A word from Baker House
Join us for casual, small plate dining & fireside cocktails in our decadently furnished 1885 mansion. In the spirit of the great lakefront "cottages" of yesteryear, the BAKER HOUSE has recreated a world of Gilded Age living where grand entertaining is experienced daily and lavish parties are thrown nightly. Sing along at the player piano in our music room, play poker in the game room, savor fine wine in our library and dine fireside in our parlor. Instead of traditional restaurant seating, guests are served in plush wing backed chairs and overstuffed fringed couches throughout the mansion. Our menu of small plates is conducive for lounging and sharing & features many regional items such as Wisconsin artisan cheese boards, savory charcuterie, seasonal fondues and heartier favorites like sirloin sliders and robust garden paninis. Situated on the East shore of Geneva Lake with panoramic views of the lake and Riviera. For an extra special evening, book a second floor mansion hotel suite! Continued

  • "Great all round. My wife and I had a wonderful time. Food was excellent as was service. The sunset toast was a blast!"

  • "We arrived at this elegant, converted, century-old home with a gorgeous view of the lake and were taken to our table. Across the room a lady pianist was playing popular songs from the early-to-late 1900s. Our server, a friendly college-age young lady, was eager to answer our questions and recommend dining selections. After cocktails we shared a pulled pork chopped salad and a grilled Atlantic salmon, both of which were delicious, followed by creme brulee. Our server then told us of a complimentary champagne on the terrace, overlooking the lake and a setting sun, where a "Butler," in traditional dress, gave a brief history of the House and toasted those celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Overall, a great experience. We'll be back."

  • "For my wife and myself, the best part was the entertainment provided by Tom Stanfield! He is so talented and provides such a terrific atmosphere!"
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "The Baker house was beautiful, but our service was not. Our server didn't know how to open a bottle of wine, and we never received our dinner items.... Honestly! We ordered and it never came! She totally forgot about it and never even wrote it down. So we enjoyed our bottle of wine, that I opened and the cheese plate. I understand things like this happen so it is what it is."

  • "The dining areas are decorated like private Victorian-era dining rooms, and the staff are dressed in period costumes. They invite you to wear any of the hats on the walls while you eat. The menu is small and seasonal, and more appropriate for brunch or lunch than dinner. We found the prices to be realistic. I would definitely go back."

  • "It has been some years since we ate here. The last time was on the enclosed patio and this time we came for Sunday brunch and ate in the library. The preparations both on the buffet and the omelet bar were tempting and delicious."

  • "We expected a great dining. The food was great but served all at once - fast food style (only with higher prices)."
    Dined on 7/9/2014
  • "Neat place; now that I can say that I've been there I would probably not go back. I'm glad I went but the food was average; you're paying for the ambience and location. I would say once you check it off your list don't go back unless you're independently wealthy and want to be spoiled. nice staff."

  • "If you are looking for someplace that's special...this old mansion is the place. Several rooms set up in which to dine...large groups or couples. Overlooking Lake Geneva (WI) it's quite a pleasure to dine here."

  • "Amazing house! Picking a hat was great fun, but what was this place again? Oh yeah, It's a RESTAURANT! Staff seemed very young and not polished. Bussers too shy and clearing clumsily. Server was fake sweet. Champs élysées cocktail was horrible. Ordered the cheese board. It had 3 tiny pieces of bread on it. When we asked for a couple more pieces she said they were almost out and had to save the rest for the other orders. Whaaa? Ran out of barbecue chicken. When we asked how shrimp boil was prepared, server knew nothing and did not want to find out for us. Did not offer dessert, after we had been listening to the table behind us rave about the choc fondue. Just rushed us out. Aspects of experience were either outstanding or a train wreck!"

  • "Baker House has it all... Fantastic food, lovely ambience, friendly service! I loved the period furnishings and trying on the many hats throughout the restaurant was so much fun ! The sundowner's toast was so memorable and a surprise to us! Everyone at the restaurant congregated outside for a toast to the sunset and a little history of the Baker House. Also, special recognition was given to those people celebrating birthdays with a hearty singing of "Happy Birthday". The outside patio area was also lovely and festive and a perfect place for lunch or appetizers ! The price was quite reasonable for such lovely good and atmosphere! I look forward to dining there again!"

  • "I have been to the Baker house a few times over the years and have always been very impressed and sent many friends there. They have changed their menu and have been moving away from the small plate style. I am very sad to see this and very much enjoyed their old menu. I will not be returning unless they decide to change back. Service and good were great just not the Baker House I loved."

  • "The Baker House was amazing! My group and myself were in town on a trip to stay at the Grand Geneva and I found your establishment online. Read some of the reviews and decided that we had to try it. We were not disappointed at all! The food was awesome! I recommend the bacon wrapped dates to everyone! We opted for several of the small plate items and shared everything. A great way to spend an evening. The only complaint would be that we were seated in a room with a large table of people and once everyone started talking it was very hard to hear anyone. The noise level was a little excessive. Other than that a wonderful experience!"

  • "We thought the food was delicious along with the view. We sat in the front room facing the lake. The decor was unique and original. We wore our fancy hats that were provided there. A huge selection of hats. The only thing that we were not aware of after being told about the unlimited champagne brunch was that other beverages like diet soda were NOT included in the price. We figured out after The fact that coffee, tea and champagne were included and other beverages were Ala carte. Even with that being said, the food and atmosphere was worth the price for a special celebration. Brunch. We would definitely return for a special occasion meal in the future. It was a beautiful view and historical building"

  • "The Baker House was a gorgeous attraction to see and we are glad that we went; however, the food is highly overpriced and the quality was very low for such a place. In addition, the number of entree options was very weak at 4. The service was also lacking. We didn't have a good experience; however, it might have been that we were only 2 people (my wife and I). It appeared as if larger groups (the many bachelorette parties) received better attention. I would not recommend it you are a foodie, or if you like prompt and personable service. The location is quite an attraction, and the rooms and sites are beautiful."

  • "Baker House is unique dining destination with a festive attitude. Food was average. The charm of the Baker House is in the period details. The decor is perfect. Fun sundown tradition with a bit of history thrown in."

  • "Between the decor, the hats and the toast to sunset, it was a fun night for our family. On top of that, the food was very good as well."

  • "Really enjoyed a glass of wine and appetizers with friends. They have have historic hats you can wear while you dine, to create a more fun a memorable experience. Highly recommend it."

  • "My daughters and granddaughters and I had a marvelous experience at the Baker House. The girls LOVED dressing up with the hats which was a bonus to all the wonderful food and ambiance. Can't recommend this place enuf. We took lots of photos in the beautiful garden after the Brunch. PERFECT place for a "girls" get-away."

  • "We had a wonderful time at the Baker House.. It was lovely with the ornate decor which was the original in the house. It was charming, delishious and welcoming.. I would recommend it to everyone and we will go back soon!"

  • "Wonderful food, graceful service. A gem in Lake Geneva!"
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "The Baker house is a beautiful home transformed into a restaurant. We loved how every room has it's own ambiance. Live music made it fun. The ambiance is the pre-prohibition time period and the servers are dressed up in that time period. Good is good too, but a little more variety in the main dishes was needed. Overall, a good time and good food."

  • "Enjoyed the lovely home and unique menu choices. We split several small plates and found it was sufficient to fill us up. Loved the sunset toast on the lawn. A fun unique evening."

  • "The staff was friendly and the ambiance was great. I would love to have a tour of the house. Food was outstanding. Sorry that the bunch of bankruptcy attorneys had booked the place and forced us out before the sunset."

  • "Went with my Mother, sisters and uncle and had a great time. We arrived just in time for the sunset toast. Service was initially slow, and I was disappointed that some of the items that were on the menu last summer are gone (the small plate towers, fried pickles) but the food was still very good. Cheese fondue is amazing. Pork sliders and salmon dinner were fantastic. We also had bruschetta, sauteed mushrooms and cheese plate - all good. We took great pictures in hats and around the roulette table to rememeber our visit. The unique ambience is wonderful."

  • "This restaurant has a menu of small plate options and a few big plate ones. I would not go there for the food but the atmosphere. Everyone is dressed in costumes. There is a wall of hats that you can choose from if you desire. The hotel is full of antiques and you sit in one of the four different rooms to have your dinner. At 8:00 they invite everyone outside to celebrate the sun going down and recognize anyone that is celebrating a special occasion. I would highly recommend experiencing it once."

  • "Once again, we enjoyed sharing the gem of Lake Geneva with family and friends. Even without the marvelous food and detailed service, just sharing the Baker House "building", layout, rooms, fire places, furniture, fixtures, etc. really wowed all of us again!"
    Dined on 6/10/2014
  • "The sunset toast was a great touch to make the dining experience memorable. At sunset, the wait staff escorts the entire clientele out into the courtyard to toast the end of the day and welcome the evening. What a cool idea! "

  • "We had a delicious dinner of small plates . The ambience was very enjoyable and the wearing of the period hats made of dining at fun experience."

  • "Baker House is beautiful and very unique. We loved the atmosphere, the look, the hats, the different rooms and the friendliness of the staff. The service though was super slow. 45 minutes after taking our food order we were asked if they should put the food order in?!? I thought you take the order and then put it in automatically? We ordered a bottle of wine for dinner. Wine came after we were all finished eating. We were celebrating a birthday but we were never asked if we wanted any dessert. I guess we had used up our 2 hours allocated for the room. So strange that that was their issue and not ours. Fun place and food was good."

  • "We recently dined at The Baker House and found it to be an absolutely wonderful dining experience. Their wine list was great, the food was amazing and the service was outstanding. I loved the vintage vibe of the restaurant and the lovely hats that you would wear while dining. It is definitely an elevated dining experience for the casual restaurants surrounding it - and I loved it. It was a great escape back in time. I highly recommend this place for anyone seeking a unique and memorable experience in Lake Geneva."

  • "I attended a wedding at the Baker House 1 yr ago with a Sunday brunch the next day. I loved the brunch so much last year that I wanted to celebrate our 25th anniversary there the this year. We did and had brunch on Sunday, May 25, 2014. The atmosphere was lovely but I was very disappointed with the brunch overall. I requested a table on the veranda but had to wait 1/2 hour because they had our table set up in the dining room. The food was extremely sparce (many of the chafing dishes were empty and we had to ask them to be refilled). I was quite surprised after receiving our bill that a small glass of juice was $4 (plus tax & tip). I have never been to a brunch where juice was not included with the price. Brunch was a diappointment! "

  • "I completely fell in love with this place. The food was delicious, the place is beautiful. The service was outstanding, the drinks fantastic. I love the experience so much that we went back the next night to have another awesome experience. We enjoyed the sunset celebration, the fancy hats you get to wear. The owners are so nice and friendly. We also got the cabaret show combo that we truly loved. It was like going back in time definitely an amazing experience. Just got back home in Chicago and already planning our next trip to dine at the Baker's House once again."

  • "We were not impressed with the food at Baker House, except for the crab bisque, which was delicious. We were also disappointed that the front porch was off limits to anyone except those staying at Baker House, though we could understand why they would want to hold that space for their own customers. The vegetarian dish was pretty awful, the lake trout was not as good as it should have been. The best thing about dinner was going to Kilwin's for ice cream afterwards!"
