Diner Reviews
  • "We decided to take our dad to The Annex for is birthday. He's not a big fan of eating out, but this time it was worth. He really enjoyed the food and the wine. He had a squid dish and he liked a lot. My brother had a whole trout which they deboned in front of us and that was pretty cool. Everybody had a great time."

  • "We ate at the Ballard Annex Oyster House for the first time. The food was delicious and so very tasty. We enjoyed every bite and look forward to returning soon. The three of us ordered an array of food, calamari, oysters, clam linguini, a whole trout, and yummy salads."

  • "Energetic Noise Level? PAINFUL IS MORE LIKE IT! With a full house, they desperately NEED NOISE ABATEMENT. Great Food although the Clam Chowder was off. Normally very good, but not that day. Great Service and Friendly People"

  • "Despite the lobster roll being priced by the pound, it was worth it! On this visit, it was $29/lb. They will advise you that the lobsters are 1 1/2 to 2 lbs before you order so you can make your decision whether to order or not. To us, it was worth every bite! The oyster selection is good also and they were very fresh, sweet, briny, creamy! Yum!"

  • "If you are looking for crab, oysters, or lobster, this is a good choice. Nice bar, fun atmosphere. We liked the oyster shooters with or without vodka. We tried the trout, which was excellent. The restaurant is a little limited on side dishes to round out a meal, but if you just want to indulge in oysters and crab, you'll be happy."

  • "We had a friend come visit us from Vancouver, BC who had a hankering for oysters. We wanted something around the Fremont or Ballard area and came across Ballard Annex Oyster House. This place was amazing. The service was impeccable and the food was to die for. We'll definitely be coming back for more!"

  • "Love the annex and I'm becoming a regular. Have brought many friends to try it and talk it up all the time. Unfortunately on Monday the servers left us wanting some service!! The waitstaff up til then had been friendly, energetic, helpful and terrific. Monday they were snarky, unhappy and served with an attitude instead of enthusiasm. The hostess who seemed in charge redeemed the situation whenever she came around but the other 3 servers were robotrons who acted as if the 5 tables in the restaurant were a burden as opposed to a pleasure. With 50 restaurant options on the block, these ladies better buck up if they think we are going to choose their attitudes over smiles and pleasantness at Bastille!"

  • "We enjoyed our meal recently, although it wasn't notable enough to make sure we go back. But I must give credit where it's due! The clam chowder was delicious; creamy, flavorful, with a spank of spices. We prefer more ingredients overall (more clams, more veggies, etc) but it was still tasty. The french fries - outstanding! The fish (as in the fish & chips) was very enjoyable too. My hubby had oysters and said they were good (I can't say, don't eat them). My adult kids had the crab & kale salad which lacked in flavor for them and the portion was too small. They expected a big salad of fresh kale and it was cooked, but they obviously didn't read the menu closely enough? Molten lava cake was just "ok.""

  • "The willy's Bucket is a must have when you go to this restaurant. The best part is the broth which needs lots of extra bread to sop it up. Unfortunately the restaurant is VERY skimpy on bread and when we asked for extra bread - then asked again - then asked one more time - the broth was cold and the love affair was over. No, the restaurant was not busy - there were MAYBE two other tables - no excuses! As for the other dishes - I couldn't find any crab in the crab gnocchi and the special white King Salmon was over-cooked - REALLY? - if you can't cook finfish then don't offer it on the menu!"

  • "second visit , last time was better, app's were better than main course , fish and chips was too greasy and the sides with the salmon were over done"

  • "Great place in an old historic building in the heart of downtown Ballard. Good selections of food. Although known for their seafood, I had the steak and fries which was excellent. Lobster bisque was very good as was the calamari. Its a big open room so it can get a bit noisy. A big group came in while we were there and the staff was great at seating them altogther. The oyster bar looks great and we'll try that next time. Staff were very friendly and professional."

  • "We arrived for our reservation on time. As the host as getting ready to seat us, he looked at the three if us and said, "oh, there are 3 of you? The res says it's for 2." I showed him my confirmation where it did in fact say 3 people. He went and spoke with his manager, came back and said it will be a bit of a wait, that they were sorry. So we went to the bar, had a drink and app, and 45 minutes later got seated. They should have (but didn't) buy us a round of drinks, or an app, or desert. Mix-ups happen, but they need to realize that what good customer service. We found the service overall very disappointing. "

  • "Delicious oyster Rockefeller, halibut fish n chips, and when I asked how they prepare kalamari saute ..she said butter ..we use butter here ! I asked for olive oil and they made it happen. Fun server , need normal wine glasses but all in all great date night ! "

  • "If you are having a bad day and want a place where you can get great seafood, predominantly oysters, you are in the right hands with Ballard Annex Oyster House. Oysters are known as aphrodisiacs for a reason and it will make you so happy that you decided to drop by for dinner. If you're not an oyster fan, their fish and chips are delicious. The french fries are crispy and fantastic! Salty and fabulous dipped in Willy's Bucket broth if you order it. Nobody does baby octopuses like they do and quite frankly, I am a big fan. You won't be disappointed if you stick to nature's best, naked oysters. "

  • "We had dinner here with another couple and had a great night. Our waiter, Ramone, was lots of fun and very helpful. We sampled the raw oysters and enjoyed 8 different kinds - all very fresh. The french fries are fabulous! For our mains we had trout (which was very tasty and perfectly cooked), the clam linguini (nice) and the steamed lobster. We finished off with the molten lava cake which was very, very good. The vibe was good here - noisy, but not too loud. The tables were not squeezed together. Nice atmosphere, decor and ambience. Fun, fresh and good food. Would definitely come back and have recommended."

  • "Host, wait staff and crew were all wonderfully personable. This made up for the service which was a tad slow and some kitchen snafus. The food was quite good although the selection was not as broad as we might have assumed. The noise level was a bit high for our taste, but that's the price that old fuddy-duddies like us pay to mingle with the kids (which is great fun)"

  • "Great location, good atmosphere and friendly staff. Menu is pretty basic and has had little change for quite a while - could use some more imagination. I like that the door stays open and is quite airy, but gets cold."

  • "Great location, great service, cool scenery, ok food... he appetizers were great, the meal was ok. The food was by no means bad, but it wasn't particularly impressive either. For those who don't like anything original and creative it's great. It was simple and somewhat plane. The appetizers were delicious, lobster ravioli left me wanting more, wasn't impressed with the sauce, the seared salmon was well done instead of medium, and the desert was alright. Not bad creme Burlie and or lemon tart but generic, I've had better. "

  • "I can't say much good about this place, certainly not bad but pricey and mediocre. In a neighborhood full of great food"

  • "I had the linguini with clams~ it was divine. Our server was informative, helpful and I feel, an asset to the Ballard Annex. Our party of nine had a great time!"

  • "The Oysters were great, the fish and chips were okay and greasy. They left the door open which made it cold inside and the music they played was loud and full of beat which is not great when you actually want to enjoy the food. Also the acoustics are hard, lots of cement and so sound and hearing is problem, do go if you actually want to talk to someone. Great wait person and the oysters were wonderful!"

  • "The happy hour oysters were perfect and the fish and chips we had were very tasty and done to perfection. The Caesar salad was excellent - I like the white anchovies. Clean well maintained with appropriately attentive wait staff and affordably priced. I will definitely come again!!"

  • "While the service was fine, and the restaurant itself was very cute, half of our table really didn't enjoy our food. The oysters were good, but way too expensive. My lobster ravioli was almost inedible. The sauce was incredibly sweet, and it completely overpowered the dish. Their crab roll was pretty bland, and by far, the best part about that meal was the fries. The fish and chips were the best meal at the table. The trout was good, but the waitress told us that came with fries as well, but it didn't. When asked if my friend wanted fries also, she said yes. It took about 20 minutes to get the fries, at which point we just cancelled the order. I wouldn't say this was a terrible experience, but with very hit or miss food, I wouldn't go back"

  • "Slow service on the night we were there, but nice seafood options. The trout was great, as was the oysters Rockefeller and the Muscles Pistiou."

  • "Appetizers Caesar Salad with Anchovies=Anchovies were not too salty and there was a perfect amount of dressing to lettuce ratio. The three pieces of garlic and herb bread that came with it was tasty, but too hard...maybe even stale. Mussels Pistou=Great garlic and cheese flavor. Main Fish & Chips=Batter on the fish was crispy & chewy. The pickle/dill sauce was much more refreshing than tartar sauce. Fries were salted and crunchy on the outside yet tender on the inside. Fried Oyster Roll=Okay. Deep fried oysters on a roll with cabbage slaw. Simple. Dessert Apple crumble=Okay. The top could have used more time under the broiler. Creme Brulee=The creme was not custard at all...more like a sauce. The brulee part came out well."

  • "The oyster are great and fresh! That's the best thing on my list. I went for Dine around Seattle lunch. The "Mussels Pistou" is way too dry and overcook. The "Clam Linguini" are good; the clam is fresh and sweet but linguini just ok (does not feel like their strong suite). "Vanilla Bean Crème Brulee" for dessert; just ok. Overall, the only I would want to order again is the oyster. The service is a bit slow; I have to asked for check and water multiple times to get it."
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "Service and food were uninspired. Not good. Way too much cheese on the mussels pistou and the oysters rockerfeller. Sockeye overcooked. Mashed potatoes not as good as grandmas. Desserts no even so-so. The 5 dollar glass of wine was the only enjoyable part of the meal. We won't be returning."

  • "Went to the Annex for dinner before going in the backroom for PaintNite. Nice atmosphere. Had my first fried oyster roll. Very good. We would come back. We had not been to Ballard in years and parking even on a Wednesday night was a bit frustrating."

  • "We went for date night because of Dine-In Seattle and were pleasantly surprised. We hadn't been to the Annex because of the meal pricing and so decided this would be our opportunity to get our money's worth. We didn't get to have any of the oysters but the food we did have was delicious. Everything from chowder to dessert was tasty and all that Dine-in it seemed worth it. The service was great too and we had a very attentive server. However we were there on a Monday night which might not be indicative of service quality on busier days of the week. Overall we left happy with the experience, however we probably will not be going back unless we can get another deal."

  • "This place was OK for the 3 courses for $30 dine around Seattle deal, but I wouldn't come back and pay full price. Food was all good, but not amazing, and for the prices, I would definitely dine elsewhere. Service was very poorly timed. We ordered drinks, then waited a little and ordered dinner. Yet, when the appetizers came, our drinks still had not arrived, and she rushed over to get them (she said the bar was backed up, but the restaurant was mostly empty). Then, we were still nibbling at the remains of our appetizers when the main course showed up. Luckily we hadn't ordered dessert at the beginning, so that left us a little time between mains and dessert."

  • "Went for dinner but think the real gem is happy hour. Oysters were good, wine prices were reasonable. Food was underwhelming and a little pricey for the quality (outside of the Dine Around Seattle menu). I'll be back for happy hour or maybe a weekend lunch."

  • "Waitress was very sweet but slow, the bartender was not a pleasant man and my bf 5 year old was with us. I felt as if he didn't seat us due to fact that we had a child with us. They never confirmed my open table reservation, it was very expensive and fur no good reason. I was not impressed at all.. I didn't have the oysters they looked good but I won't be going back there, there are many more better deserving restaurants to spend my hard earned cash"

  • "Had the dine about seattle lunch and the food was awesome, especially the mussels pistou...to die for. Service was excellent. Had the fish and chips, was so good but the fries were way too salty..I had to drive a gallon of water all afternoon,"

  • "the oysters were alright, and the maryland crab cake was outstanding. other than that, the food was pretty poor. the linguini with clams had way too much garlic, and the clams weren't particularly tasty. the lobster ravioli had very little lobster in it, and the portion was tiny. i wouldn't go back."
