A word from Baker and Banker
Husband and wife team Lori Baker and Jeff Banker opened the doors to their Lower Pacific Heights restaurant in December 2009.The dining room, decorated with caramel colored walls and leather banquettes, sits in a historic turn of the century Victorian that once served as an apothecary. Chef Jeff Banker prepares seasonally driven New American cuisine that utilizes produce and meats sourced from local farms. Pastry Chef Lori Baker turns out hand crafted breads and sophisticated versions of classic American desserts. Our wine list has been carefully chosen to maximize the diners experience with a mix of Old and New World labels. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Shared a lovely dining experience with my spouse at Baker & Banker this past weekend. Reservations had been suggested by a friend who gave us the tip on this restaurant. We were seated exactly on time. Had a delightful server who anticipated our every need, and a dinner that was excellent. My husband had the swordfish and I had lamb shank; both done perfectly. Food portions were perfect; wine list is good. Save room for dessert! A delicious list to choose from. Staff here is very friendly, and both of the chefs (husband & wife owners) came by throughout the evening. Their personal attention to every detail makes this a special place."

  • "Tucked in a quiet neighborhood between Japantown and the fringes of Baja Pac Heights is Baker and Banker. A location with two previous foodie favorite tenants, B&B continues the tradition. Food is simple yet complex but not precious. Good proportions. Well balanced. Will go back again."

  • "the fresh bread basket and all our food was really good but the stand out winner of the night was the dessert. holy cow.. i'm thinking about the next time i can make it out here for just for the desserts."

  • "My husband and I had a wonderful romantic date night this week at Baker and Banker. We have been to every carnation of this space (meeting house, quince and now Baker and Banker). Everything was enjoyable from the service, food and the ambiance. Though given all the amazing restaurants in the city, I doubt I would return and instead try something new."

  • "Was very excited to try this restaurant on our SF vacation, read a great review on Sosh but was disappointed with the overall quality of the experience. There's no valet parking on Sunday. The food was good, not amazing, very overpriced, and the main dishes did not come with vegetables, so we would have had to pay extra for these sides. The dinner was fine but I wish we'd gone elsewhere for one of our few dinners in the city."

  • "Not that I didn't expect this place to be good, but I didn't expect it to be this good. The food was fantastic--one of the better meals I've had in SF. Helpful, attentive service (including the owner/chef walking the floor more than once) and a very warm setting. A bit of an eclectic wine list--mostly European, but there are good, affordable options. The menu changes daily, but the seared ahi appetizer was delicious."

  • "I had heard great things about Baker and Banker and it did not disappoint. The farfalle was excellent! The chef even came out to ask us how we enjoyed the meal. The service was attentive and friendly. I will go back again."

  • "My husband, son and I had the most memorable meal paired with the featured wines. We loved each flavor-packed course beautifully complemented by each wine. Even the bread and butter was outstanding. What started as a simple Monday night out turned into a special occasion dinner. An added bonus was meeting the wine makers who stopped by to chat and, as always, the staff are enjoyable and friendly while maintaining a high level of professionalism. A very special dining experience.,"

  • "Baker and Banker continues to amaze me! This was my 3rd time and it is as always consistent. From the food to the wine and service, the whole experience was top notch. We brought two friends who just moved here from Germany and they fell in love with the quaint environment and the delicious food! Thank you again for a great experience!"

  • "Early evening birthday dinner. Regretted not ordering the Kir Royale before dinner. Would have loved a cocktail but beer and wine list is solid. Smoked trout appetizer was outstanding. Pork tenderloin entree was very good and the coconut cream "pie" for dessert was extraordinary. Service was top-notch."

  • "As B&B is in our hood, we were hoping for the same experience we had there a long time ago. Unfortunately, it's gone down hill. We requested a quiet table (bday celebration) and were seated in between two packed in deuces...had to ask to be moved, even though our request was on the reservation and the restaurant was practically empty. Then, the waiter seemed nervous, very jumpy and always filling our wine (way before the food came out). The food was meh...bland and quite small portions. The bread, which used to be great was like left over breakfast breads that were stale -- and we had to pay $5 for it! I don't know what happened here...but they lost the magic. Sad!"

  • "The food quality and service was great. However, we were early 20 minutes and the hostess made us wait outside for the entire time even though half of the restaurant was empty!"

  • "I'm a foodie who appreciates amazing service. Baker and Banker delivered on everything. Our waiter gave us just the right level of attention, the sommelier brought us the perfect wine...loved the visit at our table by Chefs Baker and Banker themselves to ensure all food enjoyed. (Extra impressive both chefs left the kitchen to make a pass thru the restaurant at peak dinner hour.) Food was excellent--highlight was the smoked trout w/ potato latkes appetizer. I love smoked fish, this gets 5-stars from me! My friend ordered a duck breast dish with wheatberries, dried cherries, and cocoa nibs. Mmmm! Duck done perfectly. Low point of evening was my seafood risotto--nothing memorable. No gluten-free deserts, so we ended the evening there."

  • "Found the reviews on Yelp for this place. Decided to eat here before a comedy show. The servers were extremely welcoming and our waiter was knowledgable and extremely helpful in making our decision easy. I ordered the NY strip ... "Perfect" is an understatement .. It was wonderful. My wife had the pork, which was also perfectly cooked and tasted great. I would highly recommend this place."

  • "We love visiting SF and we always enjoy amazing food. B&B did not disappoint but delivered a relaxing, delectable dinner. We shared our dishes of seafood risotto and beef medallions; both were delicious. The last two times we're dined here we've sat next to returning customers who help make the dining experience as well."

  • "I've been coming to Baker and Banker for a few years. Always enjoyed the food but the ambiance is especially lovely for intimate dinners. I went here for a birthday with my significant other and, as always, they delivered. We ordered the potato pancake with trout for an appetizer which was beyond delicious and the New York loin and pork dishes for entrees. Also fabulous. Wasn't super thrilled about the dessert options (I like simple desserts and they get quite complicated here), but the triple layer chocolate cake is and was a solid choice. Great restaurant. Never disappoints."

  • "Baker and Banker is one of our favorite Restaurants in SF. We live 2.5 hours north of the city, and when we come down we like to eat well. You can't do mush better than this. Also, i do not eat meat, and there is always good options for me. My wife does and is always happy there too."

  • "This was my first time at Baker and Banker and definitely want to go back. Food, atmosphere and wines were terrific. Only issue was we had a waiter that either was having a bad night or for some reason, decided to give us an attitude. It was extremely obvious when we saw how the waiter at the next table was describing food, wine and making suggestions, even brought an amuse bouche for them. Definitely recommend for the food, hopefully you don't get our waiter."

  • "Came for Valentine's Day. We were seated and then ignored for the first few minutes. Champagne was served at room temperature. What a novelty. The tasting menu was weak. It was, in my assessment, designed to cost the restaurant little, a fact that was thinly disguised. Forgettable all around. Horrible main course of some kind of cannelloni. Duck pate app overpowered by quince. Had anything been satisfactory, I may be inclined to return since I live nearby. Sadly, the restaurant's food, staff and atmosphere are absolutely not worth reliving."

  • "We passed by the restaurant all the time because their bakery. And it was a totally surprise when we went inside. The feeling was romantic, the restaurant host was really nice. We ordered the pork chop and duck breast for main dishes. It got the best pork chop I have even eaten, juicy, soft and big! The duck was really good, too. My favorite was their dessert. "Banana, chocolate & peanut butter crisp, toffee crunch ice cream" was very tasty and we couldn't stop eating!!!"

  • "My friend and I made our selection base on our question and answer from the waiter and he's right on. The two fish dish was fantastic and my friend's duck was very well done as well. The portion was perfect and the pastry even delivered the desert. Upon hearing that we debated over two dessert options she bought out the one we didn't order for us to sample! Excellent service and great food!"

  • "Really enjoyed the dinner, food was terrific - portions a little on the small side. Smoked trout app was the best smoked trout I have had in a long time. The Liberty duck was succulent and the sunchoke side delicious. Outstanding desserts! If you like chocolate the XXX chocolate dessert was rich, velvety goodness."

  • "The menu may look simple, but it's the execution of the dishes that really make this restaurant stand out. (Plus, they change their menu daily!) Everything we had was delicious--the linguine, duck breast, and XXX-triple layer chocolate cake. Also, service was excellent--and it was a nice treat to have the pastry chef stop by to say hello. :) I didn't mind the noise too much, but my mom's voice was a bit scratchy/hoarse by the end of the evening (since she was talking above the noise so much). ;p Can't be helped with the high ceilings and box-like space (and flowing alcohol amongst the diners), but something to be aware of if you're wanting a quiet spot to dine at. We'll definitely be back for the food and service though!"

  • "The panna cotta with almond cake and lemon sorbet, topped with fresh blueberries and chopped almond was one of the best desserts I've ever had! Heck, EVERYTHiNG I had was fantastic. Really impressed by this husband-wife team. They came out and checked in with all their guests which made visible the passion they have for this job...plus you can truly taste the passion in the bread, entrees and desserts. Highly suggest to save up and go all out. The service was also great."

  • "Simple, yet elegant. A block from home. Excellent food and unique combinations. Crab cake that melted in my mouth, followed by soft shell crab on soba noodles. Duck with crunchy skin and duck confit. Red wine that kept getting better during each course. Milk chocolate and peanut butter crisp with French press coffee - now, what could possible be better. And, I didn't have to wash a dish afterwards!"

  • "We had a superb experience at Baker and Banker. It's rare to find a restaurant where they hit high marks in every area important to you. B & B has excellent, fresh, creative food. Service is gracious and discreet - you feel they are aware of you and come at exactly the right time - and still leave you be to enjoy your meal. The ambiance is charming, romantic and quiet enough to hear each other. Notable winter menu items: sturgeon on a bean ragout; celery root soup; sun chokes in sundried tomato coulis... and the wine list. We had a 2010 Bandol that was a perfect accompaniment to a very memorable evening. We will definitely be back."
