 4-5 stars. But I lowered its rating because the portions--particularly the meat--are too small in the dishes that I like. Maybe I'll just ask for extra next time.

  • Don't miss the lamb!

The lamb dish was probably some of the best lamb I have ever tasted! The chicken was a little bit dry, but maybe because I didn't use the yogurt sauce on it. Great meal, interesting flavors. We'll be back.

Very interesting and different. If you are looking for something unusual then this is your place. Delicious Afghani cuisine. I want to come back in the summer when they open up to the patio outside. The heart shaped appetizers on Valentine's Day were a nice touch. The dessert was outstanding.

I have dined at Bamiyan Afghani Restaurant twice and found the food to be most excellent, interestingly spiced, most tender and delicious lamb chops (the best I have ever had!). The waiter is very attentive, speedy and very kind. The chef knows his business! Every dish we ordered was tasty and delicious! YumYum!! Can't say enough good things about this place. Try it! You'll love it!

What an unusal find - Persian and Afghan food! The owners are Persian and Afghan :-) The menu is divided. The waiter recommended the Afghan food as having more distinct flavor. Stuck in Gilman a huge collection of restaurants and shops you could easily miss it. The atmosphere is pleasant if unremarkable. But the food was delicious like the pommegranite chicken and the spinach appetizer. If you live in Issaquah it is a good find!
