Diner Reviews
  • "I thoroughly enjoyed Azul for an early dinner. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxing. Plus I had a gorgeous mountain view to admire during my dinner. The food was very tastey and the service was excellent. Lovely place."

  • "Sitting on the outside patio with the mountains as a backdrop makes it a pleasant spot to enjoy a meal. The food presentation was excellent and the added flavors of the Southwest make it unique. The wine list is adequate with many selections and price points. It can't compare with some of the top lists in the country but it serves the purpose. Our server wasn't as entertaining as some we had in the past at Azul but overall we were given good service."

  • "We ate twice for breakfast and one evening meal. All were very good and enjoyable. The setting is dramatic and the staff was great. Doesn't get much better!"

  • "The filet mignon was such an incredible dish, plus we had a perfect window view to the mountains. One of the best dinning experiences I've had."

  • "We would not go back to this restaurant. We both ordered medium rare steak, and it was really just medium. We never saw our waiter after the food was delivered, except to ask us if we wanted dessert. When the other man brought out the appetizers, we asked for a plate, and he said we already had a plate that our bread was on!!!! I don't mind paying high prices for good food and service, but we had neither."

  • "Went here for my husband's 61st birthday dinner, and it was excellent. The wait staff was attentive, and they explained how each dish is cooked and the sauces and seasonings that are used. Azul really knows how to cook vegetables. The asparagus appetizer with tomatoes and beans was incredible because it had so much flavor. We shared a Caesar salad, and it was huge with really good dressing. For entrees, my husband had the BBQ chicken and I had the salmon, which were both cooked just right. Again, the vegetables served with the entrees were so good, we wanted to ask for more. We'll definitely go back to Azul. And yes, the view of the Catalina mountains can't be beat."

  • "We both were looking for a very quiet lunch and got in at the tail end of lunchtime. Our main salads were FABULOUS, only disappointment was the polenta croutons that Chef didn't make that day, that went with one of the orders....especially for my Italian friend who was very curious about them and had just arrived from Italy to Tucson....sooooo maybe next time! They did give us a surprise dessert and that made up for the lack of the polenta croutons."

  • "Everything was very tasty. The service was great. The only complaint I had was that it did take a while to get the entrée but it was worth the wait and everything was at the right temperature. "

  • "Our dining experience was just exceptional from the moment we were greeted by the hostess and taken to our beautiful requested window with a view table. Service was spot on and the food was just delicious. Would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys being pampered."

  • "This was the first time for our friend we had brought with us and she enjoyed the whole dinning experience! We wanted to take her to a special place as a thank you for taking care of our dog while we were out of town! Azul fit the spot we were looking for! "

  • "The atmosphere at AZUL is nice. The hotel is beautiful and the restaurant was classy. The waitress was very good when she was there, but nowhere to be seen when you wanted something. The check was slow to come as was the food. When the food arrived it was tasty and hot, so no complaint there. If you sit inside make sure your bring a coat or sweater or wear something warm. The AC is frigid and the waitress said the cool temp was year round."

  • "Azul was an elegant dining experience. The food was prepared extremely well. The menu was small, but gave choices for all tastes. The service was excellent. Definitely a restaurant for anyone interested in truly fine dining."

  • "Azul is part of the La Paloma resort. Have been there 3 times and always enjoy. The food has always been good...It is quiet with a nice view back at the Catalina Mountains."

  • "This restaurant held a big Mother's Day brunch. We went for dinner and it was quiet, but I think most of the staff had gone home or were tired. Our drink order was wrong, our medium rare filets were well done (twice), etc. We did not send our steaks back the second time because it was getting late. Our server was very apologetic. To be fair, we have dined here before and always enjoyed it. They are very accomodating, even if mistakes are made. The were generous to offer a complimentary dessert. The views and setting are beautiful and the staff is friendly. The summer menu is a little limited, we used to enjoy the rib eye steak, now they offer a filet and New York. The pork chop was outstanding. The scallops were a little minimal."

  • "The food is good, the service was terrific and the setting is very nice. The only drawback is the very limited menu. There were very few choices available for us to choose from. I would like to see some more items on the menu."
    Dined on 5/4/2014
  • "This is a wonderful spot to enjoy the views of the Santa Catalina mountains as you eat your dinner. The new menu is out for Spring. The consistent problem is the wait for the main course and even desert to arrive is way too long. If this could be fixed, the ratings would improve."
    Dined on 4/27/2014
  • "Worst margarita I've ever had. Could not even drink half of it. Food was average at best. There are many better places to dine in Tucson at this price point. We will not be comming back."
    Dined on 4/26/2014
  • "Our meal was wonderful & the service was great. We had the lasagna, chicken & fish and everything was fabulous. The setting is absolutely outstanding. We sat outside on the patio overlooking the La Paloma pool and Finger Rock."

  • "Four of us enjoyed a Sunday evening dinner outdoors overlooking the pools and the beautiful Santa Catalina mountains. The waiter was very attentive although the kitchen was a bit slow in preparing the food but it was well-prepared when it was presented."

  • "This was a special dinner for us Azul made our evening very special! We were out for a celebratory weekend and our Saturday dinner was exquisite! We enjoyed dinner so much, we enjoyed a scrumptious brunch on Sunday as well. Thank you so much!"

  • "Took my husband to Azul for his birthday and the dinner was wonderful. Although the menu is relatively small, it had a good variety of entrees. We shared the chorizo-stuffed dates and pea/blue cheese/pecan salad for appetizers. He had the scallops and I had the steak, both of which were cooked to perfection. The view of the Catalina Mountains was great and our server Jennifer was perfectly attentive, checking on us frequently, but not hovering. The evening was very nice and my husband said he really enjoyed this birthday celebration. We will be back!"

  • "We had an early lunch on the patio, where we met friends who we hadn't seen for a long while. It was quiet and suitable for conversation. The food was substantial and very good. We will do it again."
    Dined on 3/17/2014
  • "New York strip ordered medium well by two and medium rare by two and all came the same - well done and tough with lots of gristle and parsnips on the side. Who serves parsnips? For $30 bucks one would expect something a bit nicer, meat without gristle, done to your liking. This was a joke!"

  • "3 days prior to arriving I received a phone call to inquire about my appetizer request. After a few minutes of talking we decided on letting the chief surprise us, and I am extremely happy that we did, I have never seen my wife so happy with the oysters she got. As for the dinner, the only word that come to mind is exceptional, the pork loin was cooked perfectly. The staff never missed a beat, not sure if they do this with everyone but the staff made my wife and I feel as we were the only ones in the restaurant."

  • "A small and cozy atmosphere. Service and food was excellent. It was perfect place for our anniversary dinner."

  • "This resort dining has attentive staff but not hovering. The meals were beautifully prepared, presented, and delicious. I had a New York steak cooked perfectly with creamy mashed potatoes. My mother had scallops which she said were perfect. The dining room overlooks the pool area and the mountains for a fabulous view. Everything was perfect."

  • "This restaurant not only had the best tasting food by far but it also was very beautiful to dine in. The staff was amazing. It was the perfect place to have our wedding dinner. We will definitely will be coming back to Azul."

  • "I loved the outdoor area. Amazing views. The food was good (Try the chorizo stuffed dates - the were delicious). The service was ok; Our food took forever...about 30 minutes. The waiter apologized and comped us a round of wine. There were only a handful of diners outside and instead of spacing us out, they sat people next to us on both sides. Then, the people behind us wanted the patio heater lit because they were cold (we were fine, it was a perfect night). The staff pushed the heater away from their table about a foot towards us. No one asked us if that was okay. I had my back to the heater which was only about a foot away from me. It was too close to us and hot. We ended up paying the bill and getting out of there."

  • "As I wrote on my Trip Advisor review, dining at Azul is a mixed bag experience. The service is always very good. The staff is always willing to oblige individual tastes by making requested changes to the menu items, however, the food often misses the mark. Three of our party ordered the strip steak and the consensus was that it was ok. This is a special occasion place and the food should be better than ok. The ambiance is very good and Azul is good for a romantic celebration."

  • "Restaurant was empty and food was average. Many better restaurants in Tucson."
    Dined on 1/30/2014
  • "The food was great. The service was very good, but the waiter had no knowledge of his wine list. The thing that seemed disturbing was there dress code. We, as were like most of the patrons, dressed moderately casual, nice shirt and pants, etc. As we sat eating our meal a pair of older gentleman that looked like they had just come off the golf course were ushered to a table. But wait it gets even better, here comes the hostess with 3 young girls with very high cut off baggy shorts, tee shirts, and flip flops. The place is beautiful and really classy. Their web site says upscale casual dinning. Just remember that when you go."

  • "We went to this hotel restaurant because it was convenient. The staff was nice but the food was very poor. The hotel will take guests to the many nearby good places and that is a much better option. I had the pork tenderloin and my wife had a risotto dish. They were both tasteless and the risotto was over done. When I asked hotel staff for their recommendations none mentioned their own place. I should have known better."

  • "Long waits between courses, frigid temperatures and mediocre food. Dining area is located in a great hall. It's like eating in the hotel lobby."
    Dined on 12/20/2013
  • "The thoughtful menu, the attentive service and the luxurious ambiance of this hotel restaurant bring us back to it. One of the reasons we like Azul is that it is possible to have a good conversation with dining partners. If it were more popular, it might well be more noisy, which would be a shame. There are far too few quiet restaurants these days."
    Dined on 12/18/2013
  • "It was a little noisy in the restaurant due to a full bar, but the food was delicious, the service could not have been better. It was a little chilly in the restaurant."

  • "Three couples enjoyed a delightful evening at Azul's. Two had the pork dish-two had the salmons and two had the shrimp special. All meal were properly prepared and very tasty. drinks and service were also above par. View of the pool area with mountains in background was a plus."

  • "We dined on the patio. Beautiful evening. Great renovation! No dings, dents, spots in the building or patio. Great service, a very nice Red Zinfandel, great scallops and steak. Not noisy. No overly attentive service, but there when we wanted them."
    Dined on 10/23/2013
  • "Despite the nice atmosphere and helpful waitstaff, our meal was a disappointment: 1. the shared salad was a small portion (kind of expensive) and the dressing(with sour cream?) was terrible; 2. the portion of scallops was too small, considering the price(3 scallops on a plate?); 3. the strip steak was dry and tasteless(appeared medium, as ordered, but.....) served only on some wilted greens. not much pizazz! In short, an expensive meal but not worth the price."

  • "Pork chops had weird flavor, Salmon served with limp greens boring, steak only okay---chicken very good."
    Dined on 10/15/2013
  • "Well, maybe--we did enjoy our dining experience. Azul has fine dining in many respects. I had the scallops and my husband had the filet of beef. Both portions were on the smallish side. Inquire about what comes with your meal. The menu did not mention that risotto came with the scallops; then again, there was such a small serving maybe it didn't count. The menu is very limited, but all items seemed to be well prepared."
