Diner Reviews
  • "Fried chicken was very good, as was the sea bass special. Prompt and friendly wait staff. Manager stopped by to check in with us."

  • "We were stuck in Red Sox traffic, I called to say we were on our way. Very professional response, no problem thank you for calling, we arrived 10 minutes late, got our table and the fun started! From the waiter to talking to folks siting near us not one complaint! Food AMAZING! Can't wait to come back!"

  • "the place looks great! the crowd is an eclectic blend of the south end/back bay neighborhood. more or less upscale comfort food, pretty tasty at a reasonable, for this area, price. our server was excellent. we tried 2 dishes-- the fried chicken and the ribs. chicken was excellent. ribs just ok...a bit dry and didnt care for the corn and cheese crumbled on top of it. our salad was big enough to share. will come back."

  • "Per Chef Jason Santos' recommendation when Back Bay Harry's was featured on Chronicle, I ordered the fried chicken entree, their signature dish. The chicken's batter is incredible: slightly sweet & savory w/ a lot of complex flavor. Portion size was generous, price was reasonable, and the fried chicken was served atop creamy mashed potatoes, sauteed spinach with a side of home-made plain donuts dusted with sugar and cinnamon. I also had the Caesar salad, which was delicious. I loved the breaded & fried poached egg. Again, generous portion size and reasonable price. My first trip to BBH, I ordered the meatloaf wellington and brussel sprout salad. They were ok, but I preferred the fried chicken and Ceaser. I hear the burger is great too."

  • "Wonderful lively energy! Good location. Very friendly service - friendly and efficient. I had scallops, hubby had hamburger, and at our waiter's suggestion we split huge green salad. Wine generous portion. Altogether a very positive experience."

  • "We had a great time there 4th time there every thing was GREAT"

  • "First, make sure you order the onion rings--they're amazing. Great value, interesting appetizers, food is well-prepared. Service is exceptionally good for a moderately-priced restaurant. I"d like to see a broader selection of wines by the glass, but that's a minor quibble. I'd choose this place over some of the more expensive places nearby."

  • "Had a great time at BBH's to begin our St. Paddy's weekend fun. Jason's team has again put together a great formula of outstanding food and atmosphere. It does have more of a bar feel than a restaurant feel, but the retro design is comforting and nostalgic. My only complaint is some of the tables are VERY close to each other, particularly in the back corner, where you need to have a model's figure to manuever to and from your table. Minor inconvenience, as once you get to the table the magic happens. ...but, what is a major inconvenience depending on your urgency is the "one-hole" bathrooms. Not cool at all, and there was always a line of 5-10 minutes."

  • "but stay away from the rest of the menu. 2 out of 4 dinners had the buttermilk chicken which was delicious. My baby back ribs were too big to be baby back and dry. Sword fish came out dry although it was ordered medium-rare. Waitress never said "hello' or introduced herself. She just asked if we wanted drinks. Has the personality of concrete."

  • "Fun place, great vibe, big active friendly bar, casual dining, comfort food, salads should definitely be shared unless eaten as a main course. I live in the area, been before and definitely would go again."

  • "This was a delightful surprise for a business lunch. The service was excellent and we sat near the back so as to have an easier opportunity to chat. The menu selections were grey and the grilled veggie baguette I had was way beyond the same old sandwich choice!"
    Dined on 3/11/2014
  • "Although the service was outstanding, the food was just so so. Not impressed. The pastrami mac and cheese came out with no cheese, burnt and was way too hot that I couldn't even touch it for 10 min. Would not order that dish again."

  • "Delicious Sunday brunch. It was quiet around 1pm, with maybe about 10-15 parties spread around throughout the restaurant. Food was very good (I had the Boneless Buttermilk Fried Chicken; dining companion had the Meatloaf & Eggs), and there were several additional items on the menu we wanted to try, so we'll definitely be back again."

  • "Went for Sunday Brunch. Menu is good, with enough selections to satisfy a lot of tastes. Prices are reasonable. Great find."

  • "Decided to give this refurbished restaurant a try despite negative feedback. Unfortunately, it is all true: food was subpart, some staff had attitude, drinks were micro sized, wine was not the greatest! Must say that the manager was a sweetheart and did try to compensate for a minor attitude issue with a boss boy- which we didn't accept! My recommendation: try it, probably better as a place for happy hour; new remodeling is better than Geoffrey's which is the restaurant that was there before BBH."

  • "Ultimately this was disappointing experience. Fried chicken definitely signature dish, but steak was tough and flavorless. Felt like service was impersonal and eager to turn table over. Not a restaurant for date night. Sorry Harry!"

  • "I was extremely disappointed in this restaurant. First the special occasion Oscar Watch did not take place without any notice. The food was the worst I have experienced in Boston. I ordered the house smoked salmon which was dry and tasteless and came with soggy grilled bread. The chinese barbecue pork sliders tasted like they were cooked in ketchup. The sichuan style calamari had no style at all. The only thing that remotely tasted ok was the fried fish taco. I brought a friend who was visiting from Chicago and I was a little embarassed that I picked this place out if all the wondeful restaurants available in Boston. I will not be going back."

  • "Friendly for the greeting at the do to the end when we were leaving! Wonderful wait staff. Food is fantastic, and for a good price! I keep telling people to go , and they agree!"

  • "Casual and comfortable bar with creative comfort foods that we will definitely be back for. We started with the calamari, then shared the butter milk chicken with honey donuts which should been considered dinner and dessert within itself but ultimately ended with the maple pecan cheesecake which was delicious. Good was wonderful and bar staff superb Loved everything about it"

  • "We were a group of 9, though our original reservation was for 6. They did accommodate us and we had our own room in the back. We shared it with a basketball team, which was very fun and entertaining. All was great until the server spilled the juice from my chicken dish all in my lap. If we hadn't been such a large group I would have said something, but I let it go and ran to restroom to wash my pants. Hopefully cleaners can get it out. UGH!"

  • "Food spectacular! Pastrami Mac and Cheese a must-try...good portion, shareable. Meatloaf Wellington like putting lipstick on a pig but damn was it tasty...comfort food wrapped in elegance with sides that complemented the star of the plate. Perfect pan-seared sea scallops, with a tasty angel-hair pasta, but served with crushed peas that offered little to the plate. Maple pecan cheesecake and chocolate mousse cake beyond-words delicious. Service seemed spotty. 5:30 PM reservations on Presidents Day; house less than a quarter full. Drinks arrived quickly. Starter seemed like it took forever. Bread arrived when the starter did. Entrees arrived when expected. We had to prod a little to get a desert menu. We will be back, though."

  • "So glad you are here, Harry's. We were longtime neighbors and frequent flyers at Geoffrey's and you did not disappoint us! You simply turned everything up a notch without turning up the expense. Great job! You will see us again! And again...."

  • "I first saw Back Bay Harry's featured on a local Boston TV show, so I though I would give it a try. Great food and wine list and beer selection."

  • "We loved sitting at the bar for dinner watching the Olympics. My wife and I usually seek out bar seats for dinner. It felt open with the big window looking out to the street from out bar seats and the TVs were great along with dinner and service. We will be back Ps. Easy access too and we like the valet service. Upon exotic it's a straight shot down Berkely to stir row drive to the express way. Easy in easy out easy parking."

  • "Saw back bay Harry's featured on Chronicle and was interested in trying it. I was surprised that there was no problem getting a table for 4 on a Sat. night, a week out. Well the table turned out to be in the bar, not the dining area, and for 4 people it was a small table. I was told if I wanted a table in the dining area I should have special requested it. Really?? So I was disappointed with where we were seated but the evening improved from there. We had a great waiter who was able to answer most of our questions. He explained all the unknown ingredients in the cocktails that were really good. I tried the boneless fried chicken for dinner which was delicious but my husband was not as happy with his meatloaf wellington."

  • "I learned about Back Bay Harry's on recent episode of Chronicle. I must say it is now one of my favorites spots in Boston. Loved the atmosphere, food is exceptional, and the service is top notch. Nice job with the bar. I love how big it is!!!! I plan to return soon."

  • "I have had quite a few meals here and things are improving. The food has been consistently good in my opinion, with some dishes more of a stand out than others. The chicken and the swordfish are both really great entrees. The pork sliders are also great as is the brussels sprouts salad (if you are ok with gorgonzola). The service was really poor when this place first opened and it has definitely improved, although the server forgot to put in our salad, so it never came. I always wonder and worry a bit when servers don't write things down and do everything from memory. Not sure whey a place of this size only has a single person bathroom. At 9:15pm I had to wait in a line of 3 people. What is this place like when it is busy?"
    Dined on 2/6/2014
  • "I have been to Harry's a few times since it opened. Sadly I keep retuning because the location is easy and they always have reservation spots available. I really wanted this to become a great addition to the city but sadly it isn't."

  • "I guess it was Okay, more for the 25's - 40 group. We're in our late 50's, Loud and not a place for a Romantic Dinner."

  • "Food was good. The kitchen was busy that night so everything was slow coming out. Brought out the wrong dinner for my husband so he had to wait while I ate mine. They were very embarrassed and compensated for it by a free desert. Other then that we would go back again.i had the fried chicken entree which was good but a little luke warm."

  • "Staff 5 stars Excellent addion to area Lunch was very good Can't wait to return for dinner"

  • "The service was disappointing. It took 45+ minutes for our grilled chicken sandwich and burger to arrive. It wasn't busy, it just appeared that no one really cared that we were there. This was my second visit to this incarnation of a restaurant in this space and probably my last (Geoffrey's, Laurel and even Blue Wave in the same space were all better)"
    Dined on 1/22/2014
  • "We were there early and found the servers very friendly and helpful. The soup and salad were especially good."

  • "My girlfriend and I ate here, the third incarnation of Jason Santos, and I have to say I wasn't disappointed at all. As new parents it's not often we are able to get out with out our son. We chose this place because we have eaten at all of his restaurants and have enjoyed them. The service was on point from the selection of water all the way through to desert. The main course was as delicious as it was aesthetically pleasing. I have the steak and my girlfriend had fried chicken. Steak was cooked perfectly and served on a slab of stone, I though it was pretty neat."

  • "Good food, service and overall great experience. This space needed a makeover from the last place that was there. Harry's is nicely decorated and not over the top, like in the past. Great date spot or drinks at the bar. A-"
