  • "We selected Bacchus based on great reviews and Relais et Chateaux membership. We had one of the worst meals we have eaten in years. I ordered the green gazpacho. The presentation was nice, but when I ate it, it was extremely acidic, and mainly tasted of vinegar. The vegetable flavors missing. As salmon is seasonal in the NW I ordered the fresh salmon with quinoa. As soon as it arrived there was a fishy I was told that it would be cooked medium. The texture was that of frozen soggy salmon rather than fresh. It tasted as though it was going off. it was inedible and I left the restaurant hungry rather than eat it. It had sat under lights till someone covered it, and a bare-handed server added garnish without cleaning his hands."

I chose Bacchus as it is one of the few good restaurants in Vancouver where you can chat without shouting so it was very disappointing to find that conversation was so difficult. Exhausting, irritating & detracted from the excellent food & service."

  • "My husband and I made our reservations for dinner at Bacchus through OpenTable and noted that we were celebrating our 10th Anniversary. I was disappointed that this note went unnoticed and was not acknowledged at all. Our server was professional but only lukewarm. I was also underwhelmed with the food. I appreciated the complimentary amuse bouche but it lacked any flare or creativity. I ordered the duck as my entree. Our server informed us that the duck was their signature dish and I found one of the three pieces to be tough and overdone. The flavours were all in all a little boring. My husband's dish was much better. He had the tenderloin and it was succulent and delicious. The desserts were also just mediocre. Overall, not worth the money"

  • "Not up to the standard of a Chateau et Relais restaurant. Had the foie gras for first course and it was disappointing, presented in a bowl on top of a watery vegetable sauté. My main was BC halibut which was bland and uninspired. Desert was a trio of sorbets which I am certain came from a container. Have eaten recently at some if the new BC locavore restaurants in town and found them to be more inventive and better food."

  • "2 of us ordered the seafood salad that was supposed to have tuna, shrimp and mussels. When we told they were out of mussels (unacceptable to begin with, we thought), one of us asked for scallops instead. She was told "scallops were very expensive and they would charge extra" which we were alright with. Then the waiter came back saying they were going to be $3 extra which we were still ok with, until we saw 2 quarter-sized scallops on a separate plate. Considering the tuna and shrimp were extremely scant, we thought the salad was a rip-off at $19 in one case and $22 in the other. We would probably go back for an afternooon beverage or something because the atmosphere is very pleasant, but I doubt I'll risk another meal at the Bacchus."

The menu selection and food preparation is great. The dining rooms are beautiful, and the service is excellent. I enjoyed lobster bisque, Trio of Lobster, scallop, and halibut, wonderful reasonably priced bottle of Gavi, opera cake and cappuccino with the best sugar ever tasted (imported from Sweden I think), and a chocolate martini to finish. A perfect final evening in Vancouver!"

  • "I had a surprise night out planned for my wife and a nice dinner was part of it. We had never stayed at the Wedgewood Hotel or dined at Bacchus Restaurant before. Both were outstanding! We had an early reservation time of 5:30 so we would not be rushed leaving for Wicked playing at the QE. We were seated at a very nice table for two. The restaurant staff were very attentive but not annoying. The timing of plates was spot on. My wife had the Wednesday Halibut with beet salad while I had the veal. The presentation was excellent. Our waiter made some very good wine pairing suggestions to go with our dinner choices. We finished dinner with an apple tart and caramel glaze for dessert. Could not have asked for more. "

  • "It was my girlfriend and I two year anniversary. I took a look online for live music restaurants and this one took a shine. Live piano music every night in a classical-jazz sense mixed with the mild dim lighting makes for a very romantic setting. The wine was excellent. We got the Italian. She had the spaghettini with prawns custom with Alfredo sauce and I had the duo duck brome with blackberry sauce. We both loved our meals. Even each others, through taste sampling. Dessert was the lemon bean creme brûlée and it was the most heavounous dessert I have ever tasted. In the end, they brought a tray of delicious little honey walnut things with the title happy anniversary. They were so delicious even though I was stuffed I had to eat them. "
