  • "Babbo was great, as expected. The selection on the menu was so vast, I can see why the tasting menu is so popular. If you don't take that route it's great to order a variety of dishes to share--create your own tasting! The beef cheek ravioli with truffle was recommended. I really liked it to try 1or2 but would not need a whole plate. The sweet potato ravioli with sage was light and amazing. Just perfect. Lamb hops were quite good. Branzino was excellent. The upstairs dining room has a great skylight. Downstairs is dark and cozy, although a bit on the loud side, but I like that atmosphere. Service was on it. A little rushed to clear the tables, but polite and friendly waitstaff. There is a reason why this restaurant has lasted. Try it."

  • "We were impressed with every aspect of Babbo- terrific and creative appetizers, amazing pasta, generous portions--tremendous wine - had an Arneis and a Brunello. The downside to the entire experience was that the music of choice was hard rock, played very loud which created a rather stifling feeling. The music just didn't jive with how fabulous everything else was. Seems like it's time to upgrade that sound system so music can be background allowing for conversation. I'll go back the wine bar by myself, but would not return to dine. We asked to get music down- but system was old school apparently and can't be dialed down."

  • "Bobbo was recommended to us by a friend who lives in NYC when we asked about restaurants that were not the "typical" ones people tell you to go too. The only reservation we could get 2 weeks before was at 5:30 on a Wednesday night, so I took that as a good sign! It did not disappoint…my hisband had homemade pasta pockets and I had the special scallop dish - both were wonderful!"

  • "One of the worst lunches we've had. Pasta was not al dente-- it was uncooked. Had to ask for the amuse bouche. Bread was gummy and sloppy service. Goodbye Babbo. We loved you once. NO longer will we visit. We have entered a note to the restaurant but somehow it can't be sent. Seems that whenever there is a negative response we can't mail it back. (Had a previously similar experience and gave up and didn't return the questionaire. This time I would like the restaurant to receive my feed back. How?"

  • "We chose Babbo for a late night dinner after the theatre and couldn't be happier. The atmosphere was relaxed seating, but still elegant. Great cocktails and very helpful and informed servers (Thank you, Edgar). Loved that the music was from Mario's own iPod, as it was at CarneVino.... feels like a less-stayed experience. The Pig Foot Milanese was excellent, crispy and suculent and the Mint Love Letters was every bit refreshing and tangy. But the standout was the Olive Oil Cake and gelato. Simply a masterpiece - like a great pitcher throwing a No-Hitter, that moment when Gina Depalma acheived perfection (and a damn good White Choc, strawberry cheesecake, too). We'll be back and can't wait to make the Olive oil cake at home!! Thank you"

The food was amazing and unique in each course and the portion sizes were very reasonable for the caliber of restaurant. The service was very attentive and the sommelier suggested the perfect wine to go with the meal. For those looking for a truly outstanding dinning experience and exceptional cuisine you will not go wrong with Babbo"

  • "Terrible experience with our reservation. We had to wait an hour to be seated ! With such a strict reservation policy, one should not have to wait so long to get your table. We felt we were wating in line at Olive Garden and not Babbo rest !! Pasta though was excellent and very good service. We thought the music selection was not appropriate for the place and was too loud."

  • "Babbo never disappoints! The food is wonderful the service great and the ambience is comfortable and lively. The pappardelle a ma bolognese is always amazing but this time we also tried two new dishes including pasta with lobster and a special black spaghetti with spicy shrimp. You can't pass up the pistachio semifreddo and the peach crostata was divine!! The waiter was great and brought my daughters" dessert with a birthday candle to celebrate!!"

  • "As New York is full of really good restaurants, Babbo is not outstanding in my opinion. I had the pasta with brown butter and sage and found it pretty tasteless. My friend had a nice salad and another had the gnocchi which was good but not really outstanding. The service was very good and the bread was excellent as was the complimentary chick pea salad. But the olive oil cake with gelato was really outstanding. Of course, for $17, it should have been!"

The service was good, the ambience was ok, not great, but the food was at best mediocre and the portions were smaller than most good restaurants and Babbo is supposed to be better than most. Sometimes we excuse one not so good meal by saying it was a fluke. In this case, since there are so many really good Italian restaurants, I would not give it a second chance. In addition, the menu was fairly limited."

  • "Last week we went to Babbo on a Thursday night at 5:30 (before a 7:30 show). Our cocktails were made perfectly, and our waitress was very accommodating and knowledgeable. My husband and I enjoyed splurging on a little pasta - they were happy to pack 1/2 of the portion before serving it for me. The garganelli with rapini and sausage was amazing. The scallops were just right, and the sauteed greens balanced everything out. My husband's black linguini with shrimp was a bit spicy and perfect for him. The corn fregula - with a little semolina was very nicely balanced as well. We opted out of dessert, although it all looked great."

  • "We dinned there just 2 nights ago and I have to say the service was fantastic. But the food wasn't all that. for the table we ordered beef check Ravioli, sweet potato Ravioli and Lobster pasta, all good but definitely not WOW. If only the Raviolis were stuffed a little more so you could taste it. I don't think Mr. Batali would serve himself such chintzy Raviolis. Grilled octopus was again good but nothing you can get somewhere else. Their Pork chops was very good. Great wine list. Would I go their again? NO. Too many other fantastic italian restaurants in the city to go there again."

  • "Until yesterday, I've only had dinner at Babbo, and every meal has always delicious. I took my out-of-town mom for lunch here, and the food was just as excellent as any evening experience. Service was efficient and polite, and the vibe was relaxed yet professional. The dining room was not very full, around 5 tables or so, but it didn't feel awkward or empty at all. I will definitely be coming back soon for their lunch prix-fixe."

  • "Our experience did not live up to the hype. We were sat at 10pm, 30 minutes late. I was very familiar with Babbo's reputation. I was prepared for a large crowd & even the wait to sit. What I was not prepared for was the quality of the food. My biggest complaint was that our first course, two pastas, were weak. My husband's Buccatini al'Amatriciana was overcooked, the guanciale undercooked & minimal and the tomato sauce was bland. Inexcusable. My Beef Cheek Ravioli had the flavors of beef cheeks & squab pate, but absolutely no truffles. They should not have been listed as an ingredient. I studied culinary arts in Florence & have lived there. I was expecting the same extraordinary food you get in Italy. This was not even close."

Bottom line: Surprised that the food quality fell short of expectations; specially being a Battali venue. Papardelle w/Mushrooms, after unsticking them (were in a "clump) was SWIMMING in butter; the Spaghetti w/Vongole's (clams) taste was not what I was expecting. Have had this dish dozens of times and know what to expect (lived in Italy for 4 years) Perhaps it had to do with the excessive "chicken broth" that was at the bottom of the bowl! The Branzino was good; the wine list impressive and service was terrific. Pricing pretty much in line with what you would expect to see. Not for a repeat visit; too many other restaurants in NYC to experience"

I've been to a lot of restaurants including most of 3-stared restaurants and I must say dishes we order at Babbo were as good as what they offer.   • "Girlfriend and I decided to try out Babbo as it was a Michelin 1 Star restaurant on July 2, 2014 for dinner. We each ordered the traditional tasting menu upon being seated. Since it was a Michelin 1 star restaurant, we expected a high level of service. However, it was a huge disappointment! When the server took our plates away from each course, the server clanked the knife and fork so loud beside her ear. In additional, another server came to refill our water glass and did not make the effort to go around the table to refill mine. As a result, water splashed all over our plates when the server reached over the table to refill my water glass. Food was mediocore, as my pasta was not al dente and was on the hard side. Would not come back again"

  • "I went with a couple of friends to try the lunch tasting menu and we were a bit dissapointed with the food. The appetizer seemed like it had been prepared hours ago, the pasta dish was not up to our standards and the pork loin was tough. Fortunately when the desserts came we were amazingly surprised. The olive oil cake, the rhubarb crostata and the chocolate pistacchio semifreddo were wonderfully plated and tasted heavenly. It is a real shame the first three courses were not as good. Service ans waiter were wonderful."
