I truly apprericated that we were accomdated after arriving late from our play. The only problem we had was as we were ordering dessert ( and I realize it was late due to our late arrival), heavy metal music came began playing which almost made me jump out of my seat. When I asked if it was possible to turn down, I was told that Mario likes this kind of music and he was in charge of the music selctions.

The wine list is extensive with plenty of varieties and price points to choose from, the menu was vast without being overwhelming, and the overall atmosphere was relaxed and unpretentious. My husband and I arrived early for a drink at the (very small) bar followed by an absolutely delicious dinner. Everything was cooked just right - the octopus was the best my husband has ever had, the pastas were fantastic - we tried the bucatini, and the Brasato al Barolo was one of the most tender meat dishes I've ever had. It was a surprise dinner and we both enjoyed the ambiance and the food. Amuse bouche was excellent. Chianti Stained Pappardelle and Neci Con Funghi Misti were spot-on. Steak and guinea hen were fabulous and savory. Servers were attentive and friendly. We ordered just the right amount of food for 3 hungry people, 2 apps, 3 pastas, 1 seafood, 1 meat dish and 3 deserts. Everything was good but not necessarily memorable. However, I order a pasta dish that was probably one of the best I've had - Pappardelle with Chanterelles. I was trying to stop my friends from eating off my plate. It's a simple dish but the cheese and the mushrooms went great with fresh pasta. highly recommended.
The service was great as expected. The waiter chose an excellent bottle of wine that was exactly what I asked for at a very reasonable price.

Batali delivers simple straight forward rustic Italian food that has a ton of flavor using top quality ingredients. All three of our main courses received an A rating which is very rare even at Per Se or Le Bernardin. The house made Garganelli with “Funghi Trifolati” was excellent, the Spaghetti w/ ramps had a wonderful smokey flavor and perfectly adente, and The Red Snapper w/ pesto and Black trumpet mushrooms was fantastic. I do not care much about service but here it stood out without being overbearing. The Chocolate Hazelnut Cake with Orange Sauce and Hazelnut Gelato was an "A "desert. The grilled squid was by far the best I've ever had.
Sweet potato gnoicchi was okay. The branzino was flavourful and having the server fillet the meat for us and split on two dishes was an amazing detail.
Black spaghetti with rock shrimp and bacon is a MUST. Perfectly cooked el dente pasta.
Grilled rapini is a nice addition.
Service was top notch, despite running a mere 15 minutes behind schedule, the house treated us to complimentary prosecco. Also got a crustini amuse buche. The waiters were attentive, but not hovering.

The Maitre D' was not at all friendly and curtly advised us that we were not permitted to hang our coats on the backs of our chairs. You must check them....at the time it was self service. The waiter was exceptional, attentive, made great recommendations, etc. The food was delightful! We didn't have to wait long for any part of the meal but we were not at all rushed. We had the nine course tasting menu. The two pasta courses were divine to the point of heavenly.
It was a foodie's indulgence of an evening.

And as a wine lover I can judge - they have best of the best italian wine brands and some are very rare even to find in Italy.
The food is delicious but I could not try as many as I'd like because it was only my breakfast/lunch time. But next time for sure I'll choose duck egg with white truffles for 80$. But the price for regular dishes is very reasonable - entree is 20-25$.
The staff is arrogant but it's so common for locals reastaurants if it's not McDonald's nowdays that I stopped paying attentions to this.
