Diner Reviews
  • "Babbo was well worth the experience. We were celebrating a special occasion and it was special. The food was incredible and we left full and satisfied."

  • "We went to Babbo after a show..our reservation was for 10:30PM and the staff was as attentive as if we were their first customers of the day. The food was outstanding. All in all a wonderful experience for a Mario fan from Albany!"

  • "Nice atmosphere but got way to crowded, especially on the first floor. The taste of the food was okay but the appearance of the food was appealing to the eye like art. One occasion I had to wait and wonder were my waiter could be because I was in need of something. Overall I felt the food was overpriced and way to noisy and crowded."

  • "Amazing food, great service and ambiance. Our third time there and food still amazing. We had four full courses and each were incredible. The pasta is some of the best in NYC and the wine list is very extensive, albeit a bit expensive. The only thing with Babbo is although you have a reservation you usually have to wait 15-30 minutes past your reservation for the table. And the bar area is always packed so you feel in the way. Other than that, top notch restaurant! "

  • "which is really great in terms of food and people and staff watching. Babbo is a machine (That's a good thing!) that runs very well, and if sometimes you do not feel quite as special as the people sitting next to or across from you, it is likely that you do not, alas, get to dine there with any regularity like they do. Do they appreciate Babbo as much as you do? Well, differently. Seriously, if you go to Babbo for quiet dining, it will disappoint; if you go there for the vibes and the dance of it all -- even the playlist is part of the choreography that is Babbo in motion -- you will not find a better experience. I wish I were in Babbo's neighborhood far more often than my Tucson roots allow."

  • "The food was fantastic, so was the service. The music is too loud and has nothing to do with the ambience. "

  • "Replaced one of our parties main courses without skipping a beat simply because it wasn't what he expected."

  • "Pretty poor service; a bit arrogant hosting staff. Food - moderate; doesn't match the hype. Sitting near the kitchen - unaxeptable"

  • "Was Babbo good? Yes. Was it great? No way. Fifteen years after taking NYC by storm, the crowds still show up. But the attention to detail and passion originally brought by Batali, Bastianich and Nusser are noticeably missing. The food was good, but, for the money, there are better options for Italian dining in Manhattan. The wine list continues to amaze, but is breathtakingly pricey. Service was terrible. On a Tuesday evening at 9:30, we waited 20 minutes after being seated for our order to be taken, then 45 minutes for our appetizers. Our wine sat unopened for 15 minutes on the somm's table while he chatted up a VIP. Go Spanish instead -- I think Andy Nusser is still at Casa Mono ...."

  • "Complete disappointment. Upon our arrival after the theater, I was informed that I could not keep my coat. I told the gentleman that I get cold and would like to keep. I was then told that, 'well if you keep it you can't have it on the back of the chair". Nice reception and I"m not worried about tipping a coat check I just get cold. Our waiter was pretentious, rude and inattentive. Not a good ambiance start to the dinner. The food was nothing to write home about either. We had the mozzarella as a starter....average. The pasta was al dente but the sauce, mine boar, I believe was tasteless. My companion had short rib, that was about 2 ounces and again, nothing spectacular. Don't go here, $300 well spent many other places in NYC."

  • "We had diner reservation for 10 pm. The restaurant called to confirm and sent an email requesting us to be on time, We were on time. However, we had to wait 45 min for a table. The restaurant has no room to wait, no bar area, we were standing outside the coat check room behind the hosts stand. By the time we finally sat to eat, the restaurant was in closing mode. It was empty. The food was good and so was the wine recommended by the sommelier."

  • "We we to babbo because it was own by iron chef Mario. We ordered beef cheek ravioli, black spaghetti and grill veal breast. All the foods were great. I did found a long hair in my pasta and the mgr took it off my check and appolgize on this matter. Good job!"

  • "After spending an entire week in New York in some of the best restaurants in town I was hoping Babbo was going to be amazing. It was nothing special, netiher in terms of food or service."

  • "The food is good overall (but not the fish) & our waiter good, but on this visit the host and mgrs were not gracious at all. They wouldn't let us sit at the table until all had arrived, even tho it was available, and then when we were all there we were kept waiting another 5 minutes. For the birthday cake I brought, they charged 15 PER PLATE to serve it, even though the meal cost hundreds of dollars, & did they have to tell me about it in front of my guests who were mortified? After I paid the check, and we were chatting maybe a minute and a half, a manager type came to the table, to tell us to leave- ok not in those words but he wasn't subtle. I won't be back."

  • "From being greeted at the door to the final bite of the final course, Babbo is a perfect evening out. Attention to detail and exceedingly helpful staff are part of the pleasure. The food and wine are the ultimate: not over-worked, delicate yet robust, simply wonderful. The only disappointment was that Mario did not make it in - we know from our last time there that he is a charming host!"

  • "Knowledgeable and amazingly friendly staff. Perfectly attentive without being overbearing. The top floor dining area has a beautiful skylight to watch the clouds go by. I asked the chef to pick my meal, which was so fun. Loved everything about this place!"

  • "Ou reservation was for 9:45 and we arrived 9:56. The hostess said they had our table ready but gave it to another client since we were not there. When asked about a tolerance time (we were 11 minutes late), he replied that since we booked through open table they couldn't wait. Next time I should call them to confirm. It would be better not to accept reservations through open table. The whole concept of open table is to avoid calling... They could call me, since they have my phone in the system, or could demand a credit card confirmartion, many restaurants do. We waited 35 minutes for the table..."

  • "Server and Som. were excellent and the total experience was good but I guess we expected more, We wanted to try some different dishes not available at most restaurants so we ordered three appetizers, four pasta courses, three entrees and one dessert. Pigs foot App... No!, unless you like eating fried fat and we love Pork Belly! BBQ Octopus and Duck Egg app were yummy! Mint Love Letters had too much Cumin for our taste, Beef Cheek Ravioli and Bucatini Amatriciana not memorable, but the Goat Cheese Tortelloni was yummy! Lamb Chops entree was surprisingly gamey, the Sweetbreads was missing something and the Rabbit although tasty was a bit dry.The best part of the meal was the Olive Oil Cake with Lemon Gelato.Wow!That's what we were expecting."

  • "We have dined at Babbos several times. We have now relocated to Florida and were in NYC for a special weekend. First on priority list was to eat here. As usual it was a fantastic experience. Food just great, wonderful spot on service."

  • "My mom always wanted to do a tasting menu at Babbo. She wanted it for her 60th birthday, but we couldn't make it happen. Last week, my sister and I found out my mom would be in town for her 65th birthday, and there was a reservation for dinner! The traditional tasting menu was fantastic. We were sat upstairs, which was fortunate as it was much quieter than the downstairs level. The service and food were fantastic. I informed them that it was a special occasion, and they went above and beyond. They gave us an assortment of desserts, with her name written on the plate. They then gave us additional cookies, and a free glass of wine during the meal. Might have been the most expensive meal I've ever bought, but was well worth it!"

  • "Went for my first wedding anniversary. My wife had been there several years earlier. Based on her recommendation we went will the tasting menu with vine pairing. It was good but ..value for cost was not there. The service was good not great.."

  • "Had a special anniversary recently, so we chose to go to Babbo. After much deliberation over the many wonderful-sounding choices, we chose the pasta tasting menu. Out came 5 delicious courses of pasta with some excellent matching wines, followed by two lovely dessert courses. The wait staff were excellent: friendly, knowledgeable & attentive; the food beautifully presented and delicious and the restaurant was a comfortable and visually interesting place to sit and watch over the course of a couple of hours. Highly recommended!"

  • "I have always wanted to go to Babbo since learning it was Mario Batalis restaurant. The ambiance was nice and romantic and the food was impeccable. My husband and I went to Rome on our honeymoon a few months back and this brought us back to the feeling of the beautiful restaurants there. Bellisimo!"

  • "I'd been to Babbo a number of years ago, and just loved everything about it. Couldn't wait to go back and treat my daughter to, what I hoped would be, the best Birthday dinner ever. When I made our reservation a month prior, I let them know it was a special occasion, provided details and had arranged with Babbo to have them dress up whatever my daughter ordered for dessert with a candle and Happy Birthday on the plate as a surprise for her. The whole meal felt rushed and was very good, but not spectacular. The biggest disappointment was that my Birthday surprise for her was missed, and when her dessert came out, nothing - no candle, no special plating. My heart just sunk. On the way out the Matre d wished me a Happy Birthday."

  • "We had an early reservation at Babbo which was required because later seating was not available. A nice chickpea based amuse Boucher was offered and very tasty. I had a braised fennel salad and my companions had the house salads. It's immediately evident that only the best quality ingredients are used, e.g. incredible aged balsamic vinegar. My dinner was duck over a beet and pancetta farrotto. I think this was the best duck dish I've ever eaten! My companions enjoyed their dinner. A pumpkin Croatia concluded my meal... not too sweet. Overall, a great meal."

  • "We chose this as our one special night out while we were in NY. The food was delicious. The restaurant was pretty dark, not well lit. I know it's probably for ambiance but it was just too dark it made a little tough for reading the menu. Our table wasn't ready when we got there and there isn't much of a waiting area. But overall great food and great service makes for a great experience."

  • "We had problems getting through the traffic and arrived late. The manager was swell enough to honor our reservation. Food is good, staff friendly. Good wine list, choices of interresting wines that were not too expensive. We had a great evening, would defenitively come again."

  • "Loved everything about our experience except the maître d'. He was rude, obnoxious and condescending."

  • "Italian food at it's best. Gorgeous restaurant and wonderful wine list. Service was fantastic. BUT the music was so loud that I couldn't hear my friend who was literally sitting next to me at a booth style table. The maitre de came over to ask us how we were doing and we couldn't hear him and he couldn't hear us. I am totally perplexed as to why a restaurant has to have such overwhelming decibels when it is not a nightclub. Dull down the music (and maybe delete the heavy rock and ACDC - even though I love ACDC as the Aussie I am) and Babbo is unbeatable."

  • "I've been there many times and the food remains as good as I remember. The tagliatelle with wild boar ragu and the octopus appetizer are just divine. If you ever have a chance to dine there, don't think twice...you won't regret it. It's one my Batali favorites, right up there with Osteria Mozza in LA."

  • "Our reception as we entered was appalling. 2 tables were seated in front of us and I've never felt so much that people didn't want to serve me, it seat me - I felt like i was inconveniencing the restaurant. Service at the bar while we waited was abhorrently slow. Once we were eventually seated it was great. Food and wine were sublime, both out table servers were beautiful lads; they and the meal saved it. Left satisfied despite front of houses efforts to ruin it. Food was wonderful."

  • "We were first time diners. Food was superb from start to finish. Sommelier gave us a great recommendation. One of the best meals we've had in a long time. Didn't see Mario Batali."

  • "Every course was amazing. This restaurant didi not disappoint. Duck egg and duck sausage appetizer was wonderful as was the duck main course. Chianti stained pappardelle with wild boar was excellent. And recommend the olive oil cake. Not too sweet which for me was just right. Highly recommend."

  • "Our previous visits were exquisite. The food was outstanding, the wine selection was excellent and the Ambience sublime. The same cannot be said about our last visit - which will be our last visit. The food being unremarkable was a disappointment but the all night loud Rolling Stones music left us hurried for the door."
