A word from Baby Wale
Baby Wale is an urban rustic tavern that serves a small selection of bar snacks which are seasonally inspired. Most of our ingredients are sourced from local farms.

Baby Wale has a fantastic
atmosphere. It's a very cool space for a nice, casual meal or a drink at the bar. Perfect spot if you're having a full day around town and want something casual, but nice for a full meal, appetizers or just a drink. Really enjoyed the salami pizza and the papusas."

Baby Wale was a cool spot and fun.
There's plenty of room. We were catching up with folks we hadn't seen for awhile and we were not rushed at all and that was appreciated. But I thought the food was "just ok". Nothing fabulous. It tasted fine but there was no "dazzle" on the plate. Eye appeal counts for a lot for me. It is a convenient location if you are going to the Convention Center, so I might return but I wouldn't rush...."

I love trying new restaurants, so
I was excited to try Baby Wale for happy hour. The atmosphere, and bar, and drinks are awesome -- but no happy hour deals (on food or drinks). The food is another story...no good apps unless you want a hot bowl of celery root soup to go along with your beer. The menu is so far fetched that none of their small plates sounded good to me (and i'm not a picky eater). When I looked around, no one else was eating in the entire restaurant either! This place is in dire need of happy hour and some good bar food with a twist (cilantro wings, caprese silders, etc...)"

Great restaurant! The staff was
VERY nice, our server was excellent, we ordered almost all of the appetizers and each one was better than the next. Our entrees were great too ,drinks very different but good, and the best part was the dinner was very reasonably priced for what we got."
Dined on 3/29/2014
The menu was very interesting,
informal with items like spring rolls, pupusas, and even hot dogs, but everything was delicious! Like most trendy places it was very noisy. We asked to sit in the back where it was marginally -- only marginally -- less noisy. It makes conversation difficult, but not impossible."

Very well executed food - the
breaded pork was delicious, juicy, and tender. Loved the savory faux rib-eye. Celery root soup: intense but the lobster stock was pronounced. Porcupine mozzarella - fantastic pairing between the creamy cheese and the crispy filo dough. We didn't delve into the cocktail menu. The wait staff proactively offered info about each of the dishes so we had a good idea of what to expect (or could have used that info to change our mind). The noise level at 7 pm on a Friday was intense b/c high vaulted ceilings and hard surfaces. I was expecting something cozier given the web design. This is a large space, industrial feel, with rustic touches (the posters, the tin plates). Bustling. Don't recommend for quiet romance."
Dined on 3/14/2014
New Jersey dog was good, as was
the fancy cheese and salvedorean dishes. IPA was good! Noise is low and we brought kids to our table as well and had a great time!"

We found this place to be pretty
substandard. In the pursuit of being avant garde, it's just weird. There was not a single recognizable vodka: no Stoly, no Ketel One: heck, for that matter, no Smirnoff's! We ordered martinis, and the waiter served them in juice glasses, and spooned small olives into each. They all had pits! Same with the beer selection. Groovy doesn't equal good. The sandwiches were over-toasted. The fries were more reminiscent of the potato sticks that used to come in a can. The waitress was pleasant, but clearly had no idea what she was serving. The space has substituted a few crummy posters in a cavernous room for "décor". Overall, it just ain't working."

Great spot for a casual
work-related dinner; awesome bar that spans entire length of restaurant. Plenty of space, not too crowded or loud. Really enjoyed eclectic menu."
Dined on 3/5/2014
Delightful & tasty menu items.
Have the spring rolls - almost a dinner by themselves. Good variety of wines. And a free freshly baked cookie for each diner."
Dined on 2/27/2014
The mushroom fettucini was
fabulous and everything else was good, except the mozzarella porcupine was cold.."

I would come back to try some of
their smaller dishes. Seems to be a great spot for happy hour for a small group. Small dishes seem to give a fresh spin on bar food. Wait staff was also excellent."
Dined on 2/14/2014
The place has a relaxed easy
atmosphere, a spacious bar area, and is probably great fun for a late night gathering or a drink. I stuck with a couple of food choices recommended by others; we both liked the food and the desserts -- cookies. The menu is too limited, though, so its a better place for a drink than for dinner right now. Service was very good; our server was attentive, friendly and timely, and the food arrived in a reasonable time after ordering it. Right across from convention center."
Dined on 2/7/2014
We asked for and got a quiet table
in an otherwise noisy restaurant. Great for late night wine and light dining. Service was great."
Dined on 2/6/2014
The menu, at first, seems odd;
lobster and hot dogs in the same place? But seriously, try it; we had the spring rolls, the hot dog, the lobster roll, and some kind of chocolate pudding/custard dessert. All were delicious. The bar seemed happening, and my wife enjoyed her cocktail, so I think they're a success on that front as well! Our server was excellent, too."
Dined on 1/25/2014
Really cute place with chill vibe
and nice atmosphere. One problem: we ordered too much. The menu had somethings listed as like "small plates" or something along those lines and so we ordered 4 things for two people - WAY too much and we ended up leaving most of it."
Dined on 1/25/2014
I love the space and I love that
it is in my neighborhood which is changing quickly. I am not 100 % about the menu, but there are some gems on it still. My bf and I love the Pilipino spring rolls and the grilled cheese sandwich was amazing. Simple food is always the best. My meal was delicious, but I don't think it was memorable, but I do plan to return to try other items."
Dined on 1/25/2014
We had great drinks and food and
lingered over the chicken for a most enjoyable evening."
Dined on 1/24/2014
We went there since the reviews
were good. The ambience is very vibrant but the service and food were a major disappointment. The tables were severely understaffed and the kitchen was struggling - even the manager acknowledged the kitchen issue. It took 45 miss for them to bring the spring rolls out after we reminded the person waiting our table. We ordered the Mozzarella Porcupine and Spring Rolls and the food was very salty. We actually decided to go somewhere else for dinner instead. I would recommend this place for drinks only."

I like the vibe of this restaurant
but this is my second time here, first when it just opened and then again a few days ago. The service hasn't improved at all. We had a delightful server but he had WAY too many tables and just wasn't able to give us the attention we needed. Admittedly we had people order at different times as we arrived at different times but the later orders came a good 20 mins before the other meals. And no explanation. I hope they improve as I do like the concept of the place."
Dined on 1/16/2014
International dishes, nothing
fancy, good place to grab a bite on and R&R day."
Dined on 1/11/2014
I was expecting a restaurant with
more food options. There were no daily specials. I ended up with a grilled cheese sandwich and salad. Towards the end of the night, the restaurant was so loud that normal conversations were yelling. I would go back for a drink but not to eat until the menu gets revised."
Dined on 1/11/2014
Great addition to the
neighborhood. Love what they did with the space. A bit of a limited menu for the price, but overall good."
Dined on 10/28/2013
Reasonably priced with an
exceptional roast chicken makes this an interesting place to stop in at. Definitely enjoyed our meal when it arrived but the lackluster service really took a bite our of the experience."
Dined on 1/4/2014
Though quiet on Christmas Eve, I'm
so glad Baby Whale was open. Basically, I had a salad, tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. All of the food was really good as well as a unique beer/wine list which was great. I've probably had better tomato soup in my life and same with the grilled cheese sandwich but I mainly care about high quality ingredients and flavor."
Dined on 12/24/2013
Had a great time at Baby Wale. It
was our first visit and the food was great. The service started off a little slow, it took a really long time to get our appetizers, but after that is was very smooth and friendly. Other than that little hiccup we enjoyed the atmosphere, Go Go soundtrack and really tasty and eclectic menu. It is a little expensive, so not an everyday place, but we'll definitely be back when we're looking for a nice dinner out."

Great bar scene, beers and mixed
drinks. Casual bar food and easy dinner entrees."
Dined on 12/28/2013
We went to Baby Wale for the first
time for a casual week night dinner and drinks with some family in from out of town. This place is great! First off, the space is huge and the bar runs almost the entire length. Our waiter, Boris, was really friendly and gave us great service all night. They have a good beer selection, and the food is excellent. I can't wait to go back."
Dined on 12/23/2013
Food was great. Service was
stellar. My personal favorite was the spring rolls, although my wife was preferential to the grilled cheese."
Dined on 12/21/2013
We had a nice birthday dinner out
at Baby Wale (our first time there). We'd heard good things before choosing to go there. The celery root soup was tasty, as were the duck confit cassoulet and the rib eye. The cassoulet was heavier than expected and a bit saltier than I prefer, but good nonetheless. The most outstanding part of the evening was our server, Boris. When we weren't sure about beers, he offered us a tasting of the selections we were curious about. He was energetic and full of information - happy and eager to answer any of our questions."
Dined on 12/20/2013
Where should I begin? We we're a
table of three on a less than busy Wednesday night. It took our waiter 20 minutes to take our drink order and then an additional ten to get one beer, a glass of wine, and a soda. Highly annoyed, we placed our food order. Thirty minutes later when the food came out my entree was somehow missing. I waited an additional ten minutes assuming it would show up and when I finally asked our clueless server he said the order must've been missing from their system. The whole experience was a complete joke and when I complained to the manager he was just about as clueless as his wait staff. I will never go back."
Dined on 12/18/2013
The decor was beautiful, the
service was attentive and friendly, and the food was tasty. A big draw back were the prices. With $20 entrees and a limited menu, it's too pricey to be my regular spot."
Dined on 12/16/2013
Super meal! The Charred Tomato
Soup was spectacular - with hints of smoke and a little bite - The Duck Confit was better than any I have had in France- the skin was perfect and the meat melted in my mouth - TheSalmon Salad was cooked perfectly, and the greens were fresh and crispy- The Cotes de Rhone was a bargain by the glass, and we both loved it -"

I'm so glad this gem opened up in
the neighborhood- great food, good prices, amazing service. We loved our waiter!"
Dined on 12/11/2013
I had dinner with 5 friends on a
cold Monday night in December, so the place wasn't too busy. But that suited us well as we were able to chat and dine at our own pace. The service got to be a little slow at the end, but it was a good experience. I thought the menu and beer lists were a little thin, although the breaded veal dish I had was very good."

Needs more time to get on its feet
and finish training staff"
Dined on 12/7/2013
We asked the bartender for
recommendations on a good wine and were surprised to hear that she hadn't actually experienced any of the wines! It's a wine bar! What gives? Food was very average (we ordered the ribeye & fries and salmon salad). Always had great experiences at Corduroy, though Baby Wale was a big disappointment. Won't likely be back."
Dined on 12/7/2013
Love the interior and the friendly
service. The food menu isn't overwhelming and there's a refreshing lack of pretension that seems to plague newly-opened restaurants. It's a casual, reasonably-priced, stable place to eat in our neighborhood. It has everything that would draw me to become a regular. Oh and great wine list too! My only (and minor) disappointment is that there's not enough space between the dinner tables and the bar area. The first time we went, there wasn't an issue but the second time we were sitting closer to the bar and it was very crowded — lots of butts bumping our chairs and shoulders, super annoying. To their credit, they moved us immediately to a more protected table. Excited to go back again, and again!"
Dined on 11/19/2013
Service leaves a lot to be desired
. We had to wait about 40 minutes before the food finally arrived. The food was O.K., but nothing memorable. For a wine bar, wine selection is rather disappointing, especially by the glass."
Dined on 11/16/2013
This is a great new place. The
kitchen is very small so it can be a bit slow to get the food. The food is excellent. May need to increase wait staff as the restaurant becomes more popular!"
