Diner Reviews
  • "We had not been to the Back Burner in quite some time because the last time we were there we had a terrible experience. We were never provided the "let us make it up to you" certificate that was promised. Since so much time had gone by, we thought we might give it another try. Our experience this time was much better. Both of us had the salad, which was good. The nuts were a bit spicy for me, but my husband loved them. We both ordered the smaller portions for dinner and they were fine. The service was much better this time. The only thing on the more negative side is that there are very few wine by the glass choices - one for most categories and two chardonnays."

  • "We love the Back Burner To Go, but we were very unimpressed with the restaurant itself. The server was nice enough and the prices were not outrageous, but the food was bland or just not good. The stuffed mushrooms had a very strong taste of lemon that, I suppose, some people might like, but we thought it a complete waste of mushrooms and crab meat. We will not be going back."

  • "We were impressed with our first visit in January so made a point of returning when in the area. Surf and turf special was very good and reasonably priced. Steak cooked to perfect order. Staff always very attentive and friendly. Appreciate the offering of two-sized portions for entrees; the smaller size is just the perfect amount of food, more than adequate."

  • "dinner was delicious as it always is at the back burner. The beer selection is ok they do have seasonal beverages nightly specials during the week are highly recommended the surf and turf was excellent.the grilled calamari had an excellent flavor and the texture was perfect.I have found it difficult to find grilled calamari anywhere most places serve it fried I highly recommend trying it grilled if you have not."

  • "Patti is the best! We like to sit in the bar area for a more relaxed night with delicious food. The garlic clams are always good. The octopus carpaccio was a nice twist."

  • "We have been coming back to the Burner because of two things. Your chef and Patti. First the food; the menu is diverse, foodie-enhanced and just well prepared. Nicely done!! Secondly, Patti is a real gem in the bar area. She is efficient, energized and fun in a restaurant that was not.. Nice going whoever is making the changes.."

  • "The appetizers,i.e. soups, salads - excellent - the entrees left something to be desired - was disappointed. Sorry."

  • "7:15 reservation and they were out of their special--prime rib. NY strip steak was mentioned as an alternative, and, since it wasn't on the menu, we assumed the steaks would be the same price. They were priced at 150% of the prime rib. We didnt know that until the meal was over. What we did know was the steaks were huge, boneless, and topped with a great sauce, but the meat was terrible. The sinew was unlike ANY NY strip steak I have ever eaten. In fact, I honestly doubt that it was, in fact, NY strip steak. It made the steak difficult to chew, and I can't say the texture reminded me of fresh NY strip steak, either. This was our first timee there, and not knowing whether this experience was common, we chose not to complain. "

  • "We went for a dinner for a special occasion on the recommendation of friends, and we were not impressed with the service level or food quality. There was a prime rib special the night we went which my wife ordered, and it looked like it was cooked on the flat grill. A cut off the roast or charbroiled would have been preferred for the 'quality' of this restaurant. The Rock Bass was delicious, as with the sides and dessert. The bar was poorly stocked with what we would consider reasonable Burbons to have on the high end. We are new in the area and were hoping for a quality dinner in a relaxed atmosphere. We will keep looking, I'm sure we can find better for the price."

  • "We really enjoyed the ambience and my 2 guests each had a quiche which they thoroughly enjoyed. I had the fish & chips which was really good. The ice-cream or dessert was outstanding."

  • "A recent brunch for Mother's Day proved a pleasant experience. Excellent service, food was delicious. My only criticism is that the menu was quite limited with very few offerings."

  • "Our son blessed me with a Mother's Day gift card to the Back Burner. My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful Mother's Day brunch at the restaurant including great food and service!"
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "Foot was great as usual. A crying baby at a nearby table interrupted our conversation several times, but it was Mother's Day so what are you going to do?"
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "Back Burner has moved to the cheap, trusting it would go un-noticed. But it was not un-noticed. Years past (4 for me) every mother was presented with a rose, there was a complimentary alcoholic beverage for all adults, and a desert bar after brunch. This year Back Burner eliminated all three of the above. Result: this was just a brunch, and not a 'special' Mother's Day brunch. Conclusion: 'peney wise and pound foolish' will cost Back Burner return customers."

  • "Comfortable seating. Server was very attentive, food very good"
    Dined on 5/9/2014
  • "The decor was nice, except for the chairs in the dining room were extremely outdated and must be removed. Also the lighting was much to bright and made the atmosphere pretty odd. Changing both of These things would have made the experience much more intimate."

  • "Different kind of restaurant & bar, in a good way. Staff is friendly, table layout is spacious, and menu has a nice mix of different dishes. Fod was very good and prices reasonable with an option for a small or large portion "

  • "Great restaurant. The food is always good. The pumpkin mushroom soup is unique and outstanding, as are the rolls. We always enjoy eating at the Back Burner."

  • "We had read about this nice restaurant in a charming setting. That it was though we did have a little trouble finding it at first. The ambiance was very inviting and our server, Darlene, very friendly and attentive. The short ribs were excellent and the pumpkin mushroom soup very tasty. The bacon wrapped filet was a little more done than the medium rare I had ordered so it missed in that regard. Our experience otherwise was quite positive and we would not hesitate to return the next time we're in the area."

  • "We felt as though the entire staff was there to serve us. The restaurant was crowded, but everyone who was working there made sure to stop by our table & wish us well."

  • "The food at Back Burner was excellent. The prices were reasonable; plus, you could choose to have a smaller portion of an entrée at a reduced price. We will certainly go back."

  • "Found this by chance on opentable. Needed a dinner reserv while in area to see Longwood Gardens. It was great! I recommend crabcake and shortrib. Delicious. And service was excellent. (Hostess could have been friendlier, but once seated, good experience. We did not like first table so hostess a bit miffed at us. Not professional). Excellent food."

  • "OpenTable provide some new choices near our home Kennett Square….The Back Burner, 12 minutes away, so off we went. We now a have another place that’s close for enjoying a night out. Staff was attentive and friendly while not being overbearing. Wednesday is surf & turf with special pricing…we almost never get surf and turf...WOW, so glad we did….great piece of filet with a small wrap of beacon then surprisingly not a lobster tail but a fabulous crab cake, absolutely no fillers! The octopus appetizer was awesome, both desserts were above average. Only slight downside was we would have liked to see the bottle of Red kept in a cooler location, it was too warm. The Tavern menu and other nightly specials will bring us back for sure."

  • "What a pleasant surprise right in our own backyard! This restaurant has a bright modern vibe with amazing food. From the drinks to the entree to the dessert, all was thoughtful and delicious. The menu is not huge but the options are diverse. Instead of driving into philly for a trendy restaurant experience, I recommend giving Back Burner a try."

  • "The food was fantastic. I had salmon with a pumpkin risotto and my fiance had a petite filet. It was nice to see that smaller portion sizes were offered for most entrees. I highly recommend the creme brulee for dessert."

  • "I haven't been to this restaurant prior to this occasion, or even heard of it. I found it on open table for a last minute Valentines Day reservation, and after reading the reviews decided to try it. They had a special menue for V-day so I can't speak for the regular menue, but everything looked delicious. We each ended up getting the surf and turf and it was exceptionally delicious! The filet was so tender and cooked just right, and the lobster tail was the best I've had which actually surprised me. I had the blackberry martini upon a recommendation in a review I had read and loved it so much I ordered another. Service was great, ambiance was perfect for a romantic dinner. Overall highly recommended, will be going back!"
