Diner Reviews
  • "Had Sunday brunch with my son on our last day in New York. Our requested table was by the window and the whole experience was just wonderful. The service was friendly and attentive, with excellent cocktail and wine recommendations. The food was exceptional, I had a beef short rib hash and my son had salmon eggs Benedict which he said "were the best he had in his life"! All in all could not fault any aspect of the experience and would highly recommend this restaurant. Five stars all round !"

  • "My husband picked this place for dinner as my sister was in town visiting. I was sceptical but it turned out ok, but I would not say 'great'. The bread was great and so was the fish special (red snapper) but the pasts bummed. Service was very good though. We would return, perhaps for lunch."

  • "The menu is healthy and delish. I love the ambiance and have never had a bad meal. :)"

  • "Great view of NY harbor, outdoor seating, and moderate pricing."

  • "GREAT ambiance, spacious, cozy-feel and well-done. The parfait thing I had wasn't great...95% thin yogurt with 3% OK granola and 2% fruit. The pastries were good and my friend's salmon dish looked amazing. I'll be back..."

  • "We made reservations based on the menu we saw on line. That menu had nothing to do with the menu at the restaurant. We didnt stay."

  • "Lots of space, tasty burgers, a view of the water, and our waiter had the right amount of service while we had our meeting."

  • "Excellent brunch in a nice spot. And a great neighborhood to spend the day in."

  • "Great food. The host was excellent. I would go back and recommend the salmon entree. One issue though, the server came to the table to check on us at inappropriate times on more than 1 occasion. And we understood it was packed but we were offered the check while we were biting into our dessert. Felt a bit rushed."

  • "This was my second time here for Sunday brunch. Very good as before. The only downside was that they were out of most of their baked goods at 1:30. Really??"

  • "I enjoyed our brunch experience at Bakehouse. As recommended by other customers, we ordered pastries first and then the meal. All the food was superb. We had salmon eggs benedict and eggs florentine. We also ordered mimosas which were fine. Our waiter was pleasant and efficient. The only complaint was that the food was a little pricier than were used to."

  • "Food was pretty good. Little overcooked - salmon & steak"

  • "Brought some out of town relatives here for dinner at the recommendation of a friend. Food was very good, drinks were very good, view was very good. Service was excellent. We got there a bit early for dinner so it was pretty quiet when we arrived but busy when we left. Noise level was perfect for conversation, which is exactly what we wanted. "

  • "This is a great place for brunch! The food is good - I had the egg sandwich on a croissant (delish) and the Go Green juice I had was also delicious. My dad didn't think the chicken sandwich was very good though (bland), which is why it's 4 stars instead of 5."

  • "A small dinner menu with a couple of specials led me to believe that the food would be better than it was. Beet salad was drowned in dressing and the organic chicken was uninteresting. The space is bright and open with views of the water, the wait staff is pleasant and accommodating and that goes a long way. However for the noise level is too high. Plenty of other places in the West Village to choose from."

  • "The food was amazing my only negative was that the service was a little slow considering the restaurant was not full at that time."

  • "Food was OK. I had the ricotta pancakes and they were very dry. Service was bad. Our waitress pretty much ignored us after she took our order. We had to ask the Manager for our check because our waitress was busy with the customers that ordered cocktails. Restaurant was very noisy. Will not return. The next time I want ricotta pancakes, I will go to Sarabeth's where the service is better."

  • "Waiter thought he was special, but he was quite lacking. Table of 4 got 3 pieces of bread the size if a 1/2 piece of sandwich loaf. Had to ask for more twice. Water ran out. One person didn't like cocktail but was charged for it. Beet salad served instead if lamb meatballs for appetizer. Dessert menu served while used dinner plates were still on table. No decaf coffee available. It goes on and on. It became a bit silly. "

  • "I have been here before with good results: food and service were both good. This time, the food was mediocre, the service was sad, the noise level was too high, and the wine on the wine list was not available. Altogether skippable."

  • "This is the second time I've been to Bakehouse for brunch, and am consistently happy when I do. It has a really fun atmosphere (although sometimes a little too loud for normal conversation), the decor is great, it over looks the westside highway, but past that the Hudson River park. The food is simple but well-executed, and really good-sized portions. My husband had the short rib hash which really was delicious, I had the breakfast platter that came with eggs, your choice of pancakes or french toast, and your choice of bacon or sausage. The french toast was thick brioche, and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside (perfect!), the bacon was really great, and even my scrambled eggs were seasoned really nicely! We'll be back again."

  • "The food was excellent, but not enjoyable if you have to scream across the table to have a conversation. After 9.30pm the music was turned up even louder."

  • "Visually, the space at Bakehouse is wonderful. It is both country-rustic, yet elegant at the same time, a bit like certain French country places. The "happy hour" $1 oysters are a good deal, although it is shocking that they don't have cocktail sauce to serve with the oysters. (The spicy vinaigrette they give you instead overpowers the oysters; we didn't use it.) My burger was very good; my wife's onion soup just okay. That's all we had, so our info is limited."

  • "It wasn't the waiter's fault! The kitchen was filling to go orders???? Filling take out orders before customers in the restaurant? I don't get it. Shouldn't take an hour to make eggs!"

  • "Was not sure exactly where this restaurant was but sure glad we found it! Brunch was delicious! Croque Madame, eggs, and baked goods, coffee, cocktails all fabulous. Space is great - AND our server was efficient and super friendly. I will definitely return."

  • "I went with a large group for a birthday dinner and it was great. The restaurant was very accommodating with seating us and the staff was lovely. We had a great view of the river and the food was delicious. Our drinks were a little slow to arrive but made well. I'll definitely go back again!"

  • "Food was outstanding! Steak tartare has a nice little kick of spice, which was great. I loved their use or Harissa in a lot of their dishes. Also had the ham and cheese croquettes, side of fries and a duck confit pizza. Loved it all, but the tartare was definitely the star of the show. For dessert, the banana bread pudding with brown sugar ice cream: HOLY. So good."

  • "Came here for dinner on Valentine's Day and loved it. The service was excellent, food was good and it had a nice and chill ambience to it. The early 90's hip hop music playing was also a plus!! Try the calamari as a starter for sure as well as the creme puffs for dessert! Would definitely come back here."

  • "I thought the food at Bakehouse was awesome; the service and ambiance, however, was lacking. Our server was incredibly nice, but, despite the fact that there were only 2-3 other groups at the nearly empty restaurant, our dinner took 3 hours from start to finish."

  • "Bakehouse was great! The food was delicious (I got the steak tartare, my friend got one of the pizzas and a side of brussels sprouts) and the wine was an average price for New York. The view was beautiful as well. It's a huge, lofty looking space that could definitely host large groups. Will absolutely be going back!"

  • "Yes, its a little out of the way, but the ambiance and quality dishes more than makeup for it. Great views of the river and westside."

  • "Hearty and tasty portions at reasonable prices. A bit too noisy for unstrained conversation. Plan to return in better weather, to combine the meal with a stroll by the river or on the High Line."

  • "Great table service, hot place at night, very great environment."

  • "I otdered the ricotta pancakes. They were served with a warm maple butter, strawberries and bananas. I had to wait for the maple syrup, but it wasn't long in coming. While the whole dish was very good, they were not as light as the ricotta pancakes I make. They tasted like regular pancakes. I was a bit disappointed with that; so while they were good pancakes, they weren't so good for ricotta pancakes."

  • "We went here for Sunday brunch and loved it! Service was excellent, the view of the water was perfect, and the food and drinks were amazing! I highly recommend the mimosas and the truffle oil omelet- it was the best omelet I have ever had."

  • "I have driven by so many times and I always said I have try that place out, but never did. One day I just decided to make a reservation for brunch, well I'm glad I did. I fell in love with the place. Staff was amazing and the place is huge but has such a warm atmosphere with gorgeous views. Menu selection was also outstanding! I just loved everything about it. You have to try this place / it's amazing!"

  • "I had a very nice time at the restaurant. The decor is warm and cozy, without being too over the top. The prices were moderate. The quality of food was solid. Nothing spectacular, but definitely way above average for sure! The wait staff seemed friendly and genuine. Would recommend it and will be coming back next time I'm in the area."

  • "We really enjoyed our dining experience at Bakehouse. They have a great team working at this restaurant. All were attentative, friendly and knowledgeable and the service from all was great. I would definitely visit again. The mac and cheese and roasted sprouts were cooked to perfection!"

  • "Delicious brunch with great choices! Service was just okay as we were left for some time, but will go back. Loved the exposed brick and atmosphere of bakehouse."

  • "Immediately loved the ambience-warm, cozy and farmhouse interior. We were seated against a wall even though we requested a windows table. Would have left if we could not move and after being able to switch our table were nothing but impressed with the restaurant/bakery. Our server was knowledgeable and gracious. Our food was amazing. From warm blue with honey, manchego croquettes and diver scallops the best I've had, to a great bottle of organic Cabernet, oysters and hand cut fries, our meal was amazing. We inquired about the bakery which was obviously not an evening gig, and were gifted with two scones on our way out the door. This gem is amidst residences on the west side, but worth the trip. We will be back,"
