I had a hard time finding something for lunch. Got the chicken Cobb salad. It did not say it was deconstructed on the menu. It was a small pile of beautiful lettuce next to an enormous, bland chicken breast, a clump of sun dried tomatoes, a few pieces of avocado and some chunks of amazing bacon and a hard boiled egg. Definitely highs and lows....I didn't love it. My friend loved the trout. Her $9 bowl of soup looked good, too. We were seated within five minutes of our reservation time, even though they had a large number of diners waiting for tables. Definitely make a reservation. The noise level was a little high, but we were seated in a lovely quiet corner. Our server was attentive and helpful. We ordered a bottle of wine and enjoyed it. I chose the Skuva Bay Salmon and my husband ordered the Filet. Both were delicious. I also ordered a side of the cranberry, walnut rice. The flavors were wonderful. Dessert was the vanilla bean creme brulee-frozen on the bottom, carmelized on the top. It was awesome! All the decor was perfect and the seats were very comfortable. The salad I ordered was beautiful and the best Champagne Vinaigrette I have ever tasted. The vegetables explode in your mouth with flavor. Our dinners were beautifully presented, mine was bacon wrapped grilled shrimp & my husband had seared tuna. His was excellent, Mine was also excellent and had a crust of bacon wrapped around prawn sized shrimp...both delicious. To finish it off, we had to try the fried oreos and vanilla bean ice cream....no disappointment there, either. Wit no eye contact being made and feeling extremely awkward, I initiated a "Good evening - how are you?". Looking perturbed, the two glared at me as I stated my party's name and reservation. Once seated, the evening and food was quite remarkable. Our waitress had in depth knowledge of the wine list and menu. She took photos of our special occasion and remembered a few of us from the previous week. She even remembered what we had ordered the prior week. It is upscale, delicious food served in generous portions for reasonable prices. The house salad comes packed with lots of fresh ingredients and the house-made dressings are unique and delicious. The knife and fork fried chicken is fantastic- well-seasoned, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It is a must-try! Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. Well, they were met and exceeded! The food at Bakersfield is unrivaled! We had four very different dishes: salmon, steak, trout and a steak/noodle bowl. All were outstanding and beautifully presented. I am anxious to return on a Friday night and sit at the counter and split an entree with my husband and enjoy a bowl of roasted onion soup. Sadly, they used to have it at the bar during happy hour (gratis) but that since has changed. Please bring it back!
This is not an inexpensive restaurant, but the portions are good and the execution has stepped up since last year.

So, as a surprise to my girlfriend, for her birthday, i took her. We had a great time. Food was delicious, service was a little mono-toned but very polite and attentive. My eggs benedict was cooked perfectly and the hollandaise was very light in texture and slightly lemony which I like very much. The quiche lorraine was very creamy and rich with a crisp crust and huge portion. Bakersfield is a favorite for dinner as well. Several visits and have never been dissappointed. I was told by the hostess that "people were sitting for longer than they anticipated." But after reading the reviews here, I see that this is the general practice of this restaurant. I'm not going to spend more money for drinks in your bar because you are apparently overbooking prime weekend night time slots. So while we enjoyed the food, service, and ambiance, I am knocking them down a full star for not honoring our reservation time. My husband had the veal burger and loved it. I had the fish of the day and it was so delicious and a very nice portion of the fish. As a native Californian, i can say that there definitely is a California feel to it.On our most recent visit, Chris, our waiter did an excellent job of describing the fish of the day. We both ordered it and loved it. He was very attentive and personable. When my husband couldn't decide on a wine by the class, Chris asked their sommelier, Todd, to help out. He was so knowledgeable and engaging. You could really tell that he knew his wines and he enjoyed sharing his expertise. As usual, the experience was great.
