Entrees came out a bit quicker than expected, but perhaps we should have requested it to be paced a little slower. It is a nice restaurant, but it does seem that you are paying for location, as it sits on the marina. We were there for dinner, but it would be nice to try for brunch. "

I had several other places in mind for this evening but they didn't have a table available for the time I wanted so I decided to try this place. I'm glad I did. The food is flavorful and there's a variety of choices to fit everyone. I would definitely go back again! "

  • "We had a great Easter Brunch dining experience. The only thing that baffled us was that they wanted to seat us away from the scenic windows when there were tables available. According to our hostess, there were no tables available when the restaurant was half empty. We had to insist to be seated by the windows to get it."

  • "Usually I'm not a fan of hotel dining, but more and more hotels are leasing their prime property to good chefs, This is the case at the Portofino Hotel in Redondo Beach with BALEENkitchen: a lovely spot in the Redondo Marina. We took relatives from Napa, who work in the wine industry, to brunch. Coffee came in a carafe for the table, so we didn't have to wait for refills. Service was prompt and professionally friendly. We all tried the Pulled Pork Benedicts, a traditional Eggs Benedict, and the asparagus omelette. Our plates were clean at the end of the meal. Enhancing our morning were the bottomless Bloody Mary's from the make-your-own Bloody Mary bar. A fun treat and we took advantage! Parking easy. We would return to BALEENkitchen."

  • "Baleen seemed to have good reviews, so we tried it on a recent trip. Our food was mediocre at best. The salad wasn't very fresh, the meats had been over-marinated and over-seasoned. Being by the sea doesn't mean you have to add salt to everything. The view of the marina is scenic, but two out of four chairs we sat in were broken and saggy. Our server and the staff were polite and attentive without getting in the way. They need to improve their food quality."

  • "My wife and I went to Baleens for a nice Valentines prixe fixe dinner. They were offering a 6 course Prix fixe menu with optional wine pairing. The plan looked good and we ordered the dinner with the wine pairing, but the execution was terrible. We sat down a little after 7 and did not receive our dessert (the 6th course) until after 10. We waited a minimum of 20 minutes between courses and the waiter kept apologizing for the delays saying the kitchen could up keep up with the orders. Some of the courses were excellent: the ravioli, amuse bouche, the duck and the dessert. The sea bass was very bland and the beef tenderloins were lacking any significant flavor. I doubt I would eat here again even if they offered it for free."

  • "I've been here a couple of times both for lunch and dinner and have had exceptional service. The "all you can drink" Bloody Mary bar is fun to try on Sundays. Most tables provide a great view of the boats in the harbor, which is nice both day and night and I like how the whole place is elevated above the harbor. The last time I went was on a Thursday night and they had a live band in the bar area."

  • "Our family went for Xmas dinner; after being seated, waited 10 min. before server noticed us, even tho we were right in front. He did not bother explaining the menu. It was a set menu incl. choice of soup, salad, entree, and dessert for one price. (We had to ask how it worked) Soup was bland, salad was tasty. Filet steak & lobster were good, but lobster was hard to remove from shell; it came out mangled. The sticky toffee pudding w/ caramel was awesome. Basically, a good meal w/ average server (he gave us the impression he had better things to do than wait on us). Very noisy and hard to hear in there."

  • "We were looking for nice atmosphere on Christmas for our group of 8. We found it here. The location was beautiful, great weather helped. We felt the service was a bit rushed and not everyone was thrilled with the menu choices especially the kids. Our reservation was at 330p so we were looking forward to the Bloody Mary bar as advertised but were told there was not one that day. I then ordered one, it never came but I was still charged $10.00. My brother paid the bill so I didn't see it beforehand but kids were advertised as $22.50 and my kids 8&10 were charged the full $65. They were kind to provide a second serving of steak when my kids didn't like the corn on their ravioli and they did take back my cousins steak that was overdone."
