  • "Went there on a Friday night, the ambiance was nice, the hostess was very nice and even sat before 1 of my friends arrived, Which was nice. Service was just OK, a bit slow. Food was good but not outstanding, we mainly had fish, it was tasty but not the best one I've had. I think this is a consistent place were you'll ahve a nice dinner, but will not be mind-blowing."

  • "So you walk around NoLiTa and the scene is ultra competitive. If you happen by this place it appears to be nondescript and ultra casual. Do not let the relaxed look fool you, the food is EXCELLENT. Top notch and good exactly to request. The service is friendly, informative, and even for difficult people they will adjust to their requirements without making you feel out of turn. Extremely accommodating. You can't go wrong with any of the meals, but I would recommend the Hummus and the skirt steak (also tried the Market Salad, the Eggplant dish, and the Arctic Char)."

  • "Had a wonderful meal at this restaurant - excellent food. One detail much appreciated was the attention given to my son who is severely gluten intolerant. The staff went out of their way to accommodate his dietary restrictions. High noise level for those who dislike this, but nothing could distract from the food and friendly service."

  • "We eat here at least every couple of months - although with the opening of their sister restaurant, Bar Bolonat (also wonderful), we hadn't been here in a while. IT'S BETTER THAN EVER. Three of us shared the fried olives, the stupendous cauliflower appetizer, the middle eastern version of empanadas (sambusek), the grilled octopus and the bruschetta. All were up to the usual standard - fresh, flavorful and beautifully presented. Then two of us had the red snapper special, while the other had "chicken under a brick". They've slightly revised this dish, with a new salad of corn and favs beans. Scrumptious. And the service here is friendly and professional. Special kudos to our server, Nenad, who made the evening even more special. GO!!!!"

  • "The service was rushed, even when we told the server we needed more time and wanted to have a cocktail before we ordered. We did overhear the table next to us mention the same thing. The food was excellent and the rest of the team were friendly and attentive. Just beware, you might have to fend off the servers to order-pretty much as soon as you sit down."

  • "Well executed and well flavored dishes. Attentive and very helpful staff. Tight space with small tables - folks st the next table were seating too close. Small portions for the prices charged. I would go back again."

  • "This is what I call Real Food made the best possible way! The Hummus is Ethereal, the best I have ever had! Bravo!"

  • "We had dinner last week at Balaboosta, introducing old friends to what has become one of our favorite restaurants in the city. We could have made a meal out of the Crispy Cauliflower and the Hummus, but were glad we didn't stop there. The Spice Rubbed Skirt Steak was perfectly done to everyone's liking, it was juicy, tender and the magical spices made every bite delicious. Make reservations as this is a popular dining spot. We'll be back soon."

  • "Went here with a friend and there was so much on the menu we wanted to try that we ended up splitting small plates and apps. There was not one thing that we tried that wasn't delicious. Got the beat pizza - it was a special but if you have the opportunity to try it I highly recommend it."

  • "Great food, very flavorful. The crispy cauliflower and tuna ceviche special was excellent. The place was completely full by 8:30 which is always a good sign. Definitely would go back."

  • "Exceptional food in a stylish but warm and inviting environment. Standouts were octopus, skirt steak and Bronzino, but everything was innovative, well-prepared and beautifully presented. Love the family photos scattered about. Highly recommended if you want to eat delicious food in a comfortable setting."

  • "One shared appetizer, 3 entrees, one shared desert, water with lemon to drink. $95 including tax & tip for lunch. Food very tasty and unusual. Service a bit slow. Overpriced. Would not go back unless someone else was picking up the tab."

  • "Met two friends for brunch on Sat. We were warmly greeted and seated immediately. Our waitress was gracious and patiently explained several different menu items. Drinks arrived promptly as did our entrees. Our brunch selections were delicious. We were able to chat and linger without pressure to leave. Looking forward to returning."

  • "Unique restaurant in Soho with terrific atmosphere. The crispy cauliflower was the best I ever had. We had numerous small plates in order to sample a variety. Each was excellent. There are many more dishes on their in house menu as well as specials. The menu on the web is only a partial list. I don't think you can go wrong with anything you order. We also had pomegranate honey tea and sangria at the table, both of which were outstanding. Best advice I can give you is GO."

  • "Seating was too close. Tables were on top of each other. Food was good with many interesting choices. Service was polite and and gracious. The lack of privacy at our table detracted from the experience."

  • "each time we are delighted with the food and the waitstaff, esp. Nanon (?sp) who has helped us make great choices like the special bruschetta, the Yemenite pizza. But should have taken his recommendation for the whole fish Look forward to returning"

  • "We were early for our Saturday night reservation, but were greeted warmly and seated right away, before the evening rush began. Our waiter was charming and attentive and made the occasion special for my mom, on her first trip to NYC in many years. Crispy cauliflower -- signature dish -- was as good as always. Service was perfect, food as good to eat as it is lovely to look at. A wonderful meal at my favorite village restaurant, and a memory made for my mother."

  • "I recommended that we try this restaurant on our first night in NYC. The food was amazing - we wanted one of almost everything! The flavours are fresh and unique, and the presentation is a feast for the eyes. All of us loved the experience, so much so, that I bought the cookbook as a gift for my 2 girlfriends who I dined with. I will surely recommend this spot to others coming to NYC. I will also hope to see a Balaboosta location in LA sometime soon, as I visit there fairly often. This Canadian gal loves Balaboosta!"

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed everything about Balaboosta. The ambiance is lovely, staff attentive and really delicious food. We decided to get lots of small plates so we could experience a little of a lot. Stand outs were the shrimp wrapped in phyllo and the ceviche. Crunchy delicious shrimp with a tobiko sauce that had wasabi in it. I could have eaten a plate of them. Daily ceviche was salmon with a yogurt/dill/cucumber sauce. Light and refreshing. Really enjoyed this spot and have been recommending ever since."

  • "Am a fan of Taim so have been wanting to try this place for a while. Overall the food and the space were excellent, however they messed up our order on three separate occasions which was a little frustrating (there was only two of us, so shouldn't have been that hard). Would still go back though."

  • "Had dinner here Friday night, been for brunch before but first time for dinner. Tables are VERY close to other tables, feels like we're sitting in on our neighbors dinner. Food was good, but nothing special. Wuite pricey. Prob won't go back again anytime soon"

  • "Top of our list on this recent trip to NY. We ate at some excellent restaurants, but this was our favorite. Creative and delicious preparations of fresh and local veggies, meat, pasta and fish. Great and unusual seasonings. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly, with out being phony. "

  • "Outstanding, start to finish. The room was perfectly lit, open yet intimate, and lively without impeding conversation. Do not skip the crispy cauliflower small plate--we could have eaten that (and the fried olives with labne) all night long. Chicken "under a brick" was moist and oh-so-tasty. Calamari appetizer special and sea bass were equally well prepared. The meal ended with a divine piece of knafeh, which transported me back to a years-ago snack in Nazareth. Service was as outstanding as the meal--the staff were attentive, friendly, and knowledgable. Not to be missed!"

  • "The food was great but we were disappointed that there weren't more Persian recipes on the menu. The Israeli couscous, however, was fantastic."

  • "Been meaning to try it for a while - was all I expected and more. Good for a romantic night, and most likely good for a group of friends. Very friendly service -- my date was a little late and they were really great about it too! And the food was delicious!"
    Dined on 5/17/2014
  • "The food is tasty but the overall experience was somewhat disappointing. We felt that the focus was not necessarily on food that tasted really good but rather on dishes that were composed with a range of textures, flavors and colors. This goal somehow took priority over flavor. You can tell that the kitchen staff worked hard on presentation. Dishes were plated beautifully. The flavors, however, took a backseat."
