  • "My husband and I decided to try Bambudda on a recommendation from a friend. Upon entering we found the temperature a bit cold and the music a bit loud, but we soon forgot about these when the food started arriving. The chicken skins were crispy little leaves of flavor, complemented by the seasoned lemon wedge that you squeeze over the skins. The nectarines in the nectarine salad were incredibly sweet and juicy. The beef and broccoli was delicious and fully satisfying to my carnivore husband who was impressed by the generous beef portion in the dish. My favorite dish was the duck served with burdock and some kind of sweet plum or cherry? The combination of these three flavors was exquisite."

  • "I have read about the cocktails here and have been meaning to try them. I had the "mother-in law" and it was very good. We shared a snack, small plate and 2 not so small plates and they were all very good, but the Duck was incredible. We will be going back again soon."

  • "We were greeted by the owner of the restaurant whose name escapes me. It was humbling to hear his story of how as a waiter in one of our fancier hotels, he saved all his tips, eschewing enticements from his colleagues to go out for drinks as it was his dream to open a restaurant. Which of course he has now done. Not a chef himself, but being of Chinese descent, he knew he wanted to offer food with a strong Chinese accent. He found a wonderful Caucasian chef who loves Chinese food and has now been given the opportunity to try out his Chinese-forward creations."

  • "What a great spot to take friends or visitors! Very good cocktail list ( skip the hibiscus bubble tea cocktail, just awful ). Nice food in mostly small portions. Every dish was tasty and beautifully presented, except for the Halibut Cheeks which were stringy. Try the King Pea Shoots. Salads could use a bit more imagination. Most everything was served with either pickled cucumbers and/or crispy pigs ears, but don't be put off as they are just tiny garnishes. A bit more precision in both kitchen and bar would turn this place into a must. At present it's one of the best newer places we've tried in ages. Service is outstanding. Recommended."

  • "Being vegetarian and celiac tends to limit my food choices but at Bambudda, everything I could eat was delicious so I didn't even feel like I was missing out. For gluten free people, you need to bring your own soy sauce."

  • "Dined here for the first time with a friend. Ordered the tuna, pork belly, wood ear and eggplant. The Wood Ear had a nice texture and the flavour was nice. But slowly as we dug in, I bit into a grainy flavourless crunch that did not dissolve in my mouth. Dirt? But amazingly enough I put up with it, thinking I must be mistaken, it was inconsistent. But my last bite had so much and with bigger granules that one actually got stuck between my teeth and coloured the rest of dinner. We told the host who came around to pour our wine, but he did not mention it to our server. We did not want to make anymore of a fuss so we left the issue. Somehow after that our table was no longer getting bussed. "

  • "This is a wonderful restaurant with inventive food. Its hard to describe. The Chef emphasis on taste and textures in the most creative ways, and changes offerings regularly so you never get bored. Try everything at least once - Ray, the owner will let you leave decisions in his hands and you can be surprised. Fantastic host, great ambiance and a never disappointed experience!"

  • "Had a really fun dinner here with a group of girls. We tried a bunch of different plates and loved them all. I have to say our favourite was a bit of a surprise to all of us... crispy chicken skins with salt-and-pepper crusted lemon wedges squeezed on top. So good, we had to order more. Great cocktails, too."

  • "The service is always attentive and the staff is always provides great food and cocktail recommendations. The food is Asian but has an interesting twist. The pork belly, sautéed pea tips and eggplant were delicious. And if you're having dessert, you can't go wrong with the panacotta. I always have a great time at Bambudda and look forward to my next dining experience there."

  • "We tried Bambudda on a Thursday, and it was fantastic. There weren't many other tables so we got really attentive service, with personal recommendations from the server. I had the China Rose cocktail, which was perfect and came with a nice little anecdote about the inspiration for the drink. We had the pork buns, tuna tataki, la mein, and the pork belly. Everything came out pretty quickly from the kitchen & were great for sharing. The pork belly was so flavourful and crispy but my fav was the la mein. We will definitely be going again. It would be a great place for a group as well."

  • "Overall the food was rated as only OK as the portions seemed small for the 'large plates', we tried most of the items and I would have to say that we enjoyed all but Crispy Chicken in sweet n'sour, odd taste. We just wish there was more on the plates, would have added to the value. The drinks were done right, interesting and tasty. We can see ourselves enjoying some cocktails at the bar in the summer with the doors open to the street. The room is excellent, lots of 'areas' and levels, and the decor is well done, great feel to the room."

  • "1. Crispy Chicken Skin: 4 pieces of skin, 2 lime wedges, Salt, Pepper $4. markup 3.80 2. Grilled. Octopus with potatoes 14: slightly over cooked, duck egg yolk with mayo and potatoes - bland 3. Grill steelhead 19: overcooked w white stuff is oozing out. An indication that the protein is coming out and thus overcooked. Drizzle some XO chili oil over burnt turnip & veg into a puree. This is the Asian fusion element in the dish. premium pricing on such simple, poor executed plates. My opinion is that when the product is overcooked, and executed poorly, it lacks VALUE, not price. I will end with a fair assessment, the waitress serving us was a true professional. Hats off to her."

  • "This is the sort of place where you can order a variety of small plates to share which is what the two of us did. All the dishes were well prepared with interesting flavour combinations and attractive presentations. Our server made some useful suggestions. Price including a nice bottle of B.C. wine was very reasonable, service well paced, and the owner took pains to explain the flavour combinations. Highly recommended."

  • "Our multi generational group all seemed to have fun, but I think everyone secretly left a little hungry. We could have used a little stronger guidance in feeding our group of six. Although we had fun browsing the smallish menu we would have been better off with enough rice for the group, right at the beginning, to augment all the interesting "bites" that we had. Most of the plates have really been designed for two, possibly three people. Eventually we got a little tired of having to look at the menu again and pick out another couple of dishes. I think I would rather have had a whole flight of dishes recommended and just had them come regularly. The staff and service were absolutely exceptional."

  • "Chicken skins rock, tuna tartar is an interesting twist but overdressed, crispy pork belly isn't crispy and feels like it's been boiled and then seared, scallops are great but the mushrooms do NOT go with the dish at all. The cocktails were awesome and inventive, and our waitress was accommodating, and mostly attentive. I wanted to love this place, but they need some work. Dishes came too quickly, rice we ordered never came, and sommelier had to be reminded to bring wine and then we poured our own glasses the rest of the night. Ideas from the kitchen aren't cohesive, and at these prices I expect more in the vein of quality and consistency. Hope they take these reviews to heart to keep their doors open, would love to see them succeed."

  • "Excellent food- they made me dishes not on the Dine out Vancouver Menu- very much worth it! The staff were so friendly and prompt but weren't hovering. The best part was that we were treated to a dining experience. We took 2.5 hours to enjoy our food, we weren't rushed nor was food pushed on the table. We had a remarkable meal and I am looking forward to my next visit."

  • "Went for the last day of Dine Out and shared the 3-course menu as none of us have been there before. We were not disappointed. The food incorporated original and exciting tastes and, most importantly, we noticed that they use quality ingredients. Although I do not eat pork, one of my friends who is a real foodie and excellent cook, commented on how well the crispy pork belly was done... it was not too fatty and perfect cut. The tuna was superb too. The staff could not be nicer and more accommodating to our requests. Our server, Sarah, is so pleasant, energetic and knowledgeable... she recognized me from the old Miku at Guinness Tower... for all the diners servers see, what a memory! I ordered the wine pairing and enjoyed it very much."

  • "Worst dining experience. Party of nine waited half an hour for our table. When we were finally seated we had to wait again for menus. The waitress was horrible. Very inattentive had to wait for drink orders and our waitress never asked if we wanted second drinks. Some of the food was delivered before our drinks arrived. Half the guests had drinks and no Food and the other half the opposite. The waitress never checked on the table. The food was mediocre. However even if the food was amazing I would never go back given that the restaurant is so poorly run. When the bill was brought out we were told there was an 18% gratuity! We were shocked given the horrible service! This restaurant deserves to go out of business!"

  • "Some dishes are delicious-the crispy chicken skins with peppered lime, the modern take on pork with radish cake, the squid salad, and outstanding-best I have had-was the crispy pork belly sliced into three huge pieces over a bok choy with grainy mustard. Yum. I found the Lo Mein dish disappointing-a small serving and not especially interesting to eat. The non alcoholic drinks I loved. Service was cheerful but the crowd overwhelmed the staff I think. The lack of any hot tea or coffee seems an omission."

  • "Had never been but it was the ONLY Chinese restaurant on OpenTable! We were seated in their reserve section rather than the main restaurant, which is in itself was somewhat depressing. Celebrating the Year of the Horse at this restaurant was disappointing. While the service was good, the food was at best mediocre, the mushroom dish I ordered was flat. The wines with meals were inferior. Food choices were extremely limited on this set menu. The desert we never ate at all. The only highlight was the after-dinner Port."

  • "We visited Bambudda for Dine Out, and absolutely loved the food, the cocktails, the service, everything! Meals were delicious and beautifully plated, and servings were generous - we couldn't even finish our mains, which is unusual for Dine Out meals. The combination of Asian and West Coast influences came together really well in new & exciting ways. The suggested cocktail pairings worked beautifully. Great value, too! The service was impeccable, and at the end of the meal we were visited by whom I believe to be the owner, and he handed us 10% discount cards to come back in February. We absolutely will be back, and we'll definitely be bringing more people with us! Thanks for a great evening."

  • "Bambudda's unassuming street front opens to a bright and airy space warmed by soft light, tropically inspired wall paper, and cleanly lacquered black tables. Instantly one senses a successful mix of les aesthetiques chinois et francais. Reminiscent of dim sum, each plate we were served featured a perfect portion of bite sized delicacies ranging from radish cakes to perfectly seared tuna to crisp and rich pork belly, each with the perfect sauce. At the end of the meal there was no feeling of being either over- or under-fed; just enjoyment. And the service was excellent! The staff were all highly professional, very friendly and very attentive. We wanted for nothing during our stay and were delighted by everything."

  • "We decided to try Bambudda on a recommendation from a co-worker. Wow were we ever pleased. The food was absolutely delicious and the portion sizes were very generous. The cocktails are also top notch. We were seated near the kitchen window and server station so there was a bit too much noise for my liking but it did mean that our service was top notch. We were a bit spoiled as we got to ask what every single drink ingredient was...a free lesson! Highly recommend."

  • "Had a different take on chinese food for sure. Not the typical "lor bak go" we have in chinese restaurant. Parsimmon pudding was more like carrot cake. Crispy pork skin was yummy, a little heavy on the mustard (perhaps it was wasabi?) - good choice on the waitress recommending rice. Really needed the rice with the pork. It's common for Chinese to be heavy and to be eaten with rice!"

  • "We really enjoyed our first visit during Dine Out. Their dine out menu is an absolute steal. We started the evening with some fantastic cocktails at the bar. So creative. It was hard to choose which one to have. We then enjoyed every delicious aspect of our meal as their dine out menu includes some of their most popular items such as their smoked brisket radish cakes and their decadent pork belly. Service was friendly and we never felt rushed even with it being a Dine Out evening. Great night."
