I made special note upon reserving my table with excitement as it is my special someone's returning as well as birthday dinner. It was a special night for us. However, the waiter didn't smile much, so serious, and did not acknowledged on the information provided upon reserving, oh well, don't bother making a reservation, as the restaurant is very empty. Our waiter brought us to a "quiet area" where a loud party of 6 was then place right beside our table. Bread server and water refiller server were especially kind, just not our waiter. He was too busy caring for the party of 6. Food was fantastic and worth every penny I spent!

We have been to this restaurant many times for brunch, and this time it certainly did not meet our expectations . It appears it is under new management. The food was not prepared nearly as nicely or as well...fish and chips cold...poor side salad with sandwich. The quality of food at Joey's far surpasses what we received for the price.. We will think twice before we return in the future. It used to be a stellar place in Vancouver...now mediocre!

Went for lunch with a group of four. Carrot soup with coriander was good, but the salad was appalling. It consisted of supermarket package greens which were slightly stale with very small amounts of other ingredients, microscopic beets, and seeds. Absolutely unacceptable at any price, but particularly at $15! My friend had the same salad and commented that this was the worst salad that she had ever had in a restaurant, and I have to say that I agreed. Some of the flatbreads tasted mouldy. It was a shame that the food was so bad as the ambiance and the service would make this a great place to have a pleasant lunch, but I will not go back after my experience on Wednesday September 24th 2014.

I recently went with my boyfriend to have a nice night on the town. I ordered the Mushroom Risotto and 3 ounce cheese platter, while he ordered the soup du jour (seafood with rose sauce) as well as the prawn spaghettini. The food was to die for! It came in pairs so both him and I were eating at the same time, even if I ordered something last minute. The speed of service was incredible-we weren't waiting longer than 10 mins at a time at most. There was a pianist playing some classics and it was nice, though the people were a little loud with conversation so he couldn't be heard too clearly oftentimes. Still, nice ambiance and candles at each table. We ordered a white wine from the okanagon that the server had recommended and tasted lovely!

We think Bacchus is a very special restaurant, and the bar area is so lively and fun. I came over the day prior to reserve a special table for my husband's birthday (the following day) and our aniversary. The maître d' (Edouard) assured me that we (we were dining with another couple, also from the USA) would have table 72, in the middle of the restaurant. He agreed with me that it was a GREAT table. While we were having cocktails in the bar (and I had told his assistant that we had arrived), he confirmed that table 72 was available. When Edouard arrived, I spoke to him because our table was by then occupied by another foursome. I was really upset! Also, our rose sparkling wine was served FLAT. What a shame. Ginny B

The food is excellent - quite delicious and very well presented. The service is extremely professional yet at the same time warm. While obviously not a "budget" destination it is well worth the money for special occasions or if you have to be relatively affluent. We will return the next time we are in Vancouver.

Lovely ambience; very comfortable and romantic. Very good food and nicely presented. A little put off by the service, however. Our waiter was clearly distracted and seemed impatient. We appreciate it was a Saturday night and on the busier side, however, a little warmth from the waiter would have made the evening pretty much perfect. It may help to remind some of the wait staff that without customers, there is no restaurant. We are far from demanding and very low-key patrons. However, as individuals who frequently dine at high-end restaurants, we do expect a little more from the wait staff, ie., do not make us feel as if you wish to rush us through or cannot wait while we determine our menu choices.

Front end of restaurant is very attractive but sound level of piano makes it more difficult to hold a calm conversation. Back end of restaurant is quieter but not as attractive, so there is a trade-off in where you sit. Otherwise, a very lovely restaurant with very good food and service.

We selected Bacchus based on great reviews and Relais et Chateaux membership. We had one of the worst meals we have eaten in years. I ordered the green gazpacho. The presentation was nice, but when I ate it, it was extremely acidic, and mainly tasted of vinegar. The vegetable flavors missing. As salmon is seasonal in the NW I ordered the fresh salmon with quinoa. As soon as it arrived there was a fishy I was told that it would be cooked medium. The texture was that of frozen soggy salmon rather than fresh. It tasted as though it was going off. it was inedible and I left the restaurant hungry rather than eat it. It had sat under lights till someone covered it, and a bare-handed server added garnish without cleaning his hands.

The food & service were excellent but we found the music, in particular the singing very annoying, intrusive and much too loud. I chose Bacchus as it is one of the few good restaurants in Vancouver where you can chat without shouting so it was very disappointing to find that conversation was so difficult. Exhausting, irritating & detracted from the excellent food & service.

My husband and I made our reservations for dinner at Bacchus through OpenTable and noted that we were celebrating our 10th Anniversary. I was disappointed that this note went unnoticed and was not acknowledged at all. Our server was professional but only lukewarm. I was also underwhelmed with the food. I appreciated the complimentary amuse bouche but it lacked any flare or creativity. I ordered the duck as my entree. Our server informed us that the duck was their signature dish and I found one of the three pieces to be tough and overdone. The flavours were all in all a little boring. My husband's dish was much better. He had the tenderloin and it was succulent and delicious. The desserts were also just mediocre. Overall, not worth the money

Not up to the standard of a Chateau et Relais restaurant. Had the foie gras for first course and it was disappointing, presented in a bowl on top of a watery vegetable sauté. My main was BC halibut which was bland and uninspired. Desert was a trio of sorbets which I am certain came from a container. Have eaten recently at some if the new BC locavore restaurants in town and found them to be more inventive and better food.

2 of us ordered the seafood salad that was supposed to have tuna, shrimp and mussels. When we told they were out of mussels (unacceptable to begin with, we thought), one of us asked for scallops instead. She was told "scallops were very expensive and they would charge extra" which we were alright with. Then the waiter came back saying they were going to be $3 extra which we were still ok with, until we saw 2 quarter-sized scallops on a separate plate. Considering the tuna and shrimp were extremely scant, we thought the salad was a rip-off at $19 in one case and $22 in the other. We would probably go back for an afternooon beverage or something because the atmosphere is very pleasant, but I doubt I'll risk another meal at the Bacchus.
