A word from Baker House
Join us for casual, small plate dining & fireside cocktails in our decadently furnished 1885 mansion. In the spirit of the great lakefront "cottages" of yesteryear, the BAKER HOUSE has recreated a world of Gilded Age living where grand entertaining is experienced daily and lavish parties are thrown nightly. Sing along at the player piano in our music room, play poker in the game room, savor fine wine in our library and dine fireside in our parlor. Instead of traditional restaurant seating, guests are served in plush wing backed chairs and overstuffed fringed couches throughout the mansion. Our menu of small plates is conducive for lounging and sharing & features many regional items such as Wisconsin artisan cheese boards, savory charcuterie, seasonal fondues and heartier favorites like sirloin sliders and robust garden paninis. Situated on the East shore of Geneva Lake with panoramic views of the lake and Riviera. For an extra special evening, book a second floor mansion hotel suite! Continued

  • "From the moment we walked in, we knew it was going to be great! the building is beautiful, the staff is warm and fun-loving, and the food is excellent. We went for Sunday brunch and sat on the "front porch" overlooking the lake. Everything was wonderful, and the hats are a nice, quirky and fun addition to a beautiful place. Thanks to everyone for taking such good care of us."

  • "Courteous staff, excellent food, and outstanding decor made this a perfect place for a proposal. She said yes!!!"

  • "Great place from the outside with a nice throw back look in the interior. For having a such a small menu I expected a much higher lever of prep and taste. The food was ok but not up to par with the decor and the hype. The view of the lake was the best thing my wife and I enjoyed. If you want a long and non impressive dinner then definitely go to the Baker House."

  • "We had a great experience. Servers were nice and efficient. They accommodated our special request without hesitation. Our meal was one of the best we have had in a long time. The sirloin sliders melted in your mouth. We have already recommended The Baker House to friends and family."

  • "A group of four went for brunch last Sunday. The breakfast was great, but the lunch portion could amp it up a bit. Dessert on the other hand was delicious!!"

  • "This was a great choice for brunch! Good food, lots of history, and fun hats to wear! We were in the "game room" of this old Victorian, sitting at a roulette table to eat! Old school games for the kids to play were a great hit. So fun!"

  • "My husband surprised me with dinner reservations here and he invited two other couples. We had the most magnificent time. The food, service and ambience were impeccable. What an absolutely perfect evening."

  • "My family and I visited The Baker House for Sunday brunch. This is by far the best food I've ever had. That is the reason that I wanted my grandparents just experience it, even though they're from Chicago. It is definitely worth the trip, and the environment, the decor, and staff are amazing. It is like stepping back in time."

  • "The waitress although very polite, seemed to have more than she could handle. She took our drink orders promptly, but did not return with the drinks for 15 minutes. When it was time to pay she was no where to be found. This seemed to be a pattern with her other guest as well. Her name was Lola."

  • "We love Baker House. Great service, delicious steaks, and gluten free options. Our server may have been dressed perfectly for this 1920's style restaurant but she certainly understood our 2014 diet restrictions. Step back in time in this beautiful setting, bring your hat or borrow one of theirs, and have fun."

  • "It was a very enjoyable experience. Food, atmosphere, service beyond excellent. Would love to go back in the summer when you can sit outside and enjoy the view of the lake. We had so much fun. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to our friends and are already trying to plan an outing there this summer."

  • "I went to celebrate a friend's birthday and it was the perfect setting for this occasion. We were sat in the back room area that overlooks Geneva Lake and it was a beautiful setting. From our server "Peach" to the creme brûlée it was delightful evening. We started off with the asparagus soup and we wanted to like our cups clean, from there we moved on to several of their small plates including the special of stuffed mushrooms (which were stuffed with their signature crab cakes), to the bruschetta and their fried green beans. It was all delicious and I can't wait to go back to try some of their large plate options. Try it out you will not be disappointed!"

  • "A hidden gem with lots of history. Great food and fun atmosphere. This is a place for a special occasion or special night out. I live in Chicago and stopped in at Baker House on a weekend getaway. If I lived closer I would be there every week! The staff were wonderful, and very knowledgeable on the history of the building. Feel free to wear one of their many hats on display to make the night that much more fun! Great concept!"

  • "We had a wonderful dinner experience. We really didn't have any idea that the staff would be dressed in period costume. How fun! Love the ideas of the hats but as a former preschool teacher, I and my party, would not put a community hat on our heads. The food was great and thank you for tailoring our food to our requests. Peaches was such a fun server. Thanks again!"

  • "This was winter, so the option of outdoor dining did not exist. We want to go back when the garden is an option as it looks wonderful. We were on the enclosed porch looking out over the garden; this is a wonderful old mansion. We dined on small plates, so we shared the various dishes. All were very good to excellent, except for the she crab soup which was somewhat disappointing… Desert was also wonderful with a great crème brulee. A very nice wine (Three field blend 2010) complimented our experience."

  • "...my wife and I enjoyed a very special anniversary dinner at the Baker House. The food was excellent and, combined with the atmosphere of this beautiful old mansion right on the lake, it made for a perfect night out. We were seated out on the front porch which was actually quite comfortable despite the frigid temperatures outside that evening. The staff was helpful and, everyone was dressed in appropriate period attire (there was a nice selection of headgear available for guests to choose from if we desired join in with the look and feel of the place. A special sort of place for a special sort of meal. We will definitely be coming back here again."

  • "4 of us ladies from up north came for a weekend in Lake Geneva. Although it was probably not the best location weather-wise this time of year, The Baker House was the highlight. From the venue, to the hats, to the staff, to the food, top notch and so much fun, seriously. The staff put up with us changing hats (and probably getting in the way of the staff moving from the kitchen to the tables). And, the adult beverages were mixed to perfection. The old-fashioned made for one of us was the best I've ever tasted. Perfect mix with just the gin and tonic I ordered. Wine, delicious. And my daughter loved the Ramblin' Rose. Excellet, excellent, excellent!"

  • "My husband and I celebrated our anniversary there. Everything was amazing, cuisine was delicious, drinks were great and different. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. Only thing I didn't like was the fact that they didn't do anything special for us to help us celebrate our anniversary. They did not give us a special table or free dessert any nice gesture to acknowledge our celebration. most restaurants I have gone to for other important celebrations will do something special for you."

  • "Very friendly staff. Had a drink in the bar while our table was being prepared. My wife enjoyed the mixed drinks, and I had a couple of craft brews. The brie cheese pastry and she crab soup were both excellent separately, but were phenomenonal as an appetizer combo. My filet was perfectly medium well. My wife really enjoyed her chicken. The overall experience was rare in that it actually met, and probably exceeded our high expectations."

  • "Never had been here before, but chose to take my sweetheart here for Valentine's Day Eve. Right away we were struck by the ambience, the elaborately decorated walls, and the old time costumes the staff were wearing. We had the joy of listening to Tom Stanfield play and sing old time classics on the piano and trumpet the night we were there. My wife and I shared the catch of the day as our main course, and followed it up with a truly delectable dessert of the chocolate fondue. My wife and I rarely get to go out, but this evening proved to be entirely what we needed. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a sweet romantic evening, and a fashion experience of trying on a few old time hats!"

  • "We ate brunch at the Baker House and had so much fun trying on (and wearing) the unique hats they display. Baker House was an old Victorian home having various intimate eating areas. The décor is beautiful with multiple fireplaces and antiques. We had the brunch which included the typical breakfast of made-to-order omelets, waffles, biscuits and gravy. Lunch included chicken, crab cakes, beef tips and more. Lots of desserts and fruit and salads. Overall, a good variety and fresh, good quality foods. I will be back again to try out their lunch and dinners. Friendly staff, good food and excellent atmosphere. Probably not a good place for younger children but great for a girl's get away or couples."

  • "It was the second time I have been to this restaurant. First time was for a romantic date night with my husband, and this time a ladies weekend. Both times it has been a wonderful unique experience. The menu is great, the ambience is even better. The service is also very lively and attentive. Love this place !"

  • "Food tasty.BIG variety. Beautifully displayed. Hostess was thorough in her introduction to each food area. Bit of awkwardness in their revised food station arrangement (since our last visit). They had their chef making omelettes and eggs Benedict, and most other prepared breakfast foods (bacon, sausage potatoes, etc) set up in the bar/lounge area with entering guest check-in right at that entryway. Food, plates, congestion of people, all a recipe for dropped plates, spilled food and frustrated patrons. Sadly, our service was almost non-existent. Never knew who was our server!!! I have been to this brunch more than once so was surprised to find these conditions. Any business can have off times, I WILL go again. We ALL deserve second chances."

  • "This is a wonderful place for Sunday brunch. We sat on the porch overlooking Lake Geneva and all really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere as well as the great tradition of guests being able to pick hats to wear from a collection of vintage hats hanging through out the restaurant . By the end of brunch we all were wearing hats and having a great time. There were breakfast foods and a chef preparing made to order omelets in one room, plenty of salads, breads, desserts in the hallway and more lunch items and hot dishes in another room. Everything we tasted was so delicious & the service was excellent ! We highly recommend it. I can't wait to try dinner here some day."

  • "My husband and I loved dining at the Baker house, but the couple that sat in the same room were obviously repeat customers who insisted on chatting with all of the wait staff. They were loud, and annoying and there were constantly extra people standing near our table with their backs to us. It was often difficult to hear my husband over the noise they were causing. We loved the food and the whole place, but were put off by the people seated near us."

  • "We LOVED our experience at the Baker House! It was such a beautiful home and the food was fantastic! I had the wedge salad and the filet with mushrooms and blue cheese and they were amazing! My filet came the delicious vegetable and mashed potatoes too. The overall experience was priceless and you must visit if you are in Lake Geneva!"

  • "My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal last weekend. We went to the Sunday brunch, and there was something for everyone! My children (ages 12 and 8) had fun trying on the many different hats they had there. I would definitely recommend this for friends who are visiting the area. I would have to say that this was the one meal ,out of the entire weekend that we were there, that was by far the best. We will definitely be back."

  • "A taste of vintage Lake Geneva at this beautiful old mansion turned restaurant. The décor is timeless and the personal service was outstanding. Also a bit of fun having your choice of dozens of special hats one could wear to dinner compliments of the house. The meal was delicious for most of us although 2 of our party of 10 had "chewy" steaks. Altogether a wonderful dining experience."
