Like it less and less each time except for the outside seating with the view."

  • "Got a last-minute Saturday night reservation for a party of 7. That should have been a clue to avoid this place. The appetizers were very good, but it went downhill after that. Apps were fresh steamed littleneck clams - very good. Fried calamari - tasty. Homemade hot biscuits for the table - delicious. After a very long wait, our entrees came, and they were all rather disappointing. Assorted types of fish were ordered and everything either tasted odd or was overcooked. Drinks were just okay - my cosmo tasted like straight vodka. A John Daly was made southern-style and not traditional per the menu. It's right on the water but underneath the bridge to Sandy Hook so, while pleasant, not tremendously scenic."

Our reservation was on a priority list (which I reconfirmed that day with the restaurant) and we waited no longer than a few minutes before we were seated in one of the the coveted window seats. Great view = Great time. Our food choices were all different and very good. Unfortunately service was slow that evening so everything took a little longer. Our waitress was very nice but I think she had too many table to manage. I would return again."

  • "This is a somewhat famous fish place. One would hope and expect that they would not overcook every piece of fish served. I got the broiled Fisherman's Platter (lobster tail, shrimp, scallops & pollock) - all overcooked, but fine doused in butter. My husband got the fried oysters, also overcooked, making them chewy. Service was friendly, but disappointed in the overcooked and overpriced food. We won't be back."

  • "We went to dinner at 8:30 in the evening. We sat outside, by the water, and it was beautiful. The waitstaff is well trained and very attentitve - updated us if there was a delay or when something was almost ready. The food was good, as always. My husband had the grouper, which had some type of balsamic dressing drizzled over it - the fish was great on it's own, the drizzle took away from it. We always enjoy our meals there and the weather was perfect!"

We were seated in a Friday evening at 5 without a wait after attending a HS graduation on Sandy Hook. The seafood was fresh, delicious, and well prepared. Wonderful view. Pricey but very appropriate for this special occasion."

  • "While the service was good at Bahrs, the food does not live up to the view. My wife's salmon was previously frozen and had pre-cooked grill marks. Salmon is known for its flavor - this was flavorless. Her horseradish sauce on the side was 99% mayonaisse. My "fresh" scallops appeared previously frozen, were overcooked, gummy and without flavor. Their tarter sauce is 99% mayonaisse -- no dill, pickle or anything to give it flavor. My daughter's fried shrimp were okay, if overcooked. The calimari appetizer was chewy. Brunch for 4 with 1 appetizer and 4 ice teas/soft drinks was $150 plus tip, which are New York prices with food no where near that value."

  • "Bahrs has a wonderful waterfront atmosphere. We had a great view from our window and the waitress was helpful and attentive. The prices, however, are much too high considering the small portions. Most main courses range between $26 and $35 at dinner which does not include a side salad. We ordered the swordfish which cost $29 and were surprised to see a very small piece of fish ( decent taste, but not outstanding) with equally small servings of potatoes and green beans. We split a salad, each of us had one beer and the main course. With tip we spent close to $100."

  • "We had a late notice of a visit from friends, and we made a quick reservation for Bahr's, knowing it was at least decent if they had room for us, which they did. All-in-all, better than expected. Everybody liked their food and drinks, except one in our party of four didn't like her Cosmopolitan. The place was packed but we managed to get a table within 10 minutes of our arrival with a good enough view of the bay and harbor, our waitress was amiable and energetic and accomodating even though I'm sure she was swamped, and we were able to carry on our conversations and hear each other and pretty much have our attention on enjoying being there. "

  • "My husband and I went for the first time the other night. We had soup, salad, apps and entrees. We really enjoyed the food, some of the best seafood we have had at the shore. The service could be better. Our waitress was really nice, however we wanted 10 mins before she came to the table and 40 mins for our entrees to come out. All and all we were there for 2.5 hours, which we didn't mind so much because we were just enjoying our date night. But 40 mins between apps and dinner was a little upsetting after a while. We will go back, because we really did like the food, but we probably won't go on a night when we are just looking for a quick bite to eat. "

  • "This was the worst food I have ever eaten. I had the seafood sampler, the shrimp, scallops and fish all tasted the same like cardboard. We also ordered lobster bisque which the waitress forgot to bring until after we had our main coarse. I love lobster bisque, well until I tried that one. To finish off the experience after getting home I experienced the worst stomach cramps ever. I want to thank Bahrs for giving me the most expensive laxatives I ever had but at least that worked. "

  • "The food and drinks were good but the service was extremely slow. We understand it was Mother's Day but the restaurant should of had a good idea of the crowd to expect by their reservation list and past experience. We only saw our waitress a few times during our stay. It could have been our waitress. We noticed that the waitresses serving the other tables around us were very active with their customers. We love the food and ambiance at this restaurant and will return. However, we will only go when we have time to wait for service. Sometimes it is enjoyable to have a leisurely meal but this experience was somewhat extreme. "

  • "I've been a customer since 1976 - there are many fond memories attached to this restaurant. It is the only place I go to for a lobster dinner. Classic seafaring decor - not fancy and you don't have to dress up. The food has always been consistently good, the staff very friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. My favorites? Steamers, Lobster and the finale of Peach Melba -- not to mention Oysters Rockefeller when available. Everything starts with baking soda biscuits and one of the better coleslaws you will experience. If you like yours stuffed with crab meat you will not be disappointed. The bar and wine list is extensive enough and there is sure to be something to everyone's liking. Enjoy!"
