inventive fare, friendly serversHad a wonderful meal. Not a sophisticated place but that was just what we wanted after a day of wine tasting. Reserve – it's popular!4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMOur waiter Juan was very comfortablOur waiter Juan was very comfortable serving our table with a 3 year old. He was especially surprised that our daughter really had an appetite for the octopus and the mussels. He was patient and even put her to work walking over to collect the tab with her.
The food was as I remembered it - full of flavor. I was underwhelmed by the paella dish, but the 2 appetizers were tasty - potatas bravas, crispy and perfect and the ceviche had the right amount of acid.
The other dishes at the table were the beef with chimichurri - having just returned from Buenos Aires, the chimichurri could ahve been more fresh and not so paste-like, but all counties do this differently. The tuna dish with side of lentil salad decent.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AM4th time dining there. Great4th time dining there. We felt like we had been transported to Spain - the interior, the food, the ambiance so reminiscent of our travels in Espana. We definitely we look forward to returning to B44.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMTasty and fun Catalan gemThis is a great find. This restaurant is a little alley near the financial district. It is very casual but the food is delicious and the services great. The food has unusual flavors and there's an excellent selection. Our server was particularly good at helping us find the most excellent things on the menu.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMLike Traveling in Europe! WonderfulTerrific choice for a night out in San Francisco. Walking down the (very safe) alley transports you to Europe and the small cafes one finds there. Food was excellent. Atmosphere terrific. Service was a little "off"....inconsistent I guess. Very Hip, Very Cool Spot!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMsalmon sandwich the bestEnjoyed that salmon sandwich! Service really good, outside dining area very nice.Thanks.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous experience - We haveFabulous experience - We have been to B44 several times (we are from out of town) and enjoyed it each time, but this best of all. After a slight delay in getting out initial drink orders, service was good. The food was interesting and well-prepared. We were particularly delighted to find a particular Spanish wine on the list that we see rarely and really love - it was a gem. We will be back.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was spectacular and theFood was spectacular and the service very good. I would recommend this to anybody wanting something different in San Francisco.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMTerrific, but priceyHaving lived in Spain for a total of three years, I really miss going to a bar for tapas and wine--on the cheap. I'd come to this place a lot more often if the prices were more reasonable, but as is usually the case outside of Spain, tapas sell for the price of what may be full entrees at other establishments.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat meal, share small platesGreat meal, share small plates and enjoy. No rush from the staff. They encourage you to enjoy your meal.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMB44 is a delightWe had a group of 8 and thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Our waiter helped make selections that worked well for sharing, and he treated us with just the right amount of attention.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was excellent..met allFood was excellent..met all our expectations. We will definitely recommend to my friends and family.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife arrived early at 5:30My wife arrived early at 5:30 PM on a Saturday before the theater. The place was wide open with roughly 12 people outside and maybe 10 inside. We chose to sit inside. The hostess was very pleasant and offered the two of us to sit at a larger table in the corner rather than the small tables along the wall. Service was outstanding and the menu was interesting. We ordered 5 Tapas, one or two at a time, that our waiter helped us to pair with some nice Spanish wines. The food was very good, especially the grilled Octopus, stuffed calamari, and canneloni. The chocolate creampuff sliders were amazing for dessert. Our waiter even complemented our dessert with a glass of Wellington Palo Cortado 20 Year VOS Sherry that was a nice touch. Very Nice.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMI went to B44 with four ofI went to B44 with four of my girlfriends for my birthday. We had a great time - nice table outside (but with a heater so it stayed a nice temperature), delicious tapas (get the ceviche, its wonderful), and a great wine recommendation from the waiter. It wasn't too busy or loud, making a great place for a group. I would definitely recommend B44.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMExcept for the noise factorExcept for the noise factor (even at a back inside table, we had to raise our voices and left with raspy throats) we had a fabulous experience. Service was gracious without being pretentious or officious; food was excellent; great selelction of Spanish wines. Standouts included sausage-stuffed squid, black (squid ink) rice with clams and calamari (as good a sBarcelona!) and duck confit that was really more tagine style.
Todo riquisimo!3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMy only issue is that whileMy only issue is that while our waitstaff was attentive, service ran slow in parts as the restaurant filled up. But awesome dishes - loved the pulpo! Selection of wines was good - had an '10 Tempranillo that all at our table enjoyed.2/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
