  • "Paella B44 was good. Angus beef filet was not good as my son is a beef eater, he practically didn't finish the dish considering he's a big guy. He knows what good food is. Our drink was served room temperature. It took forever for them to come back and ask for our order. I/We won't come back, that's for sure."

  • "We were recommended by a friend and looked at the menu and were very excited to go there.We arrived early for a 7:00 pm reservation and had a very nice drink and cheese plate at the bar. When ready we were seated at our table and ordered what we had been looking forward to all day, the sea bass, the waiter initially said he thought they were all out if bass. We were disappointed but decided we would order the tuna instead.The waiter said the tuna was also out.When he came back he said they could do the sea bass.We started our drinks and then he returned and said no, he was sorry, they were all out of both fish.We said we didn't want anything else so he gave us the beer on the house and we left.This was too early to have run out of anything "

  • "Great restaurant in a charming alley along other restaurants. B44 is an interesting spot if you are looking to try something new. Not many places I know of where people go to get paella. The service was good and the food was as well. There is a vegetarian paella that is decent (it was a little bland and can use some more seasoning, I asked for salt and pepper). Great place to have something different."

  • "I liked the location and it was a cute Spanish restaurant, we ordered tapas which were sort of hit or miss. The octopus wasn't great, neither were the veggies but the lamb was great. The shrimp had a bit of sweetness to it which was different but still good. Ordered the most expensive wine that they had by the glass and it wasn't very good. Tasted like it had been opened for too long. It was nice, but not spectacular."

  • "It'd been a few years since last dining at B44 (have been 4 or 5 times prior), but thought it'd be a great spot to celebrate a friend's birthday. We were seated on-time, but had to flag someone down about 20 minutes later, just to place a drink order. After that (and retrieving our own silverware, service was attentive and good). The food was fine, but not as good as I recall from previous visits. We ordered several things, and requested "chef's pick" for three other small plates. I'd go back again, and recommend it to friends, but mostly because of its location and fun atmosphere and tasty wine selection. Belden Place is like being in Europe -- a gem in its own right -- and I suspect it was just an off-night for the restaurant."

  • "Great Find! The setting for this restaurant on Belden Place is so much fun. We found our way to this alley which feels like stepping into Europe for the evening with open air restaurants side by side and waiters ready to greet you. We had a selection of tapas for dinner and each one was delicious. The ceviche was perhaps our favorite. Our family was going to a show and we told our waiter, who provided excellent tapas suggestions and fast service. Definitely would recommend this place."

  • "My husband and I were looking for a place to grab a cocktail and early light dinner before having to fly back to the east coast on Friday evening. We found B44 and decided to give it a try. What a nice treat. Set in a quaint little spot (Belden Pl. is a neat find on its own) with outside seating, very friendly staff and the food was outstanding. Our server was very knowledgeable about all the food (down to amazing detail) and he helped us pair wine appropriately. We started out with some funky specialty cocktails, then had an excellent cheese plate, boquerones and crab stuffed piquillo peppers. Wish we had time to stay and have more. We would go back again with pleasure."

  • "Went here for lunch. Sat at a table outdoor. Table was very small and hard to fit a paella pan on there!! Also tilted due to the ground not leveled. Can never find our waiter. The waiter for the next section was always available. The grilled lamb brochette was chewy. Vegetarian paella was bland but vegetables are pretty fresh. Ok for a lunch. Won't come back."

  • "The settting at B44 is very comfortable and relaxed. The Spanish food is the real deal and the menu is wide and varied particularly in the tapas arena. It was hard to decide what not to have. The wine list is very well-selected. I would love to go there in better weather and sit outside."

  • "To welcome my friends' first visit to San Francisco, I decided to organize a dinner at B44 because one of them is Catalan and I know he would be pleasantly surprised to enjoy some home cooking here. Upon arrival at the restaurant, we were warmly welcomed by the lovely hostess who herself is Catalan. We ordered a variety of tapas and a bottle of Rioja. The food and wines were very good. My Catalan friend's only comment was that he wished that the food was more robust and hearty in presentation. Otherwise, we had a very enjoyable evening on a cold and wet Frday evening."

Had white shrimp sauteed in garlic, lamb croquettes, peppers stuffed with crab, squid stuffed with sausage with ink sauce, and the paella B44, which had seafood, chicken and chorizo. Service was attentive, lighting a bit dim to my liking, but it's probably as intended. Would go there again."

  • "My wife and I ate here about two years ago had a great experience. The dried meat tapas were fantastic and the paella I had was incredible. My wife really enjoyed her fish. I made reservations for Valentine's 2014 and brought my brother and sister-in-law. We ordered roses and when we got home, we realized there were four roses missing. We did not think of it at the time, but we saw four people leave the restaurant with roses and can only assume these were stolen from ours. The prefix menu was a surprise as it was not stipulated in the reservation. Fine, but the waiter told us his "chef" refused to serve us the dried mean tapas or the Jamón ibérico even though the leg was in plain view. This was not acceptable and we won't be back."

  • "We book a table to celebrate Valentine's day in this spanish restaurante with the idea to taste some amazing tapas and Jamon iberico but the surprise was the menu. It was completely changed and only offered 8 options with a fixed price of $60 per person. The food was ok, but definitely we were expecting another thing"

  • "I went on Valentine's Day. Unfortunately and without any warning on their Web site, we were met with a prix fixe menu. Too late to make other reservations, we were seated. It took 25 minutes to get bread and our drink. The cocktails were terrible! Who shakes a Manhattan and serves it over ice? God only knows what was put in there. We sent back our second cocktail because it was undrinkable. Really. We weren't served our first course until almost an hour after we first sat down and after finishing that, had to wait 30 minutes to get the second. The food was disappointing and bland. The staff had zero interest in their jobs and were seen chatting and messin' around more than working. Terrible experience."

  • "My wife was at a conference and staying just up the street so we ventured down to B44. We split 4 tapas plates. The potatoes, the shrimp, the lamb and the chorizo. My favorites were the lamb and shrimp. All were very good. We also split the cream puff dessert. Made with chocolate ice cream in the center. Excellent. Service was attentive but not overbearing. My wife said the wine recommended by the waiter was very good. 2 glasses of wine, 1 mixed drink, 4 small plates and a dessert came out to right at $100. Would definitely recommend B44."

  • "Our group of six had enjoyed an early dinner here before a half marathon. The service, food, and ambiance exceeded all of our expectations. Our server was plesant and very helpful in negotiating the sumptuous menu. He readily made extra crabs available to those in our group who requested them for a race day boost. I had the special t-bone that was perfectly prepared and very good. Others enjoyed a variety of paella dishes. The portions were perfect. We found the prices to be quote reasonable for the quality of food. We will definitely return!"

  • "Love other Belden Alley restaurants this was first time at B44. Food was delicious and well prepared. Husband had cauliflower soup and steak entree and I had three tapas. The wine list is regionally focused and spot on for the food. The dark chocolate mousse with Malden salt and olive oil granita was the best dessert we have shared in years. It was a Saturday night but the service was "european style" and we were not rushed. We enjoyed football chat with our Basque server!"

  • "All in all, fine. But nothing stood out. We had reservations but didn't need them. We ordered many plates of tapas. Despite the restaurant not being full, all our food came at the same time. We felt rushed, even when ordering dessert - with 10+ empty tables they seemed eager to turn over the table. Just made a pleasant place unpleasant, certainly not romantic."

The paella is great; the wine is amazing; the tortilla española is exquisite and the gambas make you want to come back for more. The owner is super charming and really helped accommodate a large party."

  • "Can't speak for all options on menu but as my friend is vegetarian we selected Paella Hortelana asking for lemon helped but over all pretty bland. We ordered 2 tapas-Patatas Bravas (potatoes) were nicely cooked but a little more sofrito (red sauce)would have helped. Escalivada (warm toasted veggies) mushy and tasteless. Bread was ok. Waiter seemed off/not happy - the couple next to us commented that he didn't ask how their food was. The busboy was great quickly responding to our requests for more water, lemon etc. Had really enjoyed our last visit to another restaurant on Belden Place a few years back , can't say I had a similar experience this time."

  • "We went for dinner and the food, as usual, was GREAT! There's nothing that we had that was bad. The wine is good and the cocktails are good as well. I like the bartender, b/c if you don't like a drink they make you can request one if you have the recipe and they have the ingredients. :) We all shared our food and it was ALL FANTASTIC! We had dessert, that we shared, which was Great as well. We have been here before and will be back again!!"

  • "Great place in an alley surrounded by a bunch of other EU-like restaurants. Came recommended by a work friend, this whole alley is full of good places. Great bar, very friendly wait staff and bartender. Sat at the bar and had dinner as I was by myself. Try the Shrimps served in the little cast iron skillet to your table - sizzling goodness. Owner was hanging at the bar, very friendly. Come enjoy, you'll be happy you did. Oh, made reservation via Opentable, they had me in the computer, rolled right in, everything worked great. I like that too. :-)"
