We have been at the restaurant before and for whatever reason the food just wasn't as terrific this time. Maybe an off night. The restaurant itself is charming - and we had a great table. Some of the table are simply too cheek by jowl for me, but if you're super slim, no problem! But more to the point, the last two times we ate at Balaboosta the food was just wonderful - very flavorful, inventive without being horribly ornate or precious, and solid on teh traditional dishes. This time it was just ... OK.

Great food, fantastic service and memorable wine. Octopus was very tender and delicious. Cauliflower appetizer and kale salad were outstanding. Dessert was so unique and absolutely scrumptious. Very friendly and polite host/waiters. You will remember everything you eat here and you will keep wanting to go back to this place. Laurent Esposito is a warm and welcoming host too. It was an accidental find for us last year and we go to this restaurant every time we visit NYC now. Highly recommend it. It is one of our favourite restaurants in NYC.
