Diner Reviews
  • "Broken AC, provided with wrong menu, fan crashing at my feet, waitress much too busy to handle her tables. Less than perfect. Food was better than good but not very rememberable."

  • "Por su ambiente, buena cocina y sobre todo sus postres es excelente!!"

  • "We had amazing service from the waitress Karina! It was wonderful cause we're celebrating our 14th wedding anniversary, exactly at the same restaurant as we did at the first year!"

  • "We had a nice evening at Balthazar. There were 3 of us dining and the food was good. It was a busy Saturday night and the only downside was the tables were very close together. Our table had to be physically pulled out so that we could visit the washrooms. Apart from that a nice experience."

  • "Food was delicious and service was great! It was a bit noisy but overall a great experience."

  • "I had been before for brunch with friends and loved it, but when I returned with my husband and kids it was a different experience. It was so loud that my kids had their hands over their ears, and we felt that we wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible for some peace and quiet. The food was superb, but not appreciably better than Shake Shack for an 11 yr-old!"

  • "we had to cancel our trip to France this summer, so breakfast at Balthazar was a momentary replacement - wonderful atmosphere, service and food"

  • "the only *but* is the temperature, the place was really hot, A/C would have made our lunch perfect"

  • "Años tratando de venir para que al final lo único bueno es el servicio, no me importa pagar 200usd si todo esta increíble pero si no lo esta sí enoja."

  • "We waited only about 5 minutes past our reservation time of 1:45 for lunch. As always, every table was taken and rightly so. Although we had a modest lunch (an omelet and a ham/cheese sandwich), everything tasted good +. Lots of pleasant, efficient staff, from hostesses to waitstaff to busboys to suits who walk the room, contribute to Balthazar's continued popularity."

  • "The pinnacle of fabled Americanized brasseries perhaps more venerable than their French counterparts. Maniacally consistent and abuzz. Bar steak and fries may be among the best values in the city. Picture perfect, of course."

  • "Perfect mix between locals and tourism. The food was delicious!!!"

  • "I don't know much about NYC as I live in LA but when I visit NYC I love to eat at Balthazar."

  • "Judging by the glowing reviews, I was disappointed. I expected a high-end NYC institution but felt like I was at a high end chain restaurant. The place was packed on Sunday night we were seated immediately. The first thing I noticed was the place was very hot, which helped our waiter with his authentic French smell. Despite his BO, the waiter was friendly and attentive. I have no complaints about the food or service, but was put off by the overall atmosphere of the place. I would not recommend this place for a special occasion or for reservations, but if I needed a good place to eat lunch while shopping in Soho, I may give it another shot. I just expected more."

  • "We totally enjoyed our dinner - food was delicious and interesting. Service is impeccable. It is time they refreshed the décor though. Love this place."

  • "Went to Balthazar for brunch on a Saturday morning (anytime before 11AM is a good time to go if you really want to take your guests from out of town there and did not make a reservation in advance. Service was excellent, ambience was relaxed and very pleasant. Brunch is more of an American "meal"; would suggest going there for lunch or dinner given that the restaurant is big on French food."

  • "We met friends for brunch and didn't want to leave! The food and service were fabulous. I would go again in a hearbeat."

  • "We were recommended to Balthazar's for the great food, fun drinks and downtown vibe. The food was fine- expensive for the quality but generally well done. The service was poor. We had 6:00 reservations so it was not packed. The server never came back to ask if we wanted additional drinks or if our meal was to our liking. The servers appeared to be bored and while perfunctory in their roles they did not seem to like their job. We would probably not return."

  • "Balthazar is a "must go" for my daughter and I when we visit NYC. The food is excellent and the service is great - attentive and polite without being overbearing or snooty. My favorite is the eggplant sandwich but I've also enjoyed their burgers and salads. (There is much more on the menu, but I always gravitate to the aforementioned). If you have room for dessert, the profiteroles are awesome. Top that off with a lively and chic crowd perfect for people watching, and you have a great spot for enjoying a nice meal after taking in all the shops and sights in soho!"

  • "We had breakfast early in the morning on a weekday. We loved it!!!!! The atmosphere there is spectacular!! it is like being in Paris! It was one of the best dining experience we had in our one-month visit to NY. The food was incredible, the waitress adorable and friendly, and the place....amazing!!!!!!"

  • "We are always looking for a place that has great food and ambience. Balthazar met all of our needs and expectations when we visited. It was crowded when we arrived but were seated quickly, had reservations, didn't even notice the crowd after a few minutes. We took in the whole charm and vintage vibe that it has going on, great/friendly servers with awesome disposition to help with any decisions or doubts you might have. We spent 3 hrs, talking, reading the newspaper, enjoying and savoring each minute. The food was amazing, we had the Champagne pick-me up, scones, chocolate bread, Eggs Norwegian, the Balthazar Bar Steak and Profiteroles. No rush, no fuss, we could've spent the entire day there, which is what we're planning to do next time."

  • "I was worried that Balthazaar might just be resting on their laurels, but we really enjoyed the meal we had here. Service was top notch, and even though it is expensive, they deliver on the promise of great food in a cool atmosphere."

  • "My daughter and I wanted a special place to celebrate her husband's birthday. We both love Balthazar and had other festive occasions creating tasty memories for us there. We couldn't have chosen better."

  • "I was told to go to Balthazar by a friend who told me it was a fabulous restaurant. She was so right. The food was wonderful, service fantastic and ambience welcoming and friendly. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting New York x"

  • "Half of our food was amazing and half wasn't. The risotto crunched and the $40+ steak was tough. Lots of chewing. The bread was amazing and the soup (special) rivaled the best I have ever had."

  • "The food was good, but between how loud it was and the prices I don't know that I'll be back for Brunch."

  • "Balthazar gave us a peek of Paris with New York best quality service and superb food. My steak was perfect followed by a creme brulee flown in from Heaven. A very capable sommelier provided advice based on reality rather than on some fancy pants nonsense. Extra ticks for allowing us to bring two extra guests at late notice and for not charging us for the replacement when one of the party knocked over a just sipped cocktail."

  • "Despite all the hype, Balthalzar was a let down. We went for lunch and it was super noisy, the tables were so close together and there wasn't enough space period. The 'French' food was also disappointing. We had an onion soup which I thought was okay. The Steak Frites were so so -steak overcooked and french fries nothing to write home about. The salad, the duck confit and the pavlova were just okay - nothing fancy. I would not recommend to friends and I would not return either. There are so many good restaurants in New York that there is no need to 'squeeze' into Balthalzar for a meal."

  • "Tables had to be moved and replaced in order to get myself into the available seat, effectively trapping me in there"
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "The food is always amazing. For breakfast/brunch, the bread basket is a MUST. EVERYTHING I have tried on the menu is equally outstanding."
