A word from Azzurra
Azzurra is a rustic seasonal Italian restaurant located in the heart of Chicago’s exciting Wicker Park neighborhood. Upon entering the restaurant, you will immediately feel comfortable – as if you’ve been there before.

Our menu reflects traditional meals served in a home in Italy. As is customary with home cooking – many of our selections are “fatto en casa” or home made. The breads, pastas, sausages and desserts will all be made in house by our team of chefs.

Another pillar of our menu is freshness and authenticity. We purchase what is best, and at its peak, in the market daily – another similarity with the Italian lifestyle. This seasonal selection process ensures our guests receive the freshest ingredients available. Azzurra’s menu is based entirely on this concept and change regularly, including specials. We know when these ingredients are in season, and at their peak, they are also the most flavorful.

We look forward to serving you!

Diner Reviews
  • "Love the Monday no corkage BYOB. That's what the lured me...and the food is what impressed. The braised pork shoulder and the fresh pasta were standouts. They also easily accommodated a request to grill the calamari instead of deep frying it...most places use frozen, pre-breaded calamari...these guys grilled it up to tender perfection. There was no rush in service even though we ended up closing the place down..."

  • "Great food. Great service. The pastas we chose - Cavatelli and something that started with an O - were very tasty and savory. The flavors were rich, but not too rich. And our waiter was really fast and kind."

  • "Very nice Italian restaurant in Wicker Park. Friendly, helpful staff who made us feel very comfortable. Pasta dinners were all freshly prepared and quite tasty. Fried calamari very crisp, not too well done and very good. Dessert Tiramisu light and pleasantly finished off a great meal. All around very good. If you like Italian, you'll enjoy Azzurra!!"

  • "We had never been in this neighborhood and randomly picked this gem for an anniversary celebration. It ticked all the boxes for sure. We got extra special treatment from the manager and complimentary Lemoncello! Of all the places in Chicago to eat, we are coming back here next year!"

  • "It was worth plowing through Milwaukee Avenue traffic on a Friday night to have dinner at Azzurra, an Italian restaurant where you won't find the old standards but rather inventive and delightful pasta and other dishes. Portions were plentiful without being overly so and the wait staff makes you feel welcome. There is lots of street parking although it is limited to two hours, which is ridiculous on a street lined with restaurants, so watch you time and add time so you can chat over a cappuccino"

  • "The gnocchi was outstanding; melt in your mouth. With the pancetta sauce it was memorable. Nice quiet ambience ideal for conversations. Very good octopus and calamari starters. Recommend to all."

  • "Like its older sister Anteprima in Andersonville, this place has a creative, delicious menu in a fun neighborhood, as well as being reasonably priced. Very enjoyable!"

  • "We were excited to come try azzurra but the food was at best average. The potatoes is the grilled octopus were not cooked through and the fish we had was ok but nothing special. Also, the octopus had barely any grill marks. I'm afraid we won't return."

  • "Given the reviews I was expecting a better meal. The waiter recommended the fish special (polenta crusted whitefish) but it was disappointingly dry. Another person in our group ordered the duck and was also disappointed. The pastas were better in taste. The portions if the appetizers were small for sharing amongst four people. There were some different regional Italian wines on the menu that aren't often seen on menus which was one positive."

  • "Excellent neighborhood restaurant, excellent service."

  • "Got tired of long waits in river north so we ventured out west and were immediately seated in a cute restaurant. The menu had a lot of tasty small plates and is vegetarian-friendly (one in our group is a vegetarian). We loved all our dishes: salad, fried calamari, half artichoke, pasta, & pork milanese (albeit very thin). The lemon dessert was good, but the chocolate pudding was just ok... the texture was a little grainy and off. Cute neighborhood gem with reasonable prices, I'd come back."

  • "I had a first date there. They gave us a nice table outside. They table was very wobbly which the waiter fixed. He was enthusiastic and friendly while he took our orders. The first course came out relatively quickly. Then he disappeared. It was close to 50 before before I saw him or our main course. Food was very good. Entertaining watching all the cast of characters walking and driving up and down Milwaukee Ave. Service needed some work. Parking on the weekends is a little challenging. Leave extra time."

  • "The food wasn't great - with the exception of the cavatelli, which was perfect. Appetizers were nothing special, and my salmon was very overdone. We won't be coming back."

  • "Our experience at Azzurra was incredible! The octopus, polenta fries, short rib, salmon, dates filled Gorgonzola, spicy mussels, potato gnocchi and cavatelli with sausage were all truly delicious! The prices are very reasonable and the service was excellent. I hope more people check out this restaurant gem! All 4 of us, in my group, were very impressed and we will be back! "

  • "A fantastic meal in a warm, relaxed atmosphere. The food was fresh and delicious, with wonderful sauces and flavors. Attentive, informed, and unhurried service made it special."

  • "Delicious food with a wide variety. Love the small plate options. Service was terrific with an informative and very personable waiter. Atmosphere was very fun. We felt like we were transported to some hip European cafe for the evening. We will be back."

  • "Great restaurant. Lots of interesting options for vegetarians, but plenty for carnivores too. Lovely use of seasonal ingredients. My only wish is that they would take out a table or two so wait staff can serve effectively. Very lively on a Saturday night, but also quite loud. "

  • "I was really excited to try a new Italian place. The menu and the ambiance looked right on track. The food was good, but not special. The appetizer platter was just OK. The polenta fries were pretty but were served with a boring sauce. I think it was mayo with a little tomato blended in to it. The soprasetta pasta was pretty good. It was tasty and well balanced. My only gripe with it is that it was the size of a small plate, not the size of an entree. "

  • "This place is the sister restaurant of Andersonville's AntePrima. Same great quality food, presentation, and taste. Nice addition to Wicker Park's buzzing Milwaukee Ave strip."

  • "This was our second time at Azzurra, and both times everything has been spectacular. The flavors at this restaurant are wonderful, and the menu has just enough variety. One of the better Italian restaurants in Chicago."

  • "I chose this restaurant because is a sister of Anteprima. It is not even in the same league. Food tasteless or salty, service rude. We were celebrating my son's college graduation and unfortunately it was overall a dissatisfying experience. "

  • "We met friends after a matinee in the city. Both couples drove in from the suburbs and were the only patrons over the age of 35. The food was good, but unremarkable; portions quite small. I wouldn't go out of my way to return. Also, the noise level was more than loud for a bistro atmosphere. Speaking of which, there were some lighting fixtures and not much else memorable in the décor department."

  • "Very nice food and good service with moderate prices but the noise level was painfully loud. I would return on a weekday evening or for lunch but not on a Friday or Saturday night."

  • "Had a group of 7 for a dinner--I picked Azzurra because of the expansive small plates and specials. Can't wait to go back to try the pasta! The bellinis were also delicious!"

  • "This was my second time in Azzurra and I think I'll be back again. Stopped in around 7pm on a Friday and it wasn't busy - no waiting, but by the time I left around 9:30 it was quite packed. Food: Quite good, didn't blow my mind - but for the price it's just about what I'd expect. Service: Our waitress was kind, helpful, and patient the entire time we were there. Ambience: With the front windows wide open to the street, we were a small extension of the neighborhood. Decor was well done, nothing outlandish, simple, clean, classic. Noise Level: Regardless of having that window open, I was able to hold a conversation without feeling like I was yelling or having to ask "what was that?""

  • "Everything was delicious and the service was outstanding! We were a party of 5 and 3 of us arrived early. They showed us to our table and we were able to order drinks and appetizers while we waited for the others. The spiced olives and the pancetta-wrapped, gorgonzola-filled dates were delicious as were the bread sticks. When the rest of the part showed up we ordered the same appetizers again, they were that good, and the buratta. We all loved what we ordered and luckily we all shared. We had three pasta dishes; one with sausage, one with prosciutto ragu, and one with tomaotes and basil pesto, and brick grilled cornish hen and rainbow trout. It was a wonderful meal from beginning to end. "

  • "The food was wonderful and reasonably priced. Nice to have a wine list with affordable choices, too. We loved every bite of our appetizers, dinner and dessert, and can't wait to go back. "

  • "We went on a Thursday night at the end of the dinner rush. The restaurant was quite loud when we arrived, even though it was only about 2/3 full. The wait staff were good enough but not great. They did do a heavy pour on the prosecco, which the BF appreciated; the soave (a quartino) was quite nice. We were looking forward to trying some of the interesting-looking small plates we had seen on line. Most (olives, octopus) were good if not memorable, the day's special polenta-coated fried artichoke hearts were dry and disappointing, the brussel sprout leaves were very good and the blue cheese stuffed dates were delicious. Sort of hit and miss. But worth a try."

  • "The food was good, not great. It was hard to understand the thick accent of the waiters and staff. They got one of the orders wrong. We ordered the cornish hen, they brought orecchiette with sausage. We didn't want to wait the 20 minutes for the cornish hen, so ate the orecchiette. The incorrect entree was not comped, nor was anything else."

  • "This was the second time I'd been to Azzurra. I went to celebrate my birthday, and as expected the food and wine was exceptional. The one downside was the wait for our table. Even though we had a reservation, we were made to wait until our entire party got to the restaurant to be seated. It also seemed to take the staff a long time to figure out the seating for two simple tables. I used to work in the service industry, so I don't speak about this blindly. However, the service was wonderful once we sat down and were seated. I would absolutely come back again. Just be prepared to wait a bit if you come in on a busy Saturday night."
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "I perused the menu before making a reservation and thought this was a great option for us vegetarians. My expectations were exceeded by the presentation, quality, creativity and delicious food. The staff was attentive and helpful in their suggestions. I would definitely go back."
    Dined on 4/2/2014
  • "From start to finish, Azzurra lives up to its reviews...Excellent small plates which were easily shared and entrees which the staff divided among the four of us in the kitchen for easy eating. The noise level rose dramatically as 'the evening continued, but we were out the door at its height."

  • "Wow! I let my 15 year old daughter pick the restaurant she wanted to go to. I figured she'd pick something 'ok', but apparently she has an eye for menus! This place was fantastic. She was thrilled and she is pretty picky, and I was thrilled and I don't like boring. Food was all hot, fresh, flavorful, unique. The brussel sprout leaves were surprisingly fantastic, the sausage in the orrechiette was spicy, but very tasty, the polenta fries were a great twist on french fries, the citrus salad was full of flavor and super fresh."

  • "Found this restaurant when I was searching for Italian near the local theater. It was pretty empty when we first got there but began filling by the time we left. The service was warm and friendly. The hostess and bartender/server were great and knowledgeable about food and wine. Our wine was corked and even after opening a new bottle (also corked), the hostess/bartender came over with a sample of wine they thought we may enjoy. The bartender recommended a number of things on the menu that I really enjoyed. The homemade pastas were great as were the arancini's. The only item that I did not care for was the cake at the end which I found to be dense and too dry. Location (Wicker Park) is convenient to the blue line and only a few blocks."

  • "We loved the food and the friendly staff. The menu is designed for sharing, which makes for a fun dining experience. Because the restaurant is small, it can get loud, but with a later reservation it quieted down during our meal. Everything is reasonably priced and delicious!"
