  • "We had a great lunch here. We had two of the specials, a gnocchi and a salmons dish and they were both delicious. Wait staff was perfect. Highly recommend this for a nice lunch spot."

  • "Great restaurant. The food is always good. The pumpkin mushroom soup is unique and outstanding, as are the rolls. We always enjoy eating at the Back Burner."

  • "We had read about this nice restaurant in a charming setting. That it was though we did have a little trouble finding it at first. The ambiance was very inviting and our server, Darlene, very friendly and attentive. The short ribs were excellent and the pumpkin mushroom soup very tasty. The bacon wrapped filet was a little more done than the medium rare I had ordered so it missed in that regard. Our experience otherwise was quite positive and we would not hesitate to return the next time we're in the area."

  • "We felt as though the entire staff was there to serve us. The restaurant was crowded, but everyone who was working there made sure to stop by our table & wish us well."

  • "The food at Back Burner was excellent. The prices were reasonable; plus, you could choose to have a smaller portion of an entrée at a reduced price. We will certainly go back."

  • "Very nice place. Love the interior and the staff is very friendly. Food is also very good! I will definitely be back."

  • "What a pleasant surprise right in our own backyard! This restaurant has a bright modern vibe with amazing food. From the drinks to the entree to the dessert, all was thoughtful and delicious. The menu is not huge but the options are diverse. Instead of driving into philly for a trendy restaurant experience, I recommend giving Back Burner a try."

  • "Found this by chance on opentable. Needed a dinner reserv while in area to see Longwood Gardens. It was great! I recommend crabcake and shortrib. Delicious. And service was excellent. (Hostess could have been friendlier, but once seated, good experience. We did not like first table so hostess a bit miffed at us. Not professional). Excellent food."

  • "Great service, terrific Martini (s), good meal. Recommend if you need a lite fare, affordable, with great service."

  • "I haven't been to this restaurant prior to this occasion, or even heard of it. I found it on open table for a last minute Valentines Day reservation, and after reading the reviews decided to try it. They had a special menue for V-day so I can't speak for the regular menue, but everything looked delicious. We each ended up getting the surf and turf and it was exceptionally delicious! The filet was so tender and cooked just right, and the lobster tail was the best I've had which actually surprised me. I had the blackberry martini upon a recommendation in a review I had read and loved it so much I ordered another. Service was great, ambiance was perfect for a romantic dinner. Overall highly recommended, will be going back!"

  • "OpenTable provide some new choices near our home Kennett Square….The Back Burner, 12 minutes away, so off we went. We now a have another place that’s close for enjoying a night out. Staff was attentive and friendly while not being overbearing. Wednesday is surf & turf with special pricing…we almost never get surf and turf...WOW, so glad we did….great piece of filet with a small wrap of beacon then surprisingly not a lobster tail but a fabulous crab cake, absolutely no fillers! The octopus appetizer was awesome, both desserts were above average. Only slight downside was we would have liked to see the bottle of Red kept in a cooler location, it was too warm. The Tavern menu and other nightly specials will bring us back for sure."

  • "The food was fantastic. I had salmon with a pumpkin risotto and my fiance had a petite filet. It was nice to see that smaller portion sizes were offered for most entrees. I highly recommend the creme brulee for dessert."

  • "The Valentine's Day menu was excellent, as was our service at the bar and at our table. Courteous staff, tasty cocktails, and really cool nightly specials that we'll be back to try soon!"

  • "I work in restaurants and have for 19 years. So it is sometimes hard to enjoy myself when I go out. My fiancé and I enjoyed ourselves emmensely. From the drinks to the service we were able to sit back and relax. Our server, Lauren was excellent!!"

  • "Such a quaint place with a very warm ambiance. The food was really good, including the oysters which were nicely prepared and served ice cold. Our waitress was delightful and very pleasant. I will certainly be back for $1 oyster night. The cocktails were also very good."

  • "Staff flawlessly presented delicious dessert with birthday candle after dinner entree as requested in celebration of my husband's birthday."
    Dined on 2/4/2014
  • "Have visited many times and was pleasantly surprised to see that the menu has changed to include more appetizer choices and two portion sizes of many entrees. This makes it possible to visit more often rather than only going for a special occasion."

  • "So rare to find a restaurant that's not so loud you can't converse! It was an all around pleasurable experience."

  • "Restaurants come and go, but the Back Burner continues to withstand the test of time and rightly so. Fantastic dinner!"

  • "Overpriced, competent but unremarkable. Wine list is not exceptional for value or variety."

  • "A lovely gem of a restaurant with a limited but delicious menu. Service was a little slow, however, the food was worth the wait."

  • "Our server was very good. She was there when we needed her, the courses were delivered at the right pace, and she was pleasant without being too gabby. I would especially recommend the blackberry martini, everyone in the group had one and loved it."

  • "We had been looking forward to the new menu but went at New Years and got a special menu which was limited to large not small plates. So we went back again a few nights ago. Food was good but the ambiance just seemed "cold" and uninviting-- not a party atmosphere. I can't pinpoint why nor can my wife. The waitress was not all that serious; would have liked to see a medium priced Chardonnay along with the William Hill (lower priced) and the higher priced which we found no better at $11/glass than the William Hill. Maybe the management can see a way to "lighten up" the place. We had gone to the Back Burner many times years ago and don't remember the ambiance issue. Maybe it's just our age!!!"

  • "Enjoyed the whole dining experience. Like the menu smaller size portion options for all entrée s. Enjoyed the fire side dining room also. Great service and food presentation."

  • "I live nearby and love stopping in here for a drink at the bar. The fireplace is awesome. The place just has a great vibe!"

  • "The salmon and mahi were very good, as were the crab chowder and pumpkin mushroom soup. The food arrived to the table hot and the chef's presentation was good. We arrived 5 minutes early for our reservation. We were greeted and seated. The bus person poured water. Several staff personnel passed by our table and not one of them asked us for a drink order. I waited for 35 minutes before I got up from the table and walked to the front desk and asked for a server. The server arrived and was apologetic. The server read specials from a card and pronounced several words incorrectly. She was unable to answer questions regarding drinks. Finally, the server made a big mistake with our bill because she did not listen to our request."

  • "Food was nothing to write home about. I had the lobster mac and cheese which had very little lobster and taste. My wife had scallops. There were only three small ones. This is not the Back Burner I remember from years ago."

  • "We have had lunch here on Friday before Xmas for the past 5 years-and it will be the last. I booked through OpenTable more than a month before. I requested a specific table as in prior years. I was called 3 days before our reservation saying that table was not available but they would have an equally nice table. When we arrived, we were given a horrible table off to the side of the bar, shoved against the wall. Was told no other tables available. I said reservation was made a month before & expected better. Told it was a busy time. Our table did not even have tablecloth or linen napkins. Service was slow (probably since we were shoved to the side). At least the food was acceptable. But overall, horrible client service experience!"

  • "Depending on what staff are helping you, the service is not always up to par for the Back Burner's reputation. Recent dining experience was not as good as before- despite advanced reservations the host tried to seat us in the least desirable location and had no place for us to hang our coats. Server was OK but didnt really offer any menu highlights. Food was so-so with too much emphasis on making the dish distinctive than basic good taste was lost. Desert was unimpressive from a taste/preparation point of view."
    Dined on 12/31/2013
  • "Even though I had made a reservation through you, when we got to the restaurant, they did not have it. They did seat us anyway."

  • "Our dining out group chose the Back Burner for it's Christmas dinner and was not dissapointed. We requested, and received a round table and from its location, we could see the preparation of the food. A good night was had by all."

  • "We loved the new menu which was much less expensive and offered a range of choices from sandwiches to dinner entrees. We also appreciated the option to get smaller plates of Most offerings. The experience was a pleasant surprise. An older, established restaurant has reinvented itself. And the food was very good."

  • "Waitress was aloof, one might even say had a bit of dementia going on. Couldn't give a description of any if the dishes and when asked for one she would just read exactly what was written on menu. Food was mediocre at best. I have had better at a Ruby Tuesday's. Used to be a special place to go, but now just another run of the mill eatery. So sad ! Food and sauces were almost unidentifiable. Will not return, and neither should anybody else."

  • "This is a very nice place with plenty of parking and great ambience inside. I have eaten here before and thought the food was very good however I found it just OK this time. The service was excellent and friendly. I will go again and hope for the kind of meal I am used to getting there."

  • "Last minute find on the Internet after original plans changed. Food was spectacular. Fillet was as good as it gets. Waitress was very sweet and we had fun talking with her. The restaurant owner needs to put a crowbar in his wallet and get some new carpet. .. chairs...etc. But the food is really outstanding! :):):):)"
