Every wine we've ever had here has been excellent. It goes so well with the thoughtful food. This time I had the salmon, and it was cooked to perfection: creamy soft and delicate - not overcooked like most places do. I like that the ingredients are chosen for their sustainability. The service always seems just right. It's a small enough place where you get neither overlooked nor doted on. This is our go-to place on York.

We've eaten at Ba the past two Friday nights. Love the authentic French dishes and mostly French wine list. Great knowledgeable servers and relaxing armosphere. Have loved everything we've had from their signature mushroom brûlée to entrees and desserts.

Tucked away in an otherwise unassuming neighborhood in Highland Park is a lovely little French bistro. The food is simple, well-prepared, and served in a cozy room. We dined on duck and salmon. Both dishes came with nicely paired veg and starch on the same plate, making for a comfy meal. The wine list includes a nice selection of French bottles and wines by the glass.

This was my 6th or 7th time at Ba, and as with all of my other visits for brunch, lunch, dinner, everything was perfect. The atmosphere is conducive to conversation, the service is well-trained, efficient, and very friendly. And not least, the food is great! When I'm at Ba, I feel like I'm in one of the many great eateries in Portland, which makes me very happy.

Something was wrong with the ventilation on Saturday 8/16 - continued smokiness in the dining room was pretty awful! fix your ventilation, people! the dining room was lovely, although the outdoor areas are a totally different environment - right on the street and noisy/much more casual. I'd recommend sitting inside except for the smoke. The food was excellent - very simple preparation but very delicious and healthful. The mushroom brûlée was delicious - i want 5 more! Once they fix the ventilation, we'll be sure to try again.

First of all, the food is wonderful. It's really good. The restaurant is small, quiet, and elegant. It seems to be the work of a group of young artistic people trying to make something really good, and it is. Four of us went on raves from friends who had been the night before so we sort of knew what we wanted to have: the duck, the coq au vin, the pork chop, and the mushroom-truffle risotto. Plus salad and the mushroom & brie brûlée! All were delicious and beautiful. I had the coq au vin, it was rich and saucy. We were all very happy! Ba, your brûlée reminded me something I always loved: wild-mushroom strudel. The restaurant at Tamarack Lodge used to make it but no longer. You guys would do it great.

A friend wanted to check out the HP scene and I suggested dinner at Ba. The food was excellent-the best pork chop I've ever had and an out-of-this world mushroom brûlée I've never had before. My friend had the salmon-which he said was delicious-and really loved his heirloom tomato and burrata salad. Fresh and really flavorful. Service was great too. Excellent quality for a very reasonable price. I will be dining there again-will have to try it for brunch.

Anytime my husband and I have a visit from parents or friends who we know appreciate delicious, well done food and wine, this is our go to neighborhood spot. It never fails to leave a wonderful impression on them. Every single aspect of this restaurant is just perfect for a nicer occasion. One food note that I especially appreciate is that the meat is cruelty free - surprisingly hard to find in LA. We love to support Ba and the chef/owner who lives locally and truly cares about both the positive growth of Highland Park and creating a lovely dining experience.

I have only been to Ba for dinner, so I can't speak for breakfast, brunch or lunch. I can say that dinner was a sensual orgy of tastes. My dining partner thought the same. I know because she said it first!! As Chef James reminds us, all the ingredients are hand picked, fresh and fabulous. The service is ultra professional. The wine list is a perfect match for the menu. The menu is a shape shifter. Nothing stays the same! Well maybe a few things repeat. I certainly hope so because I might hurt some one if mushroom brulee disappears! This is a 6 star experience. No, 10 star. You get my drift.

The staff and food are great! Had the sea bass with corn and my friend had the prawns with saffron and fennel. Both dishes were wonderfully balanced. The dill was a very nice touch for the fish and the prawns were very well cooked; slightly charred and crisp, but not rubbery. James had us try the salmon croquettes, and they were superb. He really takes pride in the food he prepares and goes the extra mile for his customers. I was also impressed by how easily immersed you become in the space. I quickly forgot how we just walked in off of York Blvd. Will definitely be eating here again.

This is the ideal restaurant for a quiet meal where you can converse with friends or a companion. There is soft music in the background which is lovely without being overwhelming. The menu is limited but what is featured is outstanding and the French wine choices were fine to go with the meal. The mushroom brulee to start was delicious as were the desserts at the conclusion of the meal.

Although the menu is short, everything is presented and prepared very thoughtfully. That includes the wines. We had a green salad, which was fresh and very green, but on the bland side with barely any dressing, if any. The variety of greens made it interesting, though. However, the asparagus spinach soup was full of flavor and spicy if you don't mind heavily peppered soup. The beef bourguingnon fell apart with the fork, and didn't disappoint our taste buds either. Same with the butternut squash souffle. Service is attentive and friendly, but not overly done. The design of the room is clever and artful with the appropriate lighting level - a feeling of warm French modern. I hate to let on about this place because it's a little gem.

This was my second visit to BA - this time for brunch, the first time for lunch during a quiet weekday. Service pleasant, not attentive. Food took forever - finally told a large party's order was put in before ours (really? 5 minutes later food arrived piping hot (at 1:50pm after a 1pm seating) - seemed our order was not even put in. A few items not available from the menu including their specialty Mushroom Brulee (which I had during my first visit and it is delish)....small glasses of champagne overpriced in my opinion at $9 each (a bottle is $36 - which we should have done not thinking we would want a second glass). There are more choices out there now in Highland Park. Next time, I'll try another.

I would've given it 5 stars if all the dishes where all equally good. The filet was perfect, the mushroom brûlée was amazing, but they fell flat on the chicken. Chicken is always hard so I can't fault them too much, but it was too dry. And the winter salad was a bit boring. Outside of that the service was genuinely friendly, not fake/forced and i Always appreciate that. The good dishes were very very good, for sure worth going back many times.

My vet is in Highland Park so I end up spending a lot of time there and I have to say, I love it. This is our second time to Ba. It's small, very nice inside, great, kind of a little off beat vibe but in a good way. I love the food. My dad was a chef and a foodie before there were foodies. The chef's style is very similar to my dad's. Fresh food, organic and locally sourced. Sauces and seasonings complent the food, so you taste the amazing piece of meat or fish. We like this as kind of a special occasion place but I could eat here a few times a week. We are not drinkers so I can't comment on the wine list. Save room for dessert. The cream puff they served on V Day was to die for. An elevated version but still simple.

We were staying in Highland Park so thought we would give it try. Very nice food. friendly staff. Wine list is short so check for the corkage fee and bring something you want to drink. I had the duck terrine. a local salad and a very good sea bass dish. French in style cooking enhanced by locally sourced food. Only open about 18 months, the work is starting to leak out about this sport. The table next to us was some film industry types from the west side who were congratulating themselves for coming into the 'hipster' neighborhood. We'll definitely return to sample this chef again!

What a lovely way to start a weekend - Brunch at Ba Restaurant. Now in its second year, Ba has been shinning up York Blvd. in Highland Park with its interesting menu and bright, lively service. My first adventure to Ba, more than a year and a half ago, was a bumpy affair as the newly opened venue struggled to find its culinary footing, but now (I'm thrilled to say!) Ba has found its food voice! My vegetarian quiche with a mesclun salad was both delicious and beautifully prepared. All of the plates at our table of friends were spotless at the meal's end - always a great sign.

Ba is just adorable - I love what they've done with the space. Overall, it's really just a kitchen and the dining area, and they really make the best of it. Good/comfortable seating and beautifully decorated. The wine list is comprehensive and the menu, though short, has something for everyone. The food was well-executed and was presented beautifully (we eat with our eyes first!). I think the lack of a bar scene is a plus in a little place like this - I would definitely return for a nice dinner or to try their brunch.

My friend had told me about this restaurant over a year ago and it took me a long time to finally get there. Now that I have had dinner there I CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK! I went there to celebrate a birthday with girlfriends and it turned out to be a great evening. The atmosphere is quiet and there is a cool intelligent vibe going on around you exemplified in the restaurant design, the staff and the people dining. The food was delicious and I was thrilled to see ample servings. Two of us ordered the mussels which were divine, but be ready for a large bed of french fries enveloping the mussels. We also ordered a chocolate cake slice for dessert and it was out of this world delicious and moist.

We've been to Ba at least eight times how, and every meal has been great. We go there to meet one couple or another, and it makes for easy talking. I recommend the fruit-and-cheese plate not listed on the menu for appetizers. If you can't choose among the half dozen entrees (which changes nightly), steak frites is usually on there, which is always good. It's a 6 oz. sirloin with shoe-string french fries. There are always fish and vegetarian meals, too. York Blvd. is becoming a "in" street in Los Angeles, and Ba is a gem.

We ordered the charcuterie plate to start and it was beautiful. More food than you'd expect from other spots.. Perfect portions. The mussels were also delicious. We wanted to order the mushroom soufflé but it was just too much food and we didn't want to skip on dessert. Bottles of wine are reasonably priced so definitely worth it to get a bottle. The server was very nice and knew a lot about the food. Overall we were really glad that we don't need to drive to downtown for great atmosphere and food! We are definitely coming back whether it's a special occasion or not.
