Azure - The Royal HawaiianFirst Hawaiian Meal - A DelightMy fiance and I ate here as our first meal in Hawaii and ordered the Pre - Fixe. We started with the highlight of our meal, a delicious sushimi of ahi tuna over guacamole and continued on with a seafood cappuccino filled with crab and tiger shrimp. We also enjoyed a pork main course that was tender and flavorful. This all overlooked Waikiki beach which was nice, but we were placed next to another couple when the rest of the restaurant was essentially empty which made it a little less intimate. Overall the food and service was amazing, and although the environment could have been a little bit better, it didn't take away from the meal and fantastic view.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMFood adventureWe decided to take a stay cation and try some restaurants we have never tried before. Azure proved to live up to my expectations of what a fine dining restaurant should be. Our server really impressed me with his knowledge of the ingredients, his attentiveness to making our dining experience special really made me appreciate this restaurant . For the freshest fish, each day fish is bought from pier 38. I enjoyed my preparation of onaga.
My wife had a whole snapper that was quick fried and was to die for. Overall, the service was excellent and the atmosphere was romantic. You walk through the Royal Hawaiian on the way in to the restaurant. Fantastic service. Heavenly fish but the sweet potatoes were heavily spiced with Thai spices that were not mentioned on the menu or by the server. Likewise, the corn and mushroom side dish was disappointing as the mushrooms were elusive and the corn was smothered in heavy butter and spice sauce. The ambiance sells this place. My husband and I went to dinner at Azure on Sunday evening with friends visiting from the Mainland, and it was excellent. Everything we ordered was delicious and beautifully presented. We were there for a special birthday celebration and it was great. It is fairly expensive so be prepared. Had the 5 course tasting menu and every course was fantastic. The poached beef was to die for. The 'Ocean Cappuccino', sashimi and risotto were delicious. They substituted a tasty sorbet for me and brought out a delicious flourless chocolate cake for the birthday girl that we shared and was great. I didn't do the wine pairings as I am not a white wine drinker but 2 of our group did and they were very happy with the selection. The wine selection by the glass is not extensive but what I had I enjoyed. The service matched the superb food.
