A word from B&G Oysters
B&G Oysters is a modern yet classic take on the oyster bar. Located in Boston's South End, B&G Oysters has a decidedly neighborhood feel, combining polished but friendly service with fantastically fresh seafood dishes and food-friendly wines. B&G Oysters has received many accolades over the years for its cuisine and wine program including "Best Seafood" in 2007 and 2008 by Boston Magazine.

This subterranean spot draws energy from its open kitchen which is surrounded by a white marble bar. In warmer weather, enjoy drinks and more on the stone patio; a favorite outdoor dining spot in the city. Please note that all reservations are for the interior of the restaurant. Our patio is available solely on a walk-in basis.

Diner Reviews
  • "The three of us had a lovely late lunch sitting on the patio outside. Contrasted to the "lively" ambience inside, we first were the only table sitting outside, later joined only by another two tables. After an initial delay of having to wait too long for the waitstaff, the lunch and service were terrific. One-and-a-half dozen oysters, a tasty snap pea salad, a lobster roll and lobster BLT later, we left happy and satisfied."

  • "All about the Oysters and Seafood and they never disappoint. We're not in Boston often but this is one of go-to must visit while in Boston. Fantastic selection of the freshest Oysters complimented by a innovative wine and beer list. The place is always buzzing with excitement and anticipation and the smells and wonderful. Keep up the great work."

  • "NOT A SINGLE PERSON MADE US FEEL WELCOMED. IGNORED THE ENTIRE time! My friend and I were celebrating a 50th Birthday and made notes in the open table. The staff made no mention of any special luncheon. Honesty, they could not care a less whether we were dining or NOT! This high price dungeon needs to greatly improve their customer service. I ordered the oyster three coarse pre fix that came to the table right away. My friend ordered just a bowl of soup and it did not come until I was completely finished with all three courses. No one ever ask him when he would welcome his entrée? The oysters were amazing delicious but we can get the same oysters at not your average Joes on Mondays nights for a $1.00 a piece your charging like $3.50 ech"

  • "Best chowder ever. Oysters too good to ruin with anything other than lemon juice. Taste of oysters stayed in mouth which is spectacular and rare"

  • "I kept hearing that this restaurant was great and the lobster roll was amazing. Maybe I expected something that would blow me away like the Lobster roll at Neptune Oyster which I am going to say is the best Lobster roll in the world. This one was just mediocre and the menu was ok. Crab doughnuts were fun and oysters were fresh and tasty. My sea bass was just ok and dessert menu is very limited. Nice fun vibe."

  • "The restaurant was busy..the food was good but the ambience has a noise level too energetic!! It's impossible to talk.."

  • "B&G has a quaint patio and good service. The staff wasn't overly friendly or energetic by any means though. They are called B&G Oysters for a reason- come here solely for the oysters. They have a wide selections and are fresh. For entrees, they are over priced and small portions. The friend oysters and calamari were tasty appetizers. Overall I would suggest this restaurant for a drink and oyster- you can find better seafood entrees throughout Boston."

  • "I took my parents here for my Father's birthday because he loves raw oysters. The service was friendly and helpful when he had questions and attentive throughout the meal. The fried oysters were great for the table and my favorite part since I don't eat seafood was that the restaurant just smelled like good food not dead fish. The bill was heavfty for lunch ($170 including tip for 3 people) but worth it to see my parents satisfied. I'm glad we finally made it here."

  • "B and G is one of those restaurants that takes it's craft seriously. No mailing it in here. In my book, 10% of the restaurants... even popular hot spots... fall under this "Pro" category. Food, service, details... all top notch. Great spot."

  • "Weekday lunch was really duller than used dishwater. Raw oysters delicious, but cooked entrees were utter duds. Moules frites were drenched in an acrid/bitter lemon rind bath. Soft shell crab BLT sandwich was completely not crispy and tasteless . Order any frites, you get short little dreg nubs of potatoes, which are obviously the bottom of the bag, and are not appetizing. If you want real frites? Go to McDs. Love, love, love Barbara Lynch, but this resto leaves so much to be desired. Bottom line: order raw and don't touch cooked."

  • "I really don't know what to say other than every course our plates were wiped clean once we were done. Started with some oysters and the soft shell crab. It's a beautiful thing when you order from the raw bar and the shellfish is shucked as cleanly as possible. The crab was cooked perfectly and left us wanting more. I ordered the black bass entree while my SO ordered the skate wing - both were incredible. To top it off, we had an amazing waitress who guided us through some indecisive moments. She was quite educated on what B & G has to offer and comical to boot! I would eat there every single night of my life if my wallet could manage the trips. Might even be the best seafood experience I have ever had. Thank you, B & G."

  • "The absolute best clam chowder in New England, and anywhere on the globe. Period. The oyster choices are top notch, and the staff is knowledgable without being arrogant. Also, the best lobster roll anywhere. Menu is simple, and sticks to the roots of quality seafood as the center piece. Simply fantastic, and this from a hard core, ex-chef foodie. Now one of my top Boston locations. Nice work Barbara Lynch."

  • "A cozy restaurant that serves the freshest seafood. The clam chowder, oysters, lobster roll, and crab topped diavolo pasta were well executed. The flavors were amazing. Due to the size of the restaurant advanced reservations are recommended."

  • "My husband and I had a wonderful meal at B&G. Great tasting oysters, a fantastic sugar snap pea salad, succulent fried clams and an excellent fish dish. Our waitress was excellent..spot on. I wish I remembered her name. Highly recommend!"

  • "Great oysters, very knowledgeable and courteous, albeit disjointed, service, standard fish fare, not special, very small fish portions. Order extra food; you will need it. Minimal ambience, minimal air conditioning in July. Just like being on a dock. This is NOT a destination. Even if I lived near the restaurant, unlikely I would go there. It is what it is. It works for some people, but not for me."

  • "I went for a romantic special occasion dinner and really was looking for a good oyster bar. Well, there were 11 different choices of oysters from PEI, Cape, Rhode Island, Washington State, etc. We got two of each and were in complete heaven. Our waiter was very attentive and had a fun attitude that heightened the experience. We drank Prosecco and Rose which the waiter noticed if we were getting low and needed refills. Since the oysters were so filling we decided to share the clam chowder and BLT lobster roll. There was not a spoonful or bite that we were not 'mmming' the entire meal. The waiter recommended the BLT over the reg. lobster roll and THANK YOU THANK YOU! B&G was well worth every cent and I cannot wait to go again!!"

  • "I was surprised at B&G oysters. It's an extraordinarily casual restaurant with excellent seafood. Portions are generous. It's perfectly located for an early dinner before going to the Huntington Theatre or the Boston Ballet. The wine list is limited. We'll go back."

  • "As tourists, we seek out spots where there are no tourists and B&G is a fantastic local restaurant. We enjoyed selections recommended by our waiter, Brent, and his guideance was spot on - a seasonal pea salad, fried oysters and striped bass accompanied by a locally-made red wine. All was prepared to perfection. The dining room is small and intimate with the open kitchen nearby for a lovely ambiance."

  • "Had the pleasure of eating in the terrace on a lovely evening. We each had the fried clams with their yummy tartar sauce. The clams were plentiful and full bellied --- the only way to eat them! The French fries were delicious, too. There was nothing left on my plate when they took it away. The service was informal, which I appreciate, yet attentive and well-paced. It was a great place to go for a great meal after theatre."

  • "Oysters were some of the best I've ever eaten, and the dip was just awesome! The fish was also cooked perfectly. Only compaint was that the indoor restaurant was stuffy due to the open kitchen 'fishy, smokey smells' and the large crowd. I think ventillation needs to be improved in order to make the air better."

  • "Dined here on a Friday night, 845pm reservation - they took us 20 minutes early! Service was good though waitress couldn't accurately describe differences between the oysters on the oyster menu! Food was delivered promptly even after we ordered each course separately. The hot salad (little gem I think it's called) was amazing as was the black bass. Not entirely the restaurants fault but table behind us that was there before was obnoxiously loud, yelling screaming, shrieking voices. The open kitchen and exposed metal everywhere does not help to quell these sounds. I would go back though as amazing food."

  • "B & G Oysters lives up to its name as an outstanding Barbara Lynch dining experience. It was crowded early in the evening but our server was attentive and the food was excellent. We did not feel rushed even though people were waiting by the door for tables. This was our first time there and the only problem we had was where to find the valet as we turned into the side street where the entrance is and the valet was on Tremont Street so we missed him. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Overall, I enjoyed my experience. I sat in the outdoor section which was very quaint and relaxing. The service was average but no complaints. My friend and I started off with two different white wines which were perfectly aligned with each of our distinct taste preferences. The fried oyster appetizers was sooooooooo amazing- fresh with a kick of spice! We also ordered two of the crowd favorites: clam chowder and Lobster BLT....... Unfortunately, we felt that both options left much to be desired (maybe we were let down by all the hype, lol). Don't get me wrong, I would come back but maybe just for wine and appetizers only :-/"

  • "halibut was good, but a little dry...oysters were real fresh. friend had the crab fra diavlo, good but crab was not lump meat, just "shredded", different crab style would be better...awesome pea salad, calamari could use more tentacles and was too crunchy. think Barbara lynch should dine here once or twice and see what the end product was...not great like we are used to...waiter had sweaty face and upper lip the whole time...needed to "swab" himself...was kind of gross looking...one of those 'things' that you could not get out of your mind, every time he came over I wanted to give him a napkin.and he needed to be self aware...also, the wine pours were small...just an average meal at a better than average place...hope next time is better...."
