Diner Reviews
  • "came for brunch on a holiday weekend. service, drink, food and ambience were elegant. gave our small party the feeling we wanted, ie friendly but fine."

  • "Had salmon last Sunday that was excellent. The tiramisu, not so much. It was runny with too much chocolate and missing the rum"

  • "This was my first visit to Azzurro and was pleasantly surprised. I have been coming to Richmond for years and have never been overwhelmed with any one restaurant in the city, most are good to above average. (Coming from the Dc and Philly area can spoil you). However, Azzurro had a wonderful atmosphere, the menu had good italian choices and the preparation suited the Richmond palette. I had the chicken Palermo (enough for two meals) and of course had to try the eggplant rollatini which was tender and flavorful. I look forward to going back and trying other entrees. "

  • "First time visiting Azzuro, pleasantly surprised. Great food and service, portions are large, share an appetizer and/or salad. Service was good. Looking forward to visiting again."

  • "Tables close together and noise level too high for our liking, but we overlook those due to excellent menu, specials, and service. Consistent great food but pricey."

  • "Azzurro has great food, an extensive wine list and excellent service. However, when the restaurant is full which is most evenings the noise level can be quite high. During the warmer months dining on the patio is available and noise is not an issue there. Overall I enjoy the dining experience at Azzuro and recommend it highly.."

  • "When looking for a one-of-a-kind place to celebrate anything (birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, Fridays), this is a wonderful option, and it never fails to please. The food is delicious, and regardless of the crowd size, it's possible to have a conversation without yelling. Love the table cloths and table settings."

  • "I was a bit disappointed in the meal at Azzurro last weekend. The dish I ordered, Vitello Incappuciatta was heavy on the cream/cheese but light on flavor. The veal was cooked well, but the rest of the meal including the potatoes and broccoli was rather bland. My husband's meal was not as good as what we have come to expect from Azzurro either."

  • "Fresh fruit appetizer was delicious; wine was quite good. Linguine Pescatore … not so much. Skip the after dinner coffee and hit Starbucks (across the street); the coffee had that "old drip-brew" taste to it. I'd go back - and just order something else. The linguine could have been very good, except that the shellfish were overcooked. The mussels and clams were very tough and leathery. The sauce wasn't quite my favorite, but was still good. Based on this, I'm guessing that, if you stick to beef/pork/veggie dishes (more forgiving when overcooked), you'll do quite well and Azzurro can live up to its reputation; just not the shellfish. And again: enjoy the wine, but skip the coffee; for $3+ for a regular cup, it was not really worth it."

  • "We periodically dine at Azzurro's and find the food and service to be quite commendable. The noise level, however, is a totally different issue. It is so loud that it is pretty much impossible to carry on a table conversation in a normal tone of voice and is the main reason we don't dine there more frequently."

  • "Azzurro has been our go to restaurant for special occasions several years. Our last visit was to celebrate our 39th anniversary. We always have delicious food and service. Never dissappointed."

  • "The service was very prompt. All restaurant employees worked as a team to make it a special dining experience. The food was prepared with attention and was very good."

  • "Excellent in every respect, as always. A table next to the fireplace was especially nice on this chilly and damp evening."

  • "We were seated promptly and our drink order was taken quickly but not served quite so promptly. The food was good and as we have eaten there before we will eat there again. A fine neighborhood establishment."

  • "As an out of town visitor, I have been dining at Azzurro for 7 years, and it is always reliable and consistently good. A bit noisy, and space is tight, but food and service never disappoints."

  • "Our table was ready when we arrived (9PM) but things went downhill from there. The restaurant was so noisy that we had to almost shout to be heard--up till departure at 11. Food was nothing to write home about--and my wife had a "special" that she didn't finish. We took it home and I tried it and saw why she didn't finish it. The only thing special was special for the restaurant--there was so much rice the food cost had to be lowl We had to wait a long time between ordering and appetizers and longer still before the main course--and even longer to get the bill. All in all, Richmond has much better places to eat and enjoy."

  • "The entrees we selected were outstanding and not very good. The shrimp gazpacho appetizer was great. The Tortellini Azzuro was superb. Unfortunately, one of the dinner specials that evening (pasta with tomatoes, shrimp, and goat cheese) was awful. The shrimp were overcooked, the goat cheese was overwhelming, and the sauce too thick, sticky, and bland."

  • "We stayed almost 3 hours at lunch and the staff were not a bit impatient. The bread was excellent, as were our salads, the lobster roll, and the frittata. The dessert!! YUM!!"

  • "This is the second time I have been to Azzurro and both times it has been amazing. The flavors and freshness of the food is amazing. The staff really knows their wine list and are always so helpful. I will definitely go back again and again and again."

  • "The restaurant was very quaint and the food delicious(though the pizza was a little over cooked). The problem was the noise level. There were 5 of us and the person on the end could not hear the conversation at the table. Nor could you hear the person across from you. Probably would not go again with a large crowd. There real isn't much you can do about noise level, but this was a huge bummer. I will know this for next time."

  • "Had brunch with my girlfriend here. We were seated at a nice little two top; big enough to hold our food and drinks comfortably as we ate. Staff was extremely polite and quick to greet us! Food, service, and overall the whole experience, was great. Will definitely come back to 'wine and dine!'"

  • "This is a very dependable restaurant for location, parking, good food and great service. The wine list and quality is excellent but some cocktails are too expensive. Atmosphere is cozy and attractive with excellent table service."

  • "We went for brunch. Our waiter wasn't very friendly or attentive and seem didn't happy to be there. The food was ok, nothing special. We asked the waiter if we could order off the lunch menu but he wasn't very receptive to that. We probably wont go back anytime soon."

  • "Azzurro's is consistently good and everyone always helpful. We love dining there. We live in Midlothian Va now so it is a little bit further from we previously lived but we make it a point to dine there when we can."

  • "My husband and I recently had a baby. We have not been able to have a romantic dinner date since before the birth of our daughter. A month before her arrival we had eaten at Azzurro with a group of friends. I remembered the food and service being excellent. I was very impressed & have been raving over the food for the last 2+ months. So, it was an obvious choice to return. I was impressed with how simple it was to make an online reservation. Our server, I believe his name was Brad, was very friendly, attentive and helpful. The food was outstanding! The mozzarella app. was fresh and delicious. I ordered the Zachetti Di Pere. This is probably one of my all time favorite dishes. My husband ordered Veal Tre Scalini and was also very happy."

  • "The food was delicious, but the noise level was terrible. We were there with special out-of-town friends and probably heard less than 25% of the conversation. Something should be done to enhance the experience."

  • "Overall good but servers have too many tables so you are waiting a bit between needs."

  • "I found this restaurant on Google after searching forever. Great place. The food was wonderful. We are from out of town looking for dinner for a special occasion. Would definitely frequent if I lived in the area. Try the Cheesecake. It is not a piece of flavored cream cheese like most. It was light and fluffy made with ricotta, cranberry and amaretto! AMAZING!!!!!!"

  • "This restaurant is a gem! Ambience is wonderful! The lighting gorgeous, the fireplace...! I thought the service was fabulous! The young lady who was my server was sweet, helpful and very attentive.the food was very good, they have my favorite brand of Scotch, so what is not to love! I will definitely go back."

  • "Our table for 8:30 reservations wasn't ready and the manager nicely "comped" us a round of drinks while we waited. Once seated, food and service were great. Reservation was able to do half portions on salads and pasta entrees which was perfect, especially since we were dining late."

  • "Always one of my favorite places for lunch with friends. Ambience is very good and food is prepared well."

  • "We love eating at Azzurro's when we come to Aruba. The food is delicious and always receive excellent service. I had the shrimp scampi aioli oil which was delicious. However last year I think they were more generous with the amount of shrimp in the dish. The veal Parmesan was also a favorite. The violinist was wonderful!"

  • "Food and service was excellent. A bit loud at times."

  • "I love the food!!! Very good wine list. The service is great. The server knew about the wines, entrees and dessert. It is very loud though, but the food makes up for it."

  • "Food was good, we tasted and shared all 4 plates, shrimp risotto needed work and shrimp was dry and over cooked"

  • "When you try to make a reservation the recording says to do it on open table or on their website...I did early in the morning for a saturday evening table for a reservation at 7...I got a call at 6:00 saying they could not seat me in the restaurant...but they could in the bar. Too late to make a change..??? Im a regular client and have been for years...a bit of disappointment. The food was great but the volume was loud and the service was good but slow. Still the best italian in richmond but really tough to get a table now..."

  • "My husband and I are at Azzurro all the time. Sure, it can be noisy, but it's a busy, popular restaurant, so I would expect people to be talking and having fun. The food is always outstanding, and the same goes for the service. The zachetti is not to be missed - trust me."

  • "Azzurro is our favorite restaurant. You won't find a restaurant that surpasses Azzurro's quality of menu and staff. It wins BEST in all categories!!"
