  • "What a great surprise. While visiting San Francisco we wanted to see Noe Valley and stumbled into this place, wow we're we glad. My girlfriend is gluten free so finding a great place with more than salad can be tough, but this place was perfect. Not only were they extremely knowledgable but this was the most perfectly cooked gluten free pasta I've ever had. Can't recommend the rigatoni enough, and the panda cotta was great too. Rafael was our server, and never have I had such an engaged server who cared about us, our experience, and keeping us entertained."

  • "We were staying in Noe Valley and tried Bacco Ristorante. The neighborhood is cute, and the staff was friendly and attentive. We had panzanella (bread salad) and bacala (cod) appetizers. Both were good. My entree was a game hen, which I enjoyed. My husband had lasagna bechamel and it was a large portion and good. There was definitely no room for dessert. Two points: the food came out of the kitchen a little too quickly; I would have preferred a more leisurely pace. Also, the noise level was fine when we arrived at 7:15 p.m., but as the restaurant filled up, it got very loud."

  • "We have been to Bacco Ristorante 5 or 6 times and have never been disappointed. That is why we return even though we live in the Richmond District. We can also find parking nearby, which is SF should be among the choices along with food, service etc.. We would recommend it unequivocally. We don't go out that often because the food and ambience at home is superior to what we get anywhere else, regardless of $. But to give the home chef and home waiter a break, we go out occasionally and Bacco is a great choice."

  • "I had originally made reservations at another restaurant, but when our party increased in size the restaurant couldn't accommodate us. Try finding a restaurant on a Saturday @ 4:30 for 8 people! We were so lucky to come across Bacco. The food was unbelievable! The grilled calamari was cooked to perfection. The veal saltimbocca was tender, moist so flavorful. The ink pasta and calamari was spicy & delicious. Everyone was so happy with their dinner. Service was a little slow, but we didn't mind."

  • "The service was truly amazing! Warm and welcoming, especially when our party went from 11 people to six people at the last minute and we stayed well after closing time. A few hours after closing time! FYI- this is one of the few places you can make a reservation for 11 people in San Francisco. The food was sophisticated Italian. Not too many new places are able to capture this well. All seven dishes we had were good. The ambiance is the perfect place for a date quiet sophisticated date experience or a large group. Noise does not carry and the Restuarant is big enough to seat the different purposes without interfering with each other. A rarity in San Francisco. "

  • "Haven't been to this venue in some time. Previous visits were very enjoyable: food, service and ambience. This time however, was disappointing: new menu, higher prices and curt service. We asked to split an order of meatballs as an appetizer; they were delicious however, there were only 3 SMALL meatballs (for two grown men) and priced at $10.00 -- that is $3.33 per meatball! The main course (veal scallopini) was tasteless and the ravioli as a main course were meager. Overall, a very disappointing dinner for the price. This restaurant is currently off of my radar for future outings. "

  • "I don't normally write reviews, if you don't have something good to say then don't say it, business is hard enough but...nice place great ambience. Our waiter was very cocky and aloof, seems like if you did not spend $200 well you'll get lousy service. The table across from us was buying everything on the menu and he was all over them, cracking jokes, etc. I had the special lamb ragu, for a special very bland, poor taste. My daughter had the Vermicelli with tuscan meatballs, again just like the lamb ragu. My wife had the lasagne, that was very good. Get rid of the cocky waiter...."

  • "Have been coming here for years, but this time a disappointment. Different menu with most of our favorites gone; service was abrupt and inattentive despite an almost empty dining room. Has Bacco changed hands? Very sorry to see this apparent decline and hope it's just a short-term problem as we have enjoyed the restaurant over the years."

  • "We had our usual great meal at Bacco, but this visit merits some constructive feedback. It's an odd complaint, but we actually had too much attention to our table, resulting in several instances of our table conversations being interrupted by a well-intentioned inquiry as to whether "everything is OK". We understand that staff were trying hard to assure that we were attended to, but we had 3 different waitpersons, plus a server and a bus person, who were checking in a little too frequently to make sure we were happy. While good attention is appreciated, it's is disconcerting to have one's flow of convivial table talk interrupted too many times. We love this place, but please, a little more air space between checkings in."

  • "We had dinner with a friend here at Bacco the other evening. The hostess was friendly when we arrived and sat us down and promptly a waiter arrived to ask about drinks and then the bread arrived. The bread was good and dipping oil. We ordered our bottle of wine and it came out shortly. Note that you should know your Italian wines for the menu was 99% Italian. Luckily I knew a little. Our first course was the octopus baked with a deep red sauce and the special were stuffed sardines. Both delicious and especially different. Dinner for us was either the black ink pasta with squid or the carbonara. We leaned towards the pasta since it stated they make their own pasta. They do. This is a neighborhood gem in the Noe Valley. Go!"

Kinda hidden in the southern Castro district off of diamond street.Warm italian/american servers, a dining room staff that all pitched in and helped ensuring great service, and dishes that have passion and flavor in every bite. This place surpassed expectations. So happy we drove outside downtown to find this little gem. Kudo's to the chef and staff. I'll be recommending this place to lots of friends."

  • "the service was great at first, except that I'm a bit deaf and the guy had a strong, presumably Italian, accent. But then he brought me the wrong entree, and tried to convince me that was what I ordered. He returned to the kitchen and immediately brought out the correct dish which had been there all along. Then later on, we ordered dessert and asked about a dessert wine, and he implied that he was going to let us try 2 options. Instead he brought us 2 full glasses, which we paid for. We almost finished them before he finally showed up with our desserts, which were pre-made and shouldn't have taken 15 minutes to bring out.. might be a good neighborhood place, but although none of us were unhappy with the food, none of us were excited."

  • "Great location, low noise, the food was amazing, and the server was extremely nice and very handsome. I swear he had to read the specials to me twice because I was distracted by his charm and thick accent. But enough of me being a creep! The food was great! I got the stuffed chicken and it was the tastiest moistest chicken I have ever had. Yes please. They sat us near the window and we were surrounded by the beautiful architecture of San Francisco's Noe Valley."

  • "I had wanted to go to Bacco for quite a while and finally had dinner on a Thursday evening. It was... fine. It was a bit disappointing because the food wasn't that great, wasn't that bad, just average. Very, very average. We had two appetizers. The cavolo (sauteed kale) was fine, but kind of bland. The crostino was tasty--but it was so simple, the kind of thing that it bothers me to pay for. Main course: she got the fregola (Sardinian pasta, clams, mussels,scallops, saffron, fresh tomato). It was fine, but the sauce was kind of Chef Boyardee-y. I got the risotto, which was actually quite good. Overall, we felt like we could have made everything at home, and probably better. Having said that: great service and good ambience."

  • "Still a quiet, cozy, lovely port in the increasing storm that is the SF restaurant (and street) scene. Terrific Italian comfort food, done with a civilized flair, never a heavy hand. We shared a Bacco salad and both went with fish of the day, Petrale in lemon, wine, butter and capers, which let the delicate fish speak for itself. Perfect haricot vert and a few rounds of potatoes sautéed gently with onion & olive oil. We followed the waiter's suggestions for wines by the glass and were happy. Responding to my Open Table request, the staff marked a birthday with complimentary tiramisu (again, perfect and light). Next time, we'll try the generous 3-course Dining Menu. Lighting is very low, but that's a plus and adds to the calm environment."

The waiter offered a clumsy flash light to read the menu by... when the food arrived ( it was delicious BTW) we honestly could not see what we were eating as some of the serving dishes were a dark clay color... perhaps this is someones idea of ambiance? BTW the service and food are consistently very good here."

  • "My husband, daughter and I went to Bacco for my husband's birthday dinner. It was our first time there, and we all LOVED the food, the service and the atmosphere. It was perfect; just what we hoped it would be - a much-appreciated, romantic spot, favored by a local clientele, with authentic, fresh Italian recipes and an upscale vibe. It's a cozy place where you can getting away from the busy, city scene - in a quiet neighborhood of SF - and step into a simple, but elegant space, with classic, rural Mediterranean style. Ceilings are a nice height, so it feels roomy. We sat in the first dining room near the door, where a trompe l'oeil mural of a pastoral tapestry sets a warm golden hue. Loved it! A thoroughly yummy place. We will be back!"
