  • "Great food recommendations from our server! Lunch was great and I've gone for Breakfast and it was outstanding :)"

  • "We were booked at portofino hotel. The service was not good. We requested for room cleaning which was not done. The airconditioning was not working well. Baleen was not as expected that you see online. It looked so classy but it was quite disappointing when we were there."

  • "It was a good brunch but not the best. Great view of the Marina. Would've liked a few more choices, recommendations or specials. "

  • "Nice menu with great apps and small plates. Lobster slider was great. Wish I had ordered several. Beautiful setting and great service. "

  • "We brought our granddaughter to Baleen's to celebrate her 12th birthday. Everything was perfect. We were given a choice table at the windows overlooking the marina. The server was lovely, attentive (especially to our granddaughter)and brought a complimentary desert at the end of our meal. The food was great. Everything was perfect. "

  • "They say it's brunch on Sundays but it's just a regular breakfast meal! We could have gone to a real brunch place."
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "We loved the view of the harbor from the beautifully-appointed dining room. The massive fireplace was lit providing a warm atmosphere; service was impeccable. The coffee, though strong, was delicious. We ordered pork sliders, lobster mac & cheese, burgers and a cheese appetizer plate. All were very good. We were not hurried so the experience was excellent."

  • "It is a very pretty space. Food was very good, but perhaps a bit on the pricey side. Drinks were very good. Entrees came out a bit quicker than expected, but perhaps we should have requested it to be paced a little slower. It is a nice restaurant, but it does seem that you are paying for location, as it sits on the marina. We were there for dinner, but it would be nice to try for brunch. "

  • "The food was excellent with a nice view of the marina. I've been wanting to try it but with so many other choices I never got to. I had several other places in mind for this evening but they didn't have a table available for the time I wanted so I decided to try this place. I'm glad I did. The food is flavorful and there's a variety of choices to fit everyone. I would definitely go back again! "

  • "We had a great Easter Brunch dining experience. The only thing that baffled us was that they wanted to seat us away from the scenic windows when there were tables available. According to our hostess, there were no tables available when the restaurant was half empty. We had to insist to be seated by the windows to get it."

  • "not a formal dining experience. Dress code is casual, boat wear. Food was very good, no complaints there. View of the boat docks was very nice. They could expand on their menu a bit more is my only suggestion."

  • "This was the second year in a row we had our anniversary dinner here. We have made a habit of ordering 5 - 8 different tapas and salads and have a wonderful experience doing so. This year, the lobster slider was my favorite!"

  • "Usually I'm not a fan of hotel dining, but more and more hotels are leasing their prime property to good chefs, This is the case at the Portofino Hotel in Redondo Beach with BALEENkitchen: a lovely spot in the Redondo Marina. We took relatives from Napa, who work in the wine industry, to brunch. Coffee came in a carafe for the table, so we didn't have to wait for refills. Service was prompt and professionally friendly. We all tried the Pulled Pork Benedicts, a traditional Eggs Benedict, and the asparagus omelette. Our plates were clean at the end of the meal. Enhancing our morning were the bottomless Bloody Mary's from the make-your-own Bloody Mary bar. A fun treat and we took advantage! Parking easy. We would return to BALEENkitchen."

  • "The service and food were outstanding, our waiter was very knowledgeable about the entree choices and preparation. We had 3 different menu entree choices and all were great. I definitely will return and recommend to friends."

  • "Well run restaurant with a fabulous manager. We had a wonderful time. We did not expect a hotel based restaurant to be so good. Fantastic view was an added bonus."

  • "There are plenty of items on the menu to choose from. I am a foodie and I was hoping for a little more gourmet for the price."

  • "Good food, good service, but noisy. It was difficult to conduct a conversation, even with the person seated next to me."

  • "Overall Very Good. Excellent scenic view. Highly recommended."

  • "considering its a "hotel" restaurant. We came here right before a Halloween party so we were in costume. When we walked in it was like the proverbial scratch on the record player, but the staff were good sports. Not sure I would go out of my way to eat here again. But the location is beautiful and overall the food was very good."
    Dined on 10/25/2013
  • "Excellent selection of Tapas plates and appetizers such as lobster sliders, smoked trout. Entrees were equally well prepared and presented. Pork chop was done perfectly with an exquisite balance of flavors."
    Dined on 2/16/2014
  • "This is a great location and the menu is varied. The food execution is not always consistent, but we like the place and go back. The bar scene is busy depending on sports schedule."

  • "Baleen seemed to have good reviews, so we tried it on a recent trip. Our food was mediocre at best. The salad wasn't very fresh, the meats had been over-marinated and over-seasoned. Being by the sea doesn't mean you have to add salt to everything. The view of the marina is scenic, but two out of four chairs we sat in were broken and saggy. Our server and the staff were polite and attentive without getting in the way. They need to improve their food quality."

  • "My wife and I went to Baleens for a nice Valentines prixe fixe dinner. They were offering a 6 course Prix fixe menu with optional wine pairing. The plan looked good and we ordered the dinner with the wine pairing, but the execution was terrible. We sat down a little after 7 and did not receive our dessert (the 6th course) until after 10. We waited a minimum of 20 minutes between courses and the waiter kept apologizing for the delays saying the kitchen could up keep up with the orders. Some of the courses were excellent: the ravioli, amuse bouche, the duck and the dessert. The sea bass was very bland and the beef tenderloins were lacking any significant flavor. I doubt I would eat here again even if they offered it for free."

  • "The food and service were good. It is too loud to be considered romantic. As far as price goes, you can certainly find better for the price."

  • "Access requires driving through guard kiosk, as the restaurant is adjacent to a hotel. As such, hadn't realized it was there. Glad we found it."

  • "We decided to dine here for the last night of DineLA. We've eaten here three times before this, and it never disappoints. Our server was fantastic. The food amazing. Wonderful experience."

  • "TOOK ADVANTAGE OF FIXED PRICED MENU AND WINE PAIRING . SIX DIFFERENT COURSES BETWEEN THE TWO OF US ALL PERFECTLY PAIRED ONLY MINOR COMPLAINT WAS SCANT POUR FOR 2 OF REDS"

  • "The restaurant was freezing. We ended up eating in the bar by the fireplace. The table was small so we only had appetizers. The bar was not that busy and our service was glacially slow. Food was okay, but nothing good enough to put up with terrble service and frostbite."
    Dined on 1/29/2014
  • "We really enjoyed our dinner during Dine LA Restaurant Week. The food and wine were both excellent, and it was one of the few menus we found that did wine pairings to go along with the menu."
    Dined on 1/26/2014
  • "My friends and I wanted to check this place out for DineLA. Wasn't disappointed at all. Great atmosphere and good food. Would recommend for dating couples or even for a rehearsal dinner for a wedding."

  • "Went for dinner. Food was good but not excellent --- was a bit on the salty side. Had the clam chowder, salmon and sorbet. Ambience was beautiful. Sat by the fireplace. Overlooked the marina. Would recommend for drinks and appetizers."

  • "Great for date night and the live music was the cherry on top."
    Dined on 1/18/2014
  • "I've been here a couple of times both for lunch and dinner and have had exceptional service. The "all you can drink" Bloody Mary bar is fun to try on Sundays. Most tables provide a great view of the boats in the harbor, which is nice both day and night and I like how the whole place is elevated above the harbor. The last time I went was on a Thursday night and they had a live band in the bar area."
    Dined on 12/26/2013
  • "They got rid of the buffet, the dinner was not worth $65, and the service was tardy but polite. This was far better when Baleen had the buffet for Christmas. We will make other arrangements next year."

  • "Our family went for Xmas dinner; after being seated, waited 10 min. before server noticed us, even tho we were right in front. He did not bother explaining the menu. It was a set menu incl. choice of soup, salad, entree, and dessert for one price. (We had to ask how it worked) Soup was bland, salad was tasty. Filet steak & lobster were good, but lobster was hard to remove from shell; it came out mangled. The sticky toffee pudding w/ caramel was awesome. Basically, a good meal w/ average server (he gave us the impression he had better things to do than wait on us). Very noisy and hard to hear in there."

  • "We were looking for nice atmosphere on Christmas for our group of 8. We found it here. The location was beautiful, great weather helped. We felt the service was a bit rushed and not everyone was thrilled with the menu choices especially the kids. Our reservation was at 330p so we were looking forward to the Bloody Mary bar as advertised but were told there was not one that day. I then ordered one, it never came but I was still charged $10.00. My brother paid the bill so I didn't see it beforehand but kids were advertised as $22.50 and my kids 8&10 were charged the full $65. They were kind to provide a second serving of steak when my kids didn't like the corn on their ravioli and they did take back my cousins steak that was overdone."
