A word from Baldpate Inn
A classic mountain getaway, Baldpate is located seven miles south of Estes Park, Colorado on the designated scenic “Peak to Peak Highway” Colorado Route 7. Our setting is nestled in the pine forest on the side of Twin Sisters Mountain, next to the Lily Lake area of Rocky Mountain National Park.
For more than 20 years the Baldpate's dining room was rated as a 5-star Duncan Hines restaurant. Today our specialty buffet continues to bring highest honors as we provide an unparalleled dining experience. Although we do not offer traditional entrees, we are loved for our fresh salad buffet, homemade soups, breads, and pies. Not only locals, but travelers especially delight in the refreshing change and value that our soup and salad menu offers. Seating in our sunporch dining room offers the bonus of an unequaled treetop view of the mountain valley.
Our dining room is open continuously for both lunch and dinner, 11:30 AM through 8:00 PM

It's a soup and salad buffet w/ optional wine. And if you don't get there early, they don't replenish what was originally put out. Great atmosphere though, especially the sloping floor.

I've been coming to Estes Park for vacation annually since 1996, and I don't think I've ever missed a visit to the Baldpate Inn for dinner. There's no menu; the fare is always the same: two varieties of homemade soup, a salad bar, homemade breads and muffins, and two or three types of cheese. They also serve homemade pie (extra charge). The past two years, I was disappointed with the soups, but this year's cowboy buffalo stew was something I could live on 365 days a year! Yummmmy! The potato soup was just OK. Nothing else changes from year to year. I wouldn't say that with the prices they charge (with tip, $21 for one person including the tip) it's a great bargain, but this is Estes Park.

We enjoyed the salad bar and soups plus the good cornbread and muffins. This is an amazing historic place to see and the views from the parking lot are amazing but we were not by a window so I am not sure what the view is from the tables.

We were seated at a table by the windows, the hummingbirds were a couple of feet away at their feeders. I have never seen so many hummingbirds at once. Beer was served with a chilled glass, water and ice tea were kept refilled as we had a leisurely lunch with a view of the Estes valley and lake Estes. They do a soup and salad buffet that is all you can eat, The soups are excellent, homemade muffins and breads, too many to try them all. We did split a slice of rhubarb pie to see if it was as good as Grandma's, and it was, even to the flaky crust. Then we looked around at the history, pictures, and keys. You need two or three hours to do lunch and really see this place. Bring your parents and grandparents, they will love it!

One of our favorite spots in northern Colorado. The homemade soups are just great; salad bar features cold, crisp items; homemade breads and muffins are tasty; and their pies are absolutely the best ever! And then there is the view.....nestled on a hill in the forest of pine and aspen with beautiful views of the Estes Park valley and the peaks beyond to be enjoyed while sitting in a log lodge which is on the National Historic Register. Can't beat all that!

My husband, son and I celebrated my birthday with lunch at the rustic Baldpate Inn this past Sat. We were seated at a corner table on the enclosed porch by a window where we enjoyed Estes Valley views and continuous hummingbird sightings at the feeders placed by the windows. The fresh, cold salad bar was a meal in itself, but was also accompanied by a cheese tray, various selections of homemade breads, and a selection of soups. My husband and I had a hearty chili with freshly baked warm bread. Our son had vegetable soup with cornbread. The wait staff was courteous and did not rush us. Following lunch, we enjoyed perusing the remarkable key collection and the history of the soon-to-be 100-year old inn.

The soups were terrible, unfit for consumption. The broccoli cheese soup was burnt. The white bean soup had beans that were crunchy they were so undercooked. The broth was watery and without flavor. Couldn't hardly find the chicken in it. The salad bar was okay...nothing spectacular...certainly not worth the $15.00 price tag.

We always enjoy going to the Baldpate Inn. There were six of us. One couple from Loveland and two couples live in Estes Park. We love to take our visitors there. The soups are always very good, salad bar has a good variety, and the cornbread is to die for! I bought their recipe book a few years ago and bake the cornbread often. I've shared the cornbread recipe with many friends and they all rave about it.

The soups (chili and a vegetarian choice) were good, as usual. The salads and bread were pretty limited that night. They were out of pie (which in the past has been home-made and delicious) so there was no pie-ala-mode, which was a disappointment. We will try again in the future because this particular experience was marred by a shortage of salads, desserts, breads and dessert this particular evening. In the past we have had some very nice suppers at the Baldpate, and we have no doubt we will again.

The Baldpate Inn was the highlight of our vacation! The dinner salad bar was served in an old fashioned bathtub on ice! The homemade blueberry lemon muffins & cherry pie ala-mode were simply heaven! The dinning room has a tree house feeling view over- looking the Rocky Mountain National Park with humming bird feeders hung along the windows so you can watch the birds while you dine. Coffee was brewed at 6 am so I could sit on the Baldpate porch and watch the humming birds early. Our three course breakfast was sweet rasberries, homemade poppy muffins, fluffy asiago quiche and over-sized homemade 5" cinnamon rolls. Lois, the owner, came by our table and told us how her staff prepares the daily nectar for the pretty humming birds.

I have visited the Baldpate Inn before; it was my friend's first time. I had the pumpkin curry-very tasty; my friend said the chili was not bland. The salad bar for a 1-PM reservation, my opinion, had a good variety of salad accommodates. I had the yummy blue cheese dressing; my friend selected honey Dijon and was not thrilled. Here is part of my write up on my FB profile along with the pics: very relaxed ambience, the weather held out with cool breezes. I really did enjoy my pumpkin curry soup, salad, muffins--especially the corn bread, and the moscato d'asti was superb. I will be back for the soup & salad; my friend would return for pie & coffee--which neither of us had.

Nostalgic, charming, and a great hideaway! Soups, salads, and desserts are offered as advertised. While you eat you're able to enjoy dozens of hummingbirds feeding on the nectar just on the other side of the glass...or go outside if you prefer to watch. Cowboy Buffalo Stew a bit spicy for my taste...but still good. Staff was very cordial and helpful. Worth the drive out of Estes Park to find.

We were disappointed to find that the Baldpate Inn only had a salad and soup bar. There was no menu. In addition to the salad and soup they did offer corn muffins, a peanut butter muffin, and a nice home made bread as well as some cheese. The soups offered that day were a corn chowder and chili. The pot containing the corn chowder apparently was not working because the soup not hot. I had to ask the waiter to heat it up. He later came by and reported that the pot had been fixed so I assume this was not a regular occurance. The soup was OK but I did not find it anything special. The bread was delicious. I am not a salad eater so I can't comment on that. I would not go back.

We have stayed at the Bald Pate years ago and enjoyed our stay. I was looking forward to a wonderful dinner with my wife and was pleasantly surprised the Bald Pate was on Open Table. We arrived and were promptly seated and I requested menus. The server was very friendly but informed us it was a buffet only. We walked over to the buffet to see what was on it and a kitchen staff member told us the two soups for Saturday evening were vegetable beef and mushroom. I looked at my wife and told her I was sorry for not checking their menu online. We thanked the server, walked out to our car and got onto Open Table and made reservations at The View Restaurant.

The soup was very disappointing. It seemed to have been watered down. The bread is always wonderful and the salad bar is predictable.
