Diner Reviews
  • "Didn't have the moules. That was probably my mistake. The carbonnade was merely OK."

  • "First time I visited had a great burger at the bar and delicious fries. Went for brunch. Chicken sandwich was great but fries were a mess. All clumped together as if they had been stepped on by elephants. it was evident I had gotten the bottom of the pan of what must have been cooked hours ago. Unfortunate because if there is one thing this place should get right it's the fries."

  • "Great selection of mussels and choices for vegetarian friends. Terrific beer - love the grimbergen. Quiet enough to talk to our friends, but still felt festive."

  • "The mussels were delicious - great seasoning and well cooked. The fries are impossible to resist! I split one order of mussels with a friend and it was enough for two. We also shared a salad that was exceptional -- fresh and creative combination. The menu goes way beyond mussels and I will go back and try other dishes."

  • "We enjoyed our meal. The beef stew was excellent so was the daily special chopped salad. We also had a tasty flight of Belgian beer. Portions were large, table was a little small."

  • "We had a really nice experience at B Cafe. The beer list is unique and it is always fun to sample new types of beer; the menu is also great and the service is friendly."

  • "We ate a fabulous brunch there on Saturday and ended up back there for dinner on Sunday. I wanted to try their mussels and they did not disappoint."

  • "Amazing list of beers. Quite charming decor. Service was a notch above the usual on top of well-prepared food means I will be back!"

  • "Great food/awesome french fries and amazing service! My ONLY complaint is that the tables are very close together. Totally would go back though..."

  • "I loved B Cafe. The food was exceptional, plus the beer list (on tap) is second to none. Good stuff. Will return often."

  • "Perfect neighborhood, round-the-corner place. Friendly staff. Could imagine you are in Belgium (or even, at a stretch, Paris) and be startled to step out after the meal onto Amsterdam Avenue."

  • "2nd time dining here and both times great. Menu is varied and well priced from bar food with a twist (a duck club sandwich and a spicy lamb sausage "hero") to mussels (had the Provencale and Red Duval (the best !!) to main dishes. Very Belgian with beer list that reflects this heritage. Portions are generous for the price and staff was accommodative. And I don't care what kind of diet de jour you think you are on - but if you don't have the exceptionally crispy frites....well then why even bother getting out of bed in the morning."

  • "My wife and I used to go to B. Cafe a lot when we lived in Manhattan, and decided to treat ourselves on a trip in one night. The service was a bit slow, but the may have been short staffed. The real disappointment, however, was with the food. In the past, everything off the menu tasted good, but this time we found that many items had changed and weren't as good. For instance, the calamari appetizer used to be in a garlic sauce, but now is just ordinary fried calamari - nothing special, and it didn't taste all that fresh, either. The skirt steak was not tender at all and was slightly overcooked. And the clams, which was always their signature dish, weren't as good as they normally are."

  • "B Cafe has a great selection of Belgian beers with genuine Belgian cuisine. They moules are the best and never disappoint. Do not skip the salmon pastrami which is good AND healthy."

  • "My wife and I had been at B. Café West before and we liked it. However, when we for Thanksgiving in November 2013 the food was disappointing. I had turkey with all the trimmings and the food was tasteless, the turkey was dry, the sprouts were undercooked and almost raw and the presentation on the plate was as if the food was just dropped there without any care for detail. I do not remember the exact amount the bill was, but it was too high for so little satisfaction we had had."

  • "Was there for NYE. Crowded, but got a reservation for 8:45 the morning of and was seated promptly. Only complaint was dessert wasn't very good. But entrees and appetizers were terrific."

  • "Had lunch at B.Cafe West prior to attending Symphony Space matinee performance. Atmosphere was warm and cozy, service was attentive and there was a great selection of beers from which to choose. Belgian specialties including stew and frites (of course) along with Croq Monsier were all delicious. Save room for desert...the Tart Tatin with pears and the Belgian Waffle with Chantilly were outstanding! Go and try the Kwatz beer!"

  • "I had fish and chips - chips were good, fish was not too firm and too much. We said they should have more quality and less quantity."

  • "I've been here twice. The first time, brunch, was mixed. The server mixed up decaf and reg coffee orders. But I really liked my food and the atmosphere. This last time I went for a late dinner. Shared the beet salad, calamari, and moules marinieres. Our server was very friendly and patient with our group. Our water glasses were promptly filled and they were great at taking away the empty mussel shells. For brunch I had experienced a very European style of service (laid back and disappearing) but this late-night experience was the epitome of efficiency. The food is not mind-blowing or inventive, but solid and GOOD. The calamari were lightly breaded and crispy, the salad had a lovely citrus vinaigrette, and mussels, of course, were delicious."

  • "this was the noisiest, most cramped restaurant i have ever had the misfortune to visit. the good food does not compensate for the sheer misery of claustrophobia& ear-splitting acoustics. the only time to eat here is if you can dine outside."

  • "I wanted a special but unpretentious place for my first meeting with the out-of-town parents of my son's fiancée, who were in New York for Thanksgiving weekend. We had brunch at B. Cafe UWS (they were staying in the area) last Sunday and it was lovely. We were seated immediately at the table I had requested in advance. Staff were gracious, discrete, attentive. Eggs Benedict and pommes frites and a bottle of Prosecco to toast the happy couple all came in for around $200 including tip, which is amazing in NYC! I was able to deal with the check out of sight of the table so no struggle with the guys in the group. My future daughter-in-law's parents loved it and I hope this set the tone for our relationship going forward. Thanks B. Cafe!"

  • "We were visiting for Thanksgiving and stopped by for brunch. We ordered off the brunch menu and then were later told that brunch is not served on Thanksgiving. We had our hearts set on that menu, so that was a bit of a disappointment. The wait staff was very nice and we did find other dishes off a second menu. We will try again, just not on a holiday."

  • "We had a good time last week at this place - cozy and the eggs benedict were cooked perfectly! We are always looking for a brunch place that is reasonably priced, not too crowded and has good food. This met all our criteria with the minor annoyance of being too hot at first, then too cold. But overall a pleasant experience!"

  • "Been here several times & everyone I have taken has loved it. French fries are the best and the all-you-can eat mussels hit the spot. The choice of beer is great. The beer that comes with the all-you-can eat mussels is very good. I've not tried any other dishes, but talking with other patrons indicates they are well liked. The only slight negative is that it is a narrow place and the tables are a little close together. But people are friendly and considerate and it ends up being fine. Wish they had a larger space."

  • "How lovely to come across this Belgian cafe with simple ambience. Certainly not for large groups, as it is a long narrow restaurant, and is quite tight. With an unpretentious ambience and wait staff busily attending to your needs, I'm willing to go back to try more of the Moules Frites, fresh mussels served In traditional eye-popping sized pot with the most incredible Frites, which, by itself are great, yet they give 3 different flavorful dips. I do not like french fries. So, if I say it's great, it's really great. I would prefer to have had larger mussels, and for more elbow space (but then again it's a cafe), however, a 4 star from me is pretty high."

  • "There were a couple of really noisy infants that spoiled our dining experience. The Country Pâté and the Steak Frites “Belgique” both were excellent. The Belgian Frites not so good. I had the frites at Les Halles yesterday -- lots better."

  • "Nice ambience, but hit or miss on the food. Excellent pesto pasta, good grilled chicken, but very dry pork tenderloin. Fried calamari were rubbery. Excellent dessert waffle. Prices too high for the food quality."

  • "Besides having great food and an amazing array of beers, the thing I like the best about B-Cafe is that when you make a reservation, they always have your table available at the time you set. There is no pushing you to the bar to have a drink or two before seating you. With that as a practice, I don't mind going early to have a drink!"
