Select from crisp salads and hot soups, creative Small Plates, Perfect Burgers of hand formed Angus patties on house-baked rolls, popular sandwiches, and Big Plate comfort favorites. House-made desserts are a specialty. The antique mahogany bar soars 14 feet above the trendy zinc counter, and presides over northwest Connecticut's largest offering of craft-brewed beers. 24 brands are available on tap, with the bottle selection at more than 70. Diner Reviews
  • "All four in our party enjoyed our meals and the service was accommodating with order modifications."

  • "I haven't been at Backstage for dinner for at least a year. I think the quality of the food has improved as well as the service. Previously we were either rushed or waiting too long. A bit disappointed they were out of the risotto, but substitutions OK. Great and convenient before or after show dining experience. Comfortable spacing between tables. Our whole party had a great experience!"

  • "Second visit to this restaurant. Both were very good experiences. Both times we were seeing shows at the Warner. This restaurant definitely is the ideal location for dinner prior to the show. But I wouldn't wait until you're going to see a show - its a great any night of the week place to get a bite to eat or just sit at the bar."

  • "Service and ambience was great, they were out of my entree so I tried the mac n cheese; very tasty but for $17 overpriced. Excellent beer selections."

  • "A good choice before the theater. Burgers and salad. I don't think I would go there for a weekend dinner."

  • "I was pleasantly surprised by the very interesting menu and the beauty of the plating of the food. I had a roasted salmon with broccoli rabe and basmati rice...it was delicious! The host and server were both very energetic and professional. The offer a nice selection of locally procured products and are very reasonably priced. I will definitely be going back. Kudos to them for offering such a nice spot in Torrington."

  • "While we all had great dinners. There were 4 of us. Our waitress started out great and as she was given more tables she seemed to lose it. She disappeared and others had to help out. Finally the GM came up to our table at our request. We had him take care of the couple who were still waiting for their drinks. He did comp us for our desserts which was very nice of him. The other waiters and waitresses really stepped up to help all the diners in our section."

  • "Good food. Great service. Comfortable and lively atmosphere. Awesome selection of CRAFT BEER on tap and in bottles. Dined before a show at the Warner Theater. Nice dining experience."

  • "Food/wine selection and quality was good. Service was incredibly slow for such a light section. I would go back but not when I have another event to attend."

  • "The food was excellent. We drove an hour to see a show at the Warner theatre and decided to have brunch. All of the people in our party thoroughly enjoyed it.. We will definitely drive an hour just to eat at the restaurant."

  • "The Backstage is conveniently located in downton Torrington and is connected to the Warner Theater. The bar scene is nice but the food is average. Ive only been there two times, each time my main destination was the theater."

  • "A friend and I were immediately greeted and seated in a section near the window with a few tables. It's a quieter area-definitely quieter than the bar. The waitress was extremely friendly and got our drinks, wine and a white chocolate raspberry martini (absolutely delicious despite the fact that they ran out of the truffles that they give you with it (which I've had before and are luscious! The waitress offered ame a different martini when I asked where the truffle was but I declined!). We got 2 apps- a flatbread (yummy) and the pan seared mozzarella (amazing!) & split an entree of a pork sandwich & sweet potato fries (with a sweet and tasty dip) which they would put on separate plates. Prices are very reasonable. Love this place!"

  • "We went to Backstage for the first time in a party of six. Everyone enjoyed the delicious food and great atmosphere. We have already recommended it to friends and family and will definitely be back."

  • "We arrived late due to traffic, with a curtain to make. I've never had a place go so all-out to make sure we not only made our curtain, but had plenty of time to enjoy our meal as well. After the concert, we stopped back for another beer and the joint was jumping', with lively music and a great crowd. This is definitely a place to visit again any time I'm near Torrington!"

  • "Overall our experience was good. We arrived a few minutes early with 2 extra people and they took us right to a table. Our order was placed in a timely manner and we even explained to the waiter that we were going to the 8:00pm show next door. He said it wouldn't be a problem, we had plenty of time. Unfortunately, the food took forever to arrive! We ordered at 7:00 but the food didn't arrive until 7:45. That gave us 15 minutes to literally inhale our dinner. It wasn't the waiters fault, he was very apologetic about the backup in the kitchen. He even brought the manager over. Next time we will be sure to reserve even earlier."

  • "They were informed via the reservation and we mentioned it more than once...They did not say or do anything special for the birthday occasion"

  • "Our server -- Todd, was excellent, helping us navigate the extensive beer list and menu. Friendly atmosphere. Attentive staff. Terrific beer. Food came fast but we never felt rushed. We shared many items (so much to try!) -- they double-plated for us without being asked. The menu would please foodies and traditional bar clientele, alike. Everything was fresh and delicious, from a complex burger with brie and apple butter, right down to a simply perfect cup of coffee. Customers from 21-65; everyone seemed happy. We had a booth; it wasn't quiet (it's a bar), but we had no problem enjoying private conversation. Good vibe. Plan to return with or without a show to attend! Very reasonable, too."

  • "We went to Backstage as it is next door to the Warner Theater so you can park, eat and walk to the show. We only had a sandwich, but we really liked the menu and would come back. We weren't happy with our vodka gimlets ( too much lime ...) and as very busy as it was our waitress fixed them."

  • "Came for dinner before show and the restaurant was very busy - there were no open tables. We were greeted promptly and brought to a nice booth. Our host was very pleasant as was our server. They both reviewed the menu items as well as drink specials. Apps were awesome as was our meal. We didn't have room for dessert but got it anyway. It was a very enjoyable experience. We came in after the show for drinks. Can't wait to go back."

  • "Our group wanted to give a fun send off to a colleague. We could not all come at the same time, so some folks came as time allowed. Our host was very accomodating in seating us and keeping this very flexible party going. We all had a great time and will come back in the future."

  • "Backstage is a great place to go for great food and drinks. They are very conscious of bringing in locally grown/produced foods as well."

  • "We frequent this fantastic beer bar for the selection of 40 taps and the great food. On this visit we had several guests who may not have ordered their tuna steak burgers correctly to receive the level of cooking they desired. All it took was a slightly disappointed look on their faces and the server was offering to have them redone. He ran off to the kitchen to order replacement sandwiches "Seared" and was back in less than 10 minutes with beautiful tuna steak burgers. Shortly after that another restaurant representative (perhaps the manager) checked with them to be sure they were happy. The level of service was above and beyond what was required and it was very much appreciated."

  • "Our recent dinner at Backstage was exactly what we were hoping for -- very good food, and a very extensive selection of terrific beers (on tap and in bottles), with friendly service in a casual atmosphere. We are always pleasantly surprised at how consistently good the food is here -- in fact, we don't think there's a better place to dine in downtown Torrington. The menu is far more interesting than one might expect to find at a place that gives off a local pub vibe on first impression, and the food is fresh and delicious. The location is perfect for anyone attending a show at the Warner Theater next door -- but this place is worth a visit at any time. We've been here for lunch, brunch, and dinner, and we always come away fully satisfied."

  • "I've been to Backstage before and I haven't been disappointed yet. They have an extensive beer menu in addition to a season beer menu. Their food is always fresh and well presented. I would come back again and again and recommend it to friends."

  • "There is great diversity and consistency of quality with the food at backstage. They have solid offerings of pub fare with the addition of some more nuanced and international cuisine. The pumpkin ravioli was as excellent as the burger, corn beef Ruben, and salads. My chidren love the dumpling appetiser served in little steamer baskets and the french fries served in mini fryer baskets. The beer and cocktail. hoices are always good and the wine list is decent."

  • "We enjoy this restaurant because the service is unfailingly gracious and accommodating, and the food is good."

  • "Since the Warner Theater is right next door, it is a great place to eat before a show. I had hangar steak that was delicious and another person in our party had the diver scallops and raved about them. The Smores pie was a generous serving so we could all share."
    Dined on 11/30/2013
  • "Pros: nice decor, attentive staff, great selection of food and drinks Cons: it took a while for our meals to come out, but we did have 8 people in our group, seemed a bit pricey for the food Overall, a great addition to town. I'm happy to have a good dining option that isn't a chain when I'm visiting my parents."
    Dined on 11/29/2013
  • "We were greeted and seated very quickly and the food was delicious, however we had tickets to see a show and our waitress had us wait 30 minutes before even taking our order. By the time our food came out we had approximately 7 minutes to eat our food. Because we were rushed I feel we didn't get to truly enjoy our meal."
    Dined on 11/23/2013
  • "The food here again was excellent. My sister and I shared a fried mozzarella appetizer which was very light and delicate and delish! My sister had the BBQ pork sandwich, which she loved. I had the meat loaf. I had a craving for comfort food and this meat loaf was tremendous. The meat loaf had a beautiful crunchy edge with their home made catsup. OH YUM. Now, all that said, our waitress was very frazzled and had a hard time getting back to us when we had to leave. I would still go back here, but don't have a time limit. if you are going to a show at the Warner, make an early reservation."

  • "We've been to Backstage about a dozen times and have always gone away happy. It's great for a before the show meal or an after the show coffee and. Burger platters are always great and last night, before going to the Warner for Fiddler On The Roof, I had the best steak ever. LOOKING FORWARD TO OUR VISIT."

  • "Our server was fantastic and upbeat the whole time. The food was decent but a couple dishes were missing salt. Overall a great time as always! Best part was the live band which my 2 year old son danced with for a few songs"

  • "The food was excellent. I asked the waitress what she would recommend. She said that she had eaten there the previous night with her family and recommended the filet medallions. She also went on to say that the menu was what they had served the previous week for a food competition in Connecticut. Two of our party had the filet and the other person had the Chilean Sea Bass. Everything was excellent. I have never been disappointed in the food at Backstage. We normally eat lunch there and their vegetarian wraps are very tasty. The service was excellent. Even when they are real busy - the service is always good."

  • "My first dining experience was excellent. The lobster appetizer was very tasty. My 3 courses were very delicious, I have already recommended to two friends. Will definitely be back to try the other delicacies on the menu."

  • "Absolutely everything was amazing from the food to the cocktails to the service. Lobster & sweet corn chowder was excellent. The proprietary drinks, as well as the beer & wine list, were fantastic. Small plates as appetizers or entrees with a salad or soup are sufficient for a meal. The filet was one of the best cuts I've ever had, cooked exactly as I ordered it. Our server, Nichole, was exceptional and not overbearing. Great for a meal before a show at the Warner or a special occasion/date night."
