  • B Star Has an off night
    OpenTable Diner Since 2003

We have been to B Star many times and have always loved it. But our last evening there was a disappointment. We had an 8pm reservation and weren't taken to a table until 8:20. Which would have been fine if we hadnt been treated like we were annoying them for being there. They never told us we would have to wait when we checked in so after 20 minutes of watching others get seated we inquired about our status. They never apologized and had a bit of an attitude when they took us to our table facing the wall, that was clearly for 2 people, not 3, but we squeezed in. Then they were out of their famous lotus chips that we had been talking about for the past 20 minutes. The service was ok after that and the food was as good as usual.

The food is excellent and more diverse than Burma Superstar. And they have BStar's more famous/popular dishese such as rainbow salad. Place was crowded so service was a little slower than normal. The only issue we had at dinner was that they seem not to turn on the AC and the ventilation is not good. So the place was sweltering even though it was about 65 degrees outside !!!

B Star Bar is my new favorite restaurant. First time, I had dinner for a friend's birthday. She had her 1 year old son and we had a fabulous dinner there. Second time, I had breakfast and the food was amazing. Planning to keep going back.

We had the avocado shake and a few things from the happy hour which I believe lasts from 4-7p during the week. We had the pork tacos and platha dipper which were great. The duck lettuce cups were way too spicy. Another good meal although the lettuce cups were spicy and not enjoyable.

I think this is better than their sister restaurant, Burma Superstar. BStar has some of the favorites of Burma, such as Rainbow Salad. But BStar has wider menu selection with a mix of Pan-Asian dishes.

B Star Bar has always been a pleasure. I ask the waiters for suggestions and my only disappointment has been the dipping bread. I found it not very tasty and kind of gummy. Otherwise, everything I've ever had has been superb.

We went to their sister restaurant, Burma Superstar, and while that was good, not outstanding, we thought B Star Bar was outstanding. The food at B Star is more Pan Asian Fusion. The duck lettuce cups appetizer was delicious, and would be plenty for an entree. The roasted sea bass over spinach was amazing. The bass was cooked tender, flaky, moist, and had a perfect and flavorful crust. The lamb curry was also very good. The lamb was melt-in-your mouth tender. We will definitely go back at B Star.

The food is just a good, with an incredible mix of flavors and textures, and it has the same fantastic service. We had the tea leaf salad, brussels sprouts (maybe my favorite dish!), bread, pork and pumpkin stew, and the sea bass. Everything was cooked perfectly and was great. I enjoy this place. All the servers are very knowledgeable about the food and made accommodations for my friend who is gluten-free. We loved the tea leaf salad and the brussel sprouts. This is a sister restaurant of Burma Superstar with all their same favorites such as the tea leaf salad, samosa soup and rainbow salad but without the 2-3 hours wait. I made an early dinner reservation on Friday night for the happy hour and when I arrived, the server told me HH changed that day and it's only Mon-Thurs. Big disappointment there. If you are going to make such a drastic change, please also change it on your website and inform and/or call your guest ahead of time who made reservation specifically during the HH time.

One day we'll learn what it's like to go to B Star and NOT start with the tea salad and the B Sprouts, but I don't know when that will be. This is a casual gem with consistently attentive service. At this point we're regulars. Plenty of food for pescatarians and omnivores alike this is pretty darn good pan-asian fare. The happy hour is a deal but their regular prices are very modest as well.

Three of us ate well for about $100. We ordered a number of small plates including some of their 5-7 PM happy hour specials. All had some unusual elements without being weird or bizarre. We had lettuce duck cups, sticky mini ribs, ahi tuna, chicken satay, pork tacos, and actually ordered a second plate of the brussel sprouts after we finished the first. The waitstaff was prompt, polite and helpful. We'll definitely go back soon to try some other items we didn't order this visit. When we arrived for our 5:45 reservations the place was nearly empty but it filled up quickly.

  • Gluten Free Heaven!!
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 1/27/2013
As someone who has celiac disease (severe gluten intolerance), eating out is always kind of a bummer because I usually end up with something bland and boring and I'm always nervous that they won't know how serious the disease is and they'll just put soy sauce on something thinking I'll be fine. Not a B Star. They not only knew exactly what celiac disease is, they also knew which ingredients contained gluten and how various menu items could be modified to accommodate me. I was in heaven with my (amazing) tea leaf salad and brussels sprouts (without the gluten-ous furikake). I will be dreaming of those brussels sprouts. I kid not. They were also very kind to our two young children. A total win! Can't wait to go back!

My family and I used to be regulars at this restaurant. However our most recent experience was very disappointing due to the server. She messed up our orders and did not put in my husband's entree order. After bringing out everyone else's entrees and noticing that my husband's was missing, she said nothing. 15 minutes later, she apologized that she forgot to put in my husband's entree order said she would "rush" it but we still waited another 20 minutes. It would've been nice if she brought out something to bridge the wait time. Not only did she not do that, she no longer served us. I felt that was very immature of her. If you made a mistake, own up to it and not hide from it. We will not be going back to this restaurant.

This was not our first visit to B Star Bar, and we had high expectations for another wonderful brunch. Our first mistake was assuming brunch would be available on a Monday since it was a holiday. But we were not disappointed; the Tuna Don was awesome! Seared tuna, sunny-side eggs over rice, and furikake . . . YUM! We also had the Pork and White Beans; VERY tender pork over rice accompanied by bok choy. Bottom line: It was worth the drive and the parking challenges on Clement. We found something on the menu that surprised our palates and satisfied our expectations.

Excellent food. I have never been disappointed. I've been for brunch/lunch 2xs and it can get a bit crowded, but food is excellent. Speedy service and although it gets crowded, it is a pleasant experience. Also went for dinner on a Wed eve at 6:30pm and it busy, but not crowded at all. There is an entire back room that is quite quaint and can seat for larger groups. Nice and toasty with the heaters. Try the Tamarind Beer! It is excellent. Brussel sprouts side was also good. Big side portions for sharing.
