  • "To SF's Curry Up Now, and boy was I wrong. You can't even compare them. Badmaashla offers a distinct and unique menu that satisfies and hits every note of your palate. I ordered their Spiced mango pork belly with a side of naan and Ghost chili lamb vindaloo for my friend. We were both impressed when they first came out. They weren't heaping portions at all---but their flavours did pack the punch that left us at the right about of full and satisfied. The wait time was reasonable---I mean, that's if you want quality food which is what Badmaashla delivers. I'd say keep up the great work. I'll definitely be coming back for seconds ;]"

  • "Despite the unfriendly reception by the hostess - we had a very early reservation as we were going to the theatre, she called when we were three minutes late and said they would only hold the table for another 7 minutes and then when we got there she said she couldn't seat us because all of our party was not present yet (the other couple was maybe five minutes away). This was within a restaurant that had one other table seated. She reluctantly seated us when we said we would order right away and order for our friends. She gave us the evil eye until we placed our order - of course our friends arrived before the food so all was ok with her I guess. When we left, two tables were seated. However, food is so great, and waiters are great!"

  • "On the verge of being too cool... It came from the attitude the hostess had. I guess being a hostess at a popular restaurant can go to your head?! Guess what .. your still a hostess.First when we arrived with a reservation she tries to sit us in a table between two massive party groups on the second floor it almost seemed like a private party up there it was crowded and loud plus with an empty first floor. My wife said no way and sat herself down on the first floor seating where we ussually sit. Our meal Was great we paid the check and left the restaurant. AGAIN the "too cool" hostess reappears and chases us down the street thinking we left without paying the bill! How about u check with your server first before you act foolish again."

  • "First of all, the only reason I chose this restaurant is because of the name. I have reviewed yelp and instagram to see what Badmaash is all about and it just looked amazing so I had to go there. Going there for the first time, my friend and I ordered Chicken Tikka Poutine, Butter Chicken Samosas, and Sheek Kabab. I would definitely go back for the Chicken Tikka Poutine and the Butter Chicken Samosas. Both my friend and I agreed that the Sheek Kabab tasted a bit strange as in it felt like something was missing. Other than that we had a great experience, the server was very enthusiastic and assisted us with giving us options and made sure we have a great first time experience. I loved the concept of the restaurant."

  • "This was our first visit so we decided to go more traditional "Indian" to set a benchmark. We started with the "Butter Chicken" samosas. They were beautifully seasoned and the fried shell was so very light. The homemade mango chutney complimented these samosas perfectly. Frankly, the freshest Saag Paneer we've ever had. Yummy! And the chicken Tikka Masala held it's own with a nice little kick to the flavor accompanied by the fresh baked naan. And to top it all off, we ended with the creative vanilla bean ice cream sandwiched between the world's best selling biscuits from India called Parle G. The entire staff was delightful, from the hostess, to our waiter, Jeff, to the owner Arjun. We'll will be back to explore more of the tempting menu."

  • "I just want to say Mediocre food, okay service and the WORST HOSTESS EVER WHO ACTUALLY IS A HORRIBLE HUNMAN BEING. I have been michelin starred restaurants around the world and have never met anyone who is so obnoxious and rude. Will never recommend this place to anyone and will definitely make it a point to make sure that every food critic I hang with to give this restaurant awful reviews. The owner needs to revamp his staff and hire people who are considerate because then the mediocre food and service can be forgiving when at least the people and the service is nice."

It was outrageously delicious and worth coming back for alone. I am looking forward to coming back so I can try more dishes.   • "There are some interesting fusion dishes and a unique menu. Everyone liked all 3 of the samosas. The quality of the lamb was excellent, very tender. Poutine Indian style was good for one person but you have to like poutine to ever order it. The downstairs is cramped even though there wasn't a table right next to us, we were surrounded by tables. I didn't like the height of the table. It wasn't very comfortable. Maybe the upstairs is quietier because the place isn't very big downstairs but it was so noisy we couldn't hear each other."

  • "this is definitely a one of a kind place. not only is the service great but so is the ambiance and the food. recommend sharing some plates if its your first time there.. and leave room for dessert!.. it will not disappoint. for a non-traditional indian place, the flavours hit the mark and the portions were perfect. For anyone looking to get some spice, go with the Lamb Vindaloo, but if you're intimidated by the ghost peppers, anything on the menu will do. And if you have any questions the staff is super helpful and knowledgeable about the food..just ask. Great place... i expect to be coming here again...hopefully more regularly since i'm just down the street."

In short, the food leaves you longing for more - and more being traditional Indian food (also the food is RIDICULOUSLY overpriced considering the portions; $16 for 5 pieces of tandoori shrimp... you're kidding me right?). The best tasting items were from their 'traditional' section of their menu, but it leaves something to be desired. The rest of their fusion items were mediocre at best.. Beef short rib samosas dry, pork belly just tastes like its been slathered in BBQ sauce, and Poutine is odd considering the heavy spices. Also - how is this considered a gastropub.. no beer on draft? Ambiance - 'Hipster' Service - decent"

This place did the trick and was in walking distance from my hotel. The staff was super nice. They played weird Bollywood films on the wall. Good times."

  • "Had pretty high expectations coming in to Badmaash; great website, branding, and many good reviews. However, my boyfriend and I were a bit disappointed, everything was "just okay." The short rib samosas were pretty good, and the poutine and mussels were alright. Mango lassis also tasted fine. The server was nice, and the place has a cool look to it. Just wasn't incredibly impressed like I thought I'd be."

  • "This is a casual and energetic gastropub with an "Indian influenced" menu. The location near other emerging hot spots in this part of DTLA makes this a great spot to fit into plans to see a small independent film screening just down the street or go upscale to the Edison speakeasy around the corner. Menu is a little short on things like salad or veggies but Indian entrees, lamb burger and coconut broth mussels are great choices. Their naan is excellent with various sauces available."

  • "The food was amazing for DineLA. The appetizer samosa and lentil soup were delicious, but the entrees! Oh, the entrees. That butter chicken over basmati rice was perfect, and the stewed pork belly and rump were spiced amazingly and so incredibly tender. As for the desserts, I'm not a huge fan of cardamom and carrots as sweets, but if that's you flavor palette, that's cool too. Unfortunately, our table was so uneven that it rocked back and forth every time one of us applied even the slightest pressure on it. The place was too booked for us to switch tables, so we just stuck it out. It didn't even matter in the slightest when the food came because we were too busy enjoying ourselves. Definitely coming back to try the Chicken Tikka Poutine :)"

One thing that stuck out to me is that they serve Thumbs Up and Limca...soft drinks that I find when I go back to India. Small touches like the drinks and the movies playing on the wall make the trip to this restaurant worth it."
