  • "Went to Azul to celebrate wife's birthday. Initial table was not good (next to noisy wedding reception) and had to ask to be moved. Second table was much better. But, server seemed to have too many tables to handle. Ordered bottle of wine which came after appetizers, and just minutes before dinner, so switched to just 2 glasses. Food was fine, but nothing to rave about, nothing special. Server made no mention of birthday celebration, no extra effort, no birthday dessert. Silver linings: received "birthday discount" off bill, and no charge for wine. Appreciated reductions to bill to make-up for service quality, but would rather have paid full price and had better experience."

  • "Each time we've been to Oahu, we pick a special night to dine at Azul (our anniversary). The table by the lagoon couldn't be more romantic. Unfortunately this time, there was a problem with the tiki torch by our table, so we had to move, but that was no problem because the restaurant owner, Marco, is more involved in the operation of this restaurant than I've ever seen anywhere. He snapped his fingers and we were set up at a new table in the blink of an eye. He welcomes all diners as if he were welcoming them into his home. With the friendly bartender and attentive waitstaff do NOT miss this restaurant when in Oahu! Andy (food and beverage mgr for the Ihilani?) also went over and above to make sure we had the table we requested."

  • "I was looking forward to a nice romantic meal. The prices are quite high, portions small, steak overlooked, and the dessert was so bad it was sent back. The crime brûlée was soupy. The ambience was nice but there was a loud wedding party right next to us.this was supposed to be the romantic end to our time on Oahu. It certainly was not!"

  • "This was our second time to Azul in 2 years and thought that dinner was just OK. The food was not impressive for what we paid. We ordered Linguine al Pesto Genovese (Linguine with original Pesto recipe, potatoes and green beans) and Fettuccine all’Aragosta (Homemade Fettuccine sautéed in olive oil, garlic, splash of white wine, Lobster and Cherry Tomatoes). Both were mediocre. My husband said that I make better pesto at home and they weren't very generous with the veggies. The 1/2 lobster in my pasta was not fresh, and slightly mushy. For dessert, we shared a strawberry cheesecake that was fine, but again was just OK. Overall, all flavors were kind of flat and we missed the WOW factor we expect from fine dining restaurants."

  • "My wife and I have eaten there many times and we were looking forward to our latest experience, however we were very disappointed this time. The food was not anything out of ordinary but expensive. Carpacchio was tough and stringy. We ordered Belvedere martinis and they brought Skyy vodka without asking permission for the substitution. The entre was just ordinary. We felt a definite decline in the restaurant and will probably not return."

  • "This is the second time I have tried Azul. The food is horrible. Steaks are subpar..and overpriced. I can cook a better one from Costco on my grill. No flavor at all. My wife had the Steak and Lobster and the Filet was like a hockey puck. The chef needs to take the night off and watch how they do it over at Ruth Chris. This is supposed to be an high end Italian restaurant with white table clothes etc. There were people in there with Flip flops on. Needs to have a dress code. The JW Marriott should be embarrassed at the quality of food. I will say on a positive note that the reservation on Open Table was smooth and the server knew what the occasion was for. That was nice. She did check on us throughout the meal but too much."

  • "We were here Valentine's Day this year. I guess Italian food is not the thing to get in Hawaii. There was a prix fixe menu. The only course that was tasty was the fried arugula with mushroom salad. It was unique and well done. Everything else was a disappointment. The lobster in the risotto course and the shrimp in the surf and turf courses tasted as though they had been sitting under hot lamps for hours...something like you would expect ordering from a buffet in Las Vegas or something. The service was sad, too. They did not bring us a bread basket and did not refill my water glass. We were going to leave a low tip but then they slapped on a 20% automatic tip. Maybe it was just an off night given it was Valentine's Day? Who knows."

  • "Our reservation was at 8:30pm, but we arrived at 8:10 to request Stuart as our server -- we enjoyed having him at our first visit. The receptionist said a table would be ready in 10 minutes, so my wife and I waited outside. While we were having a great conversation, we noticed that it was already 8:50! After I complained to the receptionist, it took another 5 minutes before we were seated. After we sat, the server (it wasn't Stuart!) immediately served us with a fixed Valentine meal which we didn't know (nor were we told) we were limited to. I didn't complain since we were very hungry and I didn't want to make the mood worse. What ruined the evening for me was when the server automatically charged us gratuity and no kamaaina discount!"

  • "So close but just not there. Everything was "OK" but nothing memorable. Spanikopita is not a starter, especially not for a surf and turf main course. The risotto was under cooked and bland. The turf potion of the surf and turf was uninteresting. Was expecting more for the price."

  • "Nice quiet atmosphere with a friendly wait staff, but the restaurant was running behind for Valentines Day. We didn't get our first course until over 40 mins after our reservation. Since they were behind the cooks rushed the food. Our risotto was hard and our steaks were very rare (a problem if you like them medium rare)."

We love a good meal especially Italian having lived in Italian before moving to Hawaii. Unfortunately we are still in search of that perfect Italian restaurant on the island."

  • "The waiter was a little bit of a snob telling us about his life and he was a little rude with my wife when she asked if she could have another glass of wine that she originally had while waiting for our table at the bar. He immediately said that wine was not available anymore. He didn't even check with the bartender and didn't know what wine it was. Not worth the $ we paid. will not go there again."

  • "I decided to try here because I was tired of driving to town to eat somewhere great. I also wanted to walk around Ihilani afterwards. We made last minute reservations, got a table for 2 at 8:00PM on a Saturday. It wasn't busy at all, there were only a few couples in the dining area and a large party dining outdoors. We ordered the calamari fritti, lobster bisque, the surf and turf and Gamberi alla Livornese. Each dish was delicious and served promptly. The service was outstanding, exactly what I expected since they were slow. But all in all a great experience."

  • "Due to wind we ate inside - otherwise the marks would have been outstanding across the board. The view out on the pool is beautiful. Food was outstanding anyway. Pasta sauces are genuine; appropriate amount as Italians would serve. We didn't have Secondis, but we did have dessert - gelato may have been from Italian receipe. If so, it was too cold and had ice crystals throughout."

We were isolated by foliage from the other diners and it was like having your on private dining experience inches from their fish pool. Great food and location."

  • "Since we were referred by friends, we had high expectations. The hostess and waiter were very friendly. The setting was lovely, near the pond. What was jarring, breaking the quiet ambiance, however, was the waiter at the next table. He has a very deep voice and spoke very loudly to his guests. Not only could we hear every word but it seemed like he was trying to "sell" items. Our food was okay - but we expected better considering the prices we paid. I was very disappointed in the $12 Lobster Bisque that we ordered (convinced that it was the best Lobster Bisque by that other waiter!). It was very salty - so salty that we couldn't finish it. I was disappointed that it was neither replaced by a new bowl or deducted from our bill."

  • "My fourth visit- again, the apps are over-priced & minimal. Both of our apps were not as described on the menu and small for the price. Pastas were especially good again and steak was good too- simple Floretine-style grilling. Desserts were way too sweet, like in Sicily. I'd return but for the pastas & great cocktail from bartender Chris again."

  • "I have never had such a bad experience as I did that evening. First of all they had almost no liquors or even a limited selection of beers. Food was awful, service slow, very noisy due to party next door. This place is a joke! Go next door to Nau Paka or Hokulea. Great food, better prices, and they have liquor."

  • "They hype around the hotel was that this was the premier restaurant at the JW Marriott. We sat down in this beautiful atmosphere, not too busy only about 5-6 tables, then waited over 20 minutes to get our drinks ordered. Only to find out that the bar was out of blue curacao, which is one of their most used liqueurs. The meal was nothing special, especially when you consider the premium that you are paying to eat at this place. For 2 drinks and 2 entrees, the bill was over $100. The service was horrible, we didn't see the waiter after he took our order until we we ready for the bill. Total disappointment for the amount of money paid to eat at this establishment"

  • "I couldn't find a better food option in the area. Most of the dishes were all classic Italian – not creative, though well executed. The lobster risotto special was quite good. We were sat at a poor table, but when we asked, we were moved to the pond-side table, which was fantastic. Most of the staff was excellent, though I waiter wasn't terribly professional."

  • "I had spent all day in the ER with an esophagus irritation issue that precluded me from having tomotoes, anything spicy etc. I was excited to see there was risotto on the menu as I knew I could eat this without much difficulty. The only issue was it mentioned there was chili pepper seasoning and I knew I could not have this, otherwise I would irritate my throat further and choke. I explained to the waitress what my issue was and it wasn't that I didn't like the seasoning, it was because of a medical issue. The Chef proceeded to tell the waitress I had to order something else then. My husband's sauce was wrong on his pasta too and the waitress refused to even address the issue. I'm a Marriott Platinum member and could not believe this."

  • "What a fantastic experience! We live in the area, and this was our first "date night" since moving to Oahu. We were treated like royalty from the outset. We were seated in a nice, cozy booth that was private but not forgotten. The wait staff was top-notch - completely knowledgeable about the menu, as well as fun and engaging. The food was excellent. Requests or departures from the set menu were not a problem at all. This is really delicious Italian food. It was not cheap. This is a special occasion restaurant (it is in a Marriott resort after all). And - parking is not cheap either, but they may validate (didn't ask)."
