  • "This place is amazing and is by far the best food we have had in Charlotte! The Waygu steak was out of this world, and the salads, ribs, and sushi are all exquisite. It is expensive, but well worth the money...Definitely worth trying sometime for a special occassion. We will be back again soon!"

  • "I had a friend in town from DC so I wanted to take him somewhere newer to Charlotte. The experience was horrible. Drinks took 40 min to get, dishes came out an hour between, the waiter forgot to give my card back, the dumplings were obviously pan fried WAY too quickly since they had been forgotten so were chewy and hard.. The manager kept coming over and apologizing. He ended up giving us this HUGE dessert to say Sorry, but just overall was not impressed. This was the first time I had experienced Baku and was really hoping for a great meal. Unfortunately, this was a REALLY bad first impression. The food was just ok, not worth $30 per 5oz of meat. The only redeeming quality was the buildout and decor... all repurposed wood. Very nice."

  • "My husband and I went here on Tuesday for our 8th wedding anniversary and it was hands-down the best meal I have ever eaten in Charlotte, NC, and it rivals meals I have had in New York, Chicago, LA or anywhere for that matter. Every bite of every plate was exceptional. We will definitely be back for our next special occasion! It's a little pricey to make it a regular restaurant to visit, but that will just make it that much more special when we do go there each time!"

  • "The first time my wife and I dined at Baku, about three months ago, we were blown away. The dynamite service, eclectic food and the jalapeno cucumber margarita made our experience notably one of the best in Charlotte. We recommended this palce to everyone. I am not sure why or what happened but we went back this past Saturday night and couldn't have been more disappointed. While our server was friendly enough, our appetizers took 45 minutes to arrive and the margarita tasted like full on sour mix from a bottle. The manager came by and briskly apologized and comped us with a glass of wine. Nice gesture but everything took so long to arrive and in weird time staggers that we left without ordering an entree."

  • "Baku came highly recommended to us and it sure did not disappoint. It was our 9th Anniversary dinner and we wanted a place with great food and a lot of energy; Baku was the perfect pick. The food was unbelievable, and Megan provided an incredible dining experience with her spot-on service. I have a gluten allergy and she was very knowledgable in helping my husband and I make the right choices off of their vast menu. I cannot thank everyone enough for allowing us to have a fun-filled, kid-free and absolutely delicious meal and evening. We will definitely be back AND bring friends!"

  • "Second time at Baku as good as the first. Great way to taste different flavors and concepts by sharing small plates. The one issue we had was a server who while trying to be helpful was more intrusive to the conversation. I attribute it to being new at the game and trying too hard. Baku is a lot of fun with a group but can easily be just as enjoyable for a couple wanting to try something different whether they sit at a table or at the bar. Don't forget to wander upstairs--very cool place."

  • "I had high expectations for this place after hearing all my friends buzz about it. It lived up to those lofty expectations. We had a roll and the cashew ribs were an unexpected favorite. The bar scene is cool enough to hang out at by itself. Be prepared- everyone dresses trendy and the music suits the beautiful crowd."

  • "My wife and I celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary with our first visit to Baku on a Tuesday evening. The food was outstanding, our server (Brian) was terrific, and it was one of the best dining experiences we have had in years. I understand that Baku is very crowded on weekends, so it was probably better for us to dine on a Tuesday night - not completely packed, although still plenty of diners. Would recommend to anybody!"

  • "From arrival to finish our first experience with Baku was simply great. Our server, Mark, was first class. As it was our first time at Baku his help in navigating the menu was highly beneficial..so also for me were his suggestions for saki selections matched to our food choices. Our selections: calamari - light crisp and flavorful; Kumamot oysters touched up with melon - exquisite; skewered artichokes slightly blackened accompanied by a spoon of truffle oil - really great! grouper tempura, which could have been a bit more crispy; pork belly skewers crisp, nicely spiced; lamb chops grilled to a nice pink, but a little too fatty, with a zesty and very tasty blend of sauces and spice;blacken cod cooked to perfection. We' ll be back!"

  • "This is another one of those places that tries to go high on presentation and light on food. I should have known when the waitress suggested that for 2 people we order 6 plates. I ordered beef skewers for $20. 2 skewers for 2 people with a total weight of maybe 2 ounces. The skewers were oversized tooth pics. Maybe 4 inches long. The taste was ok but that's about it. The other plates were also very very small portions. The flavor was lacking and unimpressive. Each of us had 2 glasses of wine (we did not order a bottle as we had different vineyards). The topping on the cake was when we ordered a desert for the birthday girl they charged her for it. I dine at high end restaurants weekly and I was supremely disappointed!! I won't return!"

  • "Tithe concept is interesting, each plate comes out on it's own and are to share! Which was fine with starters and salad. I prefer my meat and vegetables together. We were told veggies would come out then meats, first my husbands fish came, then my fillet, then one veggie and then another! Both the fish and the fillet of beef were great! But I don't like just meat by itself. And the space between dishes was long enough to complete the dish."

  • "I guess this is the hip new place in Charlotte or at least South Park. It's always packed. We could only get an 845 reservation on Saturday which is fine except we weren't seated until after 9. That did not make me happy. Once seated service was great. Food is very good and fun to have many small plates, which is what is intended. Just be careful, the bill adds up quickly when you do it that way."

  • "There is nothing else but to say the food was awful. My ribs came out cold and had to be returned for rewarming. When they did come out I sent them back because there was no meat on them what so ever. The replacement steak which was suppose to medium plus came out medium rare. And by this time I had given up. This is not the first time I have complained about food hanging around and coming out cold. Furthermore serving main courses 5 to 10 minutes apart is a complete disaster. Overall I don't think I will be coming back"

  • "The restaurant is a lovely design. The menu was large, diverse, it clearly explained the dishes & drinks (cocktails & sakes). The chili spiced edamame starter were tasty but very overcooked & soggy. We had the beef tenderloin and asparagus robata, kurobuta pork belly, and yellow tail. All delicious. We were warned by friends not to get the chicken livers. The sake was nicely presented in a carafe on ice in a masu box. Our server didn't seem very confident with the menu, as compared to overhearing other servers at other tables. It also took forever to get each course & while the courses were good they were too small to share amongst three people. We would probably have ordered & tried more dishes, but it became tedious & discouraging."

Great cocktails and wine...our waitress was a little snobby but she cooled down eventually...must go! Make reservations ahead of time!"

  • "Came by somewhat last minute. We usually make a rez, but just happened to be out in the area & hungry. We love Baku, but always find ourselves eating the same (wonderful) things. Our server named Edie ensured we had a more complete knowledge of the menu, and we ended up trying several new items. She checked in on us regularly, even though the place was very full, and had such a positive way about her. We've sent at least two sets of friends there in the past week, and they raved. Back soon!"

  • "The pork dumplings were excellent however their sushi left something to be desired. Considering the lobster roll was $20 and tuna was $17 we were hoping for better results. Vegetable tempura and edamame were good but also pricey for small plates. They do have an amazing sake list! The atmosphere was great and service was really good for a busy night. The experience was great it was just too expensive for the quality."

Two people with a bottle of wine was $240. But servers are very knowledgable and courteous. This is truly a must-try."

  • "We tried Baku for our first time on a Wednesday night. it was busy, but not crowded. The food was deliscious and our server Ariel was EXCELLENT! very knowledgeable about the menu and the sake. we tried everything that she recommended and had a great meal including a shared appetizer (pork belly), a main dish (1 black cod and 1 duck) and a side dish (1 asparagus and 1 roasted artichoke) each and a shared dessert (the chocolate cake w hot chocolate center). We also shared a small bottle of sake. we left satisfied but not stuffed. my only issue was that it was pretty expensive ($170 including 20% gratuity) for a regular date night. We will definitely go back, but probably just add it into our rotation of "special occasion" restaurants"

  • "Baku is so good! This was our third visit and the first time having the Tomahawk ribeye. Absolutely delicious and perfect for sharing with 4 people. The pork dumplings and calamari are also not to be missed. I highly recommend sitting upstairs if possible."

  • "The service was excellent. They were helpful and really added to the nice experience I had. The food tasted really good even though I wish they had a larger sortiment for vegeterians on the menu because it's difficult to follow the idea of sharin food when everyone around you ordered something with meat in it. The only thing I didn't like was the lighting in the restaurant. The light seemed to change alot from a nice comfy intensity to a pretty dark lighting. I don't know why it changed sometimes but that was a minus in my experience."

  • "Read lots of reviews on Baku before making a reservation and they appeared quite mixed, but I decided to roll the dice. Very glad I did. We went into it with the right expectations: 1. portions will be small and several items will need to be ordered to leave satisfied. 2. It was going to be an expensive night. My wife and I shared 8 menu items. Highlights were the salmon belly nigiri and the wagyu beef tartare. Our server was excellent and guided us through the experience to our satisfaction. We ordered the rock shrimp to start, then a few things here and there for an experience that took nearly two hours. We were happy with the quality of the food and the pace based on when we ordered our dishes. Can't wait to go back."

  • "We need more restaurants like this. We've gone twice in the last month and both times it has a kinetic energy pulsing through it. The food in fantastic and the Sake menu is beyond compare. The "feel" of the place is fantastic. Between Baku and Cow Fish across the street, I probably don't ever have to leave that 100 foot area to eat in Charlotte! Definitely worth the drive down from the lake."

  • "Group of four, ordered small plates & sushi for sharing - beef skewers were excellent & pork belly skewers very good, scallop skewers nice, too. Yellowtail maki was the table favorite, lobster roll on the menu specials was terrific. Spicy edamame to start was a nice switch up from the norm, a little messy, but worth it. Everyone each ordered the Baku salad - dressing was really good. Fantastic sake choices. Good vibe. Sharing made for a fun, conversational business dinner - not as formal as a traditional steakhouse/seafood restaurant, server was very attentive. Baku would be a good date spot or for special occasions as well. All around terrific choice in the Southpark area."
