  • "I have been going to B. Smith's for years. This was the firat time in almost a year and i was very disappointed. We were seated on the upper level and there was only one waiter. he couldnt keep up with the crowd. Our drinks didnt come until after the appetizers. Also, they seemed to be out of many things including wines and some entree's. Also, the bar tender was very loud and could be heard all over the restaurant. Very disappointing experience."

  • "I had been to B. Smith's years ago and was excited to take my mother there for her birthday before seeing a show. Our reservation was for 6:45 and we were on time. However, our waitress did not arrive at our table for 10 minutes. We ordered from the Pre Fixe menu to try to ensure we would make the show with no problems. Well, no dice. By the time our entrees arrived at 7:30 I knew that we were going to be rushed and I asked that they pack up our included dessert. I even asked that they bring the check so that I wouldn't have to chase the waitress down before running out for the show. My mother enjoyed her meal so I'm happy about that, but I found my meal lacking and am unlikely to return any time soon."

  • "My girlfriend and I were seeing the play Sistas a few doors down from B. Smith's so it was the perfect location. The service and the staff was great and the food was extraordinary. We had unlimited mimosas with our meal as well. It was a fantastic afternoon all the way around. This was my third visit to B. Smith's and each time I came with different groups of people, on different days and different times of the day. I have always walked out feeling good."

  • "This old time classic restaurant used to have a nice lunch menu but clearly that was in the past. They are only open for lunch on Wednesdays and therefore seem to have an extremely limited menu. I brought my daughter and granddaughter and had a most disappointing yet expensive lunch. That will be my last time going there. While other restaurants are busy for pre-theater lunches, this restaurant was empty. Probably dinner is fine but I did not see a dinner menu."

  • "I arrived at this restaurant with a reservation for one. The manager came over & introduced himself which was a very nice touch. However, it took me a bit a time to get a server to take my order. When I motioned the server over, she said, "Oh, I was waiting for your other party!" All this inspite of the fact that my reservation was clearly for one. I had the maple bourbon cocktail which was good but I found in my travels seems to be ever present this season in NYC. Then I had the pineapple wings which were good, although I like my wings a bit spicier. My entree was the Swamp Thang which was shrimp & scallops in a creamy sauce with collard greens on top. I know collards can be bittter but these weren't treated to cut the taste."

  • "I've eaten here many, many times but this was the FIRST time I was disappointed. The waiter was "unprofessional"; the food was mediocre at best; and many things on the menu were not available. I requested two wines on the wine lines, both of which were NOT THERE. I could go and on. I will eat there again, but this time was not very good; perhaps just an off night."

  • "The staff at B-Smith's is always polite. My appetizer, a Kale Salad, was served w/stems and became ridiculous to try and consume, so I left it. My entree, Shrimp and Grits (4 shrimp and THICK grits) were swimming in whatever that red sauce is. My partner had the fried chicken, said it was fried "hard" which he prefers; to me it appeared burnt. His Monterey Pepper Jack Mac & Cheese was more Monterey or maybe white cheddar than Pepper Jack; it did NOT look appetizing. Some restaurants serve M&C in its own dish w/a nice cheesy brown top to break thru; BSmith's small serving looked like it came out of a Kraft box. The Collards were boiled in water and had little to no flavor. This is our 4th visit to B Smith's and it will be our last..."

  • "Many years ago (I think it might have been at a different location), I ate there and thought the food was fantastic. Most recently, I went to the 46th street location and I was disappointed. The food was tasteless and the service was slow, even though we told our waiter we had theater tickets. My friends and I ordered the catfish and shrimp and grits. The catfish was bland and the shrimp and grits was in a soupy tomato sauce that had no special flavor. I would not recommend this place at all."

  • "I have visited this restaurant before and enjoyed it. This time I made a reservation and was seated at the side of the entrance. Because it was a very cold day, our accommodations were not comfortable. Additionally, after our food was delivered our waiter never checked with us to see if all was well. My fish was delicious, but my greens and yams were cold."

  • "B. Smith had such an alluring menu (fried chicken, collard/turnip greens, cornbread, black-eyed pea soup!) that I wanted to eat there pre-theater. The pricing was reasonable. However, I was a little let down. I had the fried chicken. It was served with collard greens and black-pepper macaroni. The chicken pieces were what we might consider small, but that told me they were locally sourced and not from a factory. The pieces were good and the batter was yummy, but the breast piece was dry. The black-eyed pea soup was very good but a little salty. Collard greens were a bit bland and a little over-cooked, but the bread pudding was awesome. Only our waitress needed work. She did not stop by after our food was served and our drinks were empty."

  • "It was a rough start as we got seated it took awhile until the server came over to take our drink order. Then we continued to wait and wait while tables that got sat after us got their drinks & apps. After I said something the server said he was waiting on the bartender! Finally after approx 10 min our drinks came and we ordered food. I am fine waiting if they are busy all at once but at least get the drinks or bread. Food was ok. We enjoyed the unlimited mimosa."

  • "We had the pre-theatre dinner during the Saturday evening pre-theatre rush hour. No problem with the food, but the service was off kilter. Our first course arrived before our drinks. When I ordered a glass of wine with the meal, it was some time after the meal was served that it arrived."

We ordered from the pre-fix menu and most of us selected the fried chicken which although flavorful it was salty and over fried. The collard greens and macaroni and cheese was great.   • "We've had many good meals at B. Smith's. Our last visit was a bit disappointing. We had the Restaurant Week menu. The dressing on the Kale salad had too much vinegar, the Fried Chicken was too salty, the Macaroni & Cheese that accompanied it was too spicy, and the Mashed Sweet Potatoes were too sweet. I hope this was just a glitch, as we're fond of dining here."

  • "I heard great things about B Smith's restaurant b/c I’m from the south. The atmosphere was great, nice music & pleasant staff. Service was decent. Two complaints. #1. I felt rushed to eat my meal. Bus staff came by every 5 minutes to see if I was done. guest are allowed to eat and talk you know. I did not feel like I could do that here. NOTE TO STAFF: please allow guest to enjoy their meal & conversation. We are paying for that. Honestly, if I wanted quick service, I would get take out or fast food. #2. The food was bland. How can this be southern cuisine WITHOUT THE SEASONING. Overall, come here for the drinks & the ambiance. If you want true southern cuisine, go to Delta's in New Brunswick, NJ. Their food takes me back to SC every time."

The bar and dining area are separated by a partition, and the waitress reached over the partition to attend to us.--how tacky! Thankfully, the manager was genuinely concerned and offered to accommodate us. He was so nice that it made-up for the somewhat bad experience."

  • "We had a reservation at B Smith's. They only offered a brunch menu which is my own fault for not inquiring however, the prices were outrageous. I ordered a kale salad .. i was informed they may be out of kale but would a garden salad be acceptable? I said yes - it arrived soggy with way too many onions in it and i was charged $15! The chicken and waffles ordered by 2 of my friends was dry, unattractive and not very tasty. My burger was a hockey puck. Not a great experience!"

And it was the last day of restaurant week and each of the 3 courses were superb. I looked up her black eye pea chowder and her grits and shrimp recipe to replicate during the week."

  • "Loved everything from the hostess to the personal greeting from the owner's husband. The food was great, only it wasn't hot once it arrived, it was barely lukewarm. We also ordered a kale salad, but we received mescaline instead. It wasn't worth making a big deal over, because overall the food was delicious and we had a great time. I love this place and will definitely dine here again!"

The selections were notable but didn't place the restaurant on the definitely would come back list. It was my first time getting the Shrimp and Grits and I was not disappointed. Bread could have been warmer but the bread pudding was amazing.. I believe that our server did the best she could but screwed up our drink order which impacted our bill. I would return but most in my group would not be returning any time soon."
