A word from B&G Oysters
B&G Oysters is a modern yet classic take on the oyster bar. Located in Boston's South End, B&G Oysters has a decidedly neighborhood feel, combining polished but friendly service with fantastically fresh seafood dishes and food-friendly wines. B&G Oysters has received many accolades over the years for its cuisine and wine program including "Best Seafood" in 2007 and 2008 by Boston Magazine.

This subterranean spot draws energy from its open kitchen which is surrounded by a white marble bar. In warmer weather, enjoy drinks and more on the stone patio; a favorite outdoor dining spot in the city. Please note that all reservations are for the interior of the restaurant. Our patio is available solely on a walk-in basis.

Table for two. We had some oysters and 4 appetizers. Oysters were excellent and very fresh. Appetizers were good but none really memorable. No ringing endorsement but would go back to try the entrees. Service was excellent with perfect timing.

After a very expensive average meal, I was extrememly disappointed when I got home and noticed a parking ticket on the windshield of my car which I valet parked. I immediately called the following morning and was told that the valet co. would contact me to resolve this issue. To date, I've recieved no call, and quite frankly I believe a restaurant that comes so highly rated should have gone out of their way to eliminate a third party resolution.

It took nearly 45 minutes to get a dozen oysters to our table. Our server did nothing on her own to acknowledge or apologize for that, and offered no assurances that she was trying to get them to go faster. Food was good (I had the monkfish, my brother had the lobster roll), but certainly not memorable. For the price, overall just not a very good value, and not someplace I'm dying to get back to ASAP.

The temperature inside the restaurant was unbearable. Most of the patrons (including myself) used a menu as a fan for the entire evening. They claimed that the a/c was on. If that's the case, it should be fixed as it was definitely not in peak working order on Saturday night! Also, the food was delicious, but I miss the old menu! Service was great too.

This is not my first time at B&G and I have enjoyed immensely the other Barbara Lynch restaurants. But it is the first time I have been disappointed in the food. The exception were oysters and the white asparagus starter. Three other dishes were mediocre at best. The mussels, I would have sent back at 99. In fairness the waiter and manager responded to our comments and took them off the bill. The service while not stellar was acceptable. I will return to The Butcher Shop and No.9 Park but I will no longer recommend B&G, Neptune Oyster has my business.

The restaurant is very small, but it adds to the ambiance. The bar seemed like a great spot to have a drink. The atmosphere is great with an open kitchen and there is an outside dining area available first come first serve. We had a group of 4, seated at a table inside that looked best for 2, however, surprisingly we were not that cramped. The menu is a little limited with the majority of the options being fried (fried calamari, clams, oysters, sole, etc.) I got the stuffed lobster, which consisted of unbelievably sweet, delicious, lobster meat, but it left me hungry- quite disappointing at $55. Another in our party had the scallop entree, which looked more like an appetizer. The artichoke appetizer with parmesan aioli was excellent!

B&G was a fabulous find. Originally, we tried reservations at No. 9, but were happy to find B&G instead. The food was superb. Don't leave without trying the Fried Oysters. The scallops entree is not to be missed...so succulent and sweet. B&G does need to work on their desserts though. The panna cotta was so incredibly dense (like they spilled too much gelatin into the bowl). I prefer a more tender panna cotta like in Italy. The Rhubarb coulis was a good touch. Forget the ricotta bombolini. They are too large which makes them too doughy. BIG BALLS OF DOUGH. I like them smaller, with a crunchy exterior. The chocolate sauce was too tart (I'm not sure what they add to it). But all in all, it was a wonderful evening.

On May 25, the food was really good, but all tables around us had extreme problems getting their food and drink on time. We were given desserts and a couple of glasses of wine free, but still, it was 2 1/2 hours for three courses; apparently even worse for some of the others

Extremely overpriced-- especially with regard to wine, and entree. The food is above average with good ingredients, but this does not justify the entree or appetizer prices ($14 dollar salads?) This limits my enthusiasm for this place- would rather go to No9 Park- and spend 20% more for a better value

Eh. Everything was fine, but it was expensive. Perhaps in these economic times, I'm expecting to be wow-ed when I plunk down top-dollar, and this was just OK in food, service, and ambiance. Which reminds me, the bread in the lobster BLT was much too chewy to take bites of like a sandwich. I did my best with the (butter) knife and fork provided, but I really needed a steak knife to saw through that bread.

The food quality was excellent. I would have preferred more seafood items without all that frying. I wish there was more traditional seating without the high tabletops and chairs. It was pretty cramped in there for four persons up against the side wall. The music was too loud. It was hard to hear and talk over the background music. I don't know if I would go back.

The food at B&G Oysters was fantastic. We loved the baked stuffed lobster (with a delicious chorizo stuffing, accompanied by black truffle mac & cheese), and the lobster BLT was a revelation. We also enjoyed the large selection of oysters and the cool gray, softly lit space. We were a bit disappointed by the limited dessert menu, but the only thing that would make us hesitate to return was the service. Our server was knowledgeable, but curt, and she was so reluctant to provide information that we had to press for help choosing oysters and wine. But overall, B&G Oysters was a really enjoyable experience, and we would almost certainly go back again.

Food is sophistically prepared and presented. LOBSTER BISQUE is a must try. My 14 years old daughter likes this restaurant. One comment is about our waitress, she pulled only 1/3 of glass of white wine for me, and charged me 'a glass of wine $12.00)'. She didn't introduce 'Today's special', as other waitresses did to other customers adjectent to us. She was still well tipped, and she should thanks for the chief.

B&G Oysters is a little too hectic as diners get caught up in the rushing around the small restaurant by wait staff and cooks that prepare all meals only feet from the patrons. The food is excellent though and would go more often if the pace wasn't so frenetic and the music level was dropped several notches.

They're doing everythng right, so I have no improvement suggestions (OK, maybe add 1-2 more entrees?) I picked B&G for someone from out of town who wanted fish. Eating at B&G was enjoyable with its vast selection of oysters. We enjoyed having the chef decide on our selection. Our appetizers of bibb salad and squid carpaccio were delicious however we were disappointed with our ocean perch. While the fish was cooked well, the description on the menu was not clear as we did not know that the fish would be served on a salad of spring vegetables. The dish was a bit bland as most of the flavours came from the fennel puree. However others in our party immensely enjoyed their entrees such as the bolognese. The service was good/fair as our server often could not be spotted but was attentive to our needs when she saw us. However she did not ask about our entrees and we didn't want to make a fuss.

I've been to B&G many times and keep going back, which is a testament to what I think of the place, not to mention the owner. A tad expensive, but it's worth every penny. The fish is always done to perfection, the fried foods are the best anywhere, the wines match the food, the oysters are the best/freshest I've had anywhere in the world, the lobster rolls are sublime.
