Diner Reviews
  • "The atmosphere was very pleasant but was discouraged because they closed the kitchen at 9pm."

  • "The drinks and appetizers are really good. While the hostess was not nice or accommodating (we almost left), the servers were great and friendly. I love the chocolate martini, which came with an extra does of chocolate. They have an outdoor area, which is nice, but can get boisterous."

  • "Went to AYZA the other night to catch up with former colleagues. When I made the reservations, I forgot I had been there years earlier with a different former colleague for lunch. I thoroughly enjoyed myself again the other night. Our server was polite, kind, attentive and funny. Because of all the wine, sadly I don't remember her name. My friends and I went through 2 bottles of a yummy, affordable Cabernet recommended by the server and feasted on the yummy appetizers (brie bites and yummy small mushroom pita pizzas). When we first arrived, the place was quiet but by the time we left, it was hopping. I absolutely recommend this place. good for a date, good for friends catching up! Enjoy."

  • "Wine & food were both delicious. Server was very attentive. This place is small which I like. The filet mignon medallions over arugula was delicious! We were pleasantly surprised to find it was ladies night and we received a discount =)"

  • "My last night in the city before flying back to Florida could not have ended any better, the soup was wonderful, my Tarine delicious, and desert great. It's ambiance really cozy. Relaxing and yummy make for a great place to unwind."

  • "Ayza is my go-to place in midtown. It is easily accessible no matter where you're coming from (Penn Station nearby, easy access to nearly every line coming from BK, other parts of Manhattan, etc.). The food is great, the wine is great, the chocolate is great. Staff is professional, and their outdoor covered/heated patio is the best on a cool almost-spring day."

  • "I took my girlfriend here for our one year anniversary after seeing a show. We went for dessert and a drink. We ordered the 20 layer crepe brûlée cake and two martinis. I highly recommend the espresso one. Great ambience, romantic lighting, upbeat music that was loud but still could carry a conversation. Would definitely go back to try the food. Plus our waitress was very attentive."

  • "Out of this world "Chocolate Martini's." I traveled from a Gordon Ramzey's at London Hotel dinner, because they did not have their lava cake which I had promised to my wife. We googled lava cake and found this treasure. The lava cake was divine! Tiny, cozy, but I must go back. I'm so glad I don't live near this chocolate heaven. #dietkiller"

  • "Ayza is great. Been there many times. Food and wine menus are perfectly paired. It was a bit cold under the outdoor tent and they forgot to check us in when we got there so my open table reservation showed as a "no show". Overall it was a great dinner and I plan on going back soon."

  • "Absolutely a beautiful romantic dinner for my husband birthday. We enjoyed ourselves, did some wine sampling. Delicious, Delicious. We will be back"

  • "My favorite thing about the restaurant was the music....standards sung by Sinatra, Dean Martin, Michael Bublé, Nat King Cole. The chocolate desserts and the sparkler for the birthday boy were big hits, too. Lunch prix fixe was tasty but the portions were disappointing, particularly for the men in our group. Overall, the food was yummy and the menu had selections for every palate. I'd dine here again and sample more bon-bons the next time around."

  • "If you were looking to have a nice girls night out with your best friend or romantic meal with your loved one...this is the perfect spot! The quality of the food is fantastic and the service is quick and efficient. I really enjoyed my visit with my best friend but the rose petals and truffles were a great touch for a couples night out."

  • "I discovered this place on yelp after searching for wine spots in midtown. The reviews were good so we decided to give it a shot for our girls night. We were not disappointed! The menu is fantastic - great choices for both food and wine. May be a bit pricey- but in the end worth it. I would recommend it for a special occasion.. date night or girls night- which they have promos for certain nights of the week! Staff was very nice, great ambiance - can't wait to go back!"

  • "Very attentive staff and The service was fast. Enjoyed the chocolate fondue dessert. The prices for desserts was reasonable. The drinks were fantastic!! definitely returning in the future. My only complaint was that the space was a little small indoors, but it was romantic and had good ambiance. Definitely make a RSVP if you're going to show up after 7pm. It does get busy."

  • "Ayza helped me provide the perfect evening for a young lady I was on a first date with. I had to call and change my reservation due to New York City Traffic and they were very accommodating. I had also put in a request to have my table decorated like they do for couples night. They were accommodating in that regard as well. The decorations included a candlelit table that was covered in rose petals. After a short wait we were seated and my date was immediately impressed since no one around us had the same ambiance that we were privy to. The service was stellar, the food was amazing, and the chocolate completed a wonderful dining experience. This restaurant and staff went above and beyond for me. They are tops in the dining experience."

  • "The restaurant was packed and there were a LOT of walk-ins. I would recommend a reservation. Other than that, the food and dessert was AMAZING!!!! I've referred a couple of friends and they love it as well!"

  • "Great mix of small plate choices for vegetarian and carnivore alike. While space was tight the staff were attentive and efficient. Both my wife and I agreed we enjoyed our meal and would happily go there again!"

  • "they don't take substitutes so if you have an allergy you will just have to do without. the wine was tasty and the chocolate pizza was delicious! great for girl's night drinks before a nicer dinner"

  • "This place was good, except the hostess. As soon as my group arrived, the hostess barely acknowledged that we were waiting. There was no line, and we were greeted with a less than fake attitude. First, she asked for our coats, and I kindly responded, "don't worry about it, we will take care of it" (bc the coat rack was severely stuffed) she responded very rudely w/ "theres no room, you have to put it on here". Our group felt forced to hand over our coats. She acted like there were only 2 people in our group with coats, meanwhile there were 4 standing there. This is not the first time this has happened, 1 of the girls in our group had the same problem be4 with the same hostess. we will think twice about coming to this location again."

  • "Great drink list, and the food was all great and very well portioned. A pretty good date place."

  • "I thoroughly enjoyed the food and drinks, but have to say the space was awkward. I had dates on both sides of my groups table and could hear every personal comment said by each of them. My friends and I even had to interrupt to get in and out of the booth and the waitress had to do the same. The cheese, wine and chocolate were memorable, but when I go out to eat I want to be comfortable."

  • "I'll never come here again. I went for the prefix dinner for Valentines Day which is around 69$ per person. I decided to go with the steak dinner and the manager told me I could only get the steak cooked "medium" and that's how the chef was preparing the dish that night. Mind you, it's easier to cook a steak medium rare like how I wanted it. The portions of each dish were an absolute joke. And the restaurant was so hott I could hardly sit there. I cannot believe they were charging that much for such a disappointment. And the waiting staff that night were as rude as they come including the supervising manager. This the 31st location too. Please save your money there is so much better restaurants in NYC than this place!!!! Never ever again."

  • "Went to this restaurant for jazz Mondays. They have a great cocktail list complete with tons of chocolate themed alcohol I'm a big fan of this cozy restaurant but it can be slightly overpriced. The chauterie plate was great."

  • "This was our first time at AYZA and we found it to be very enjoyable with a very friendly and knowledgeable wait staff. Although it was busy we were seated promptly and service was outstanding. The menu had nice selection of food. We had the hummus which was good. We also had the vegetarian paninini and white truffle pizza. There were perfect for sharing, not too large and tasty. The wine list was surprisingly limited for drinks by the glass. The vermentino was nice but the sauvignon blanc selection was too sweet."

  • "My fiance and I went for a late evening treat. Drinks: Malbec and Brut Rose: 7.5/10 Food: 5 choice option of cheese/meats: 7.5/10, baby shrimp with mango appetizer: 5/10 Dessert: strawberry & peppermint chocolate martinis: 10/10 truffle came w/ ea drink: 7/10 Reservations through open table were great. seating is very tight, normal for the city. Service was attentive, busy, no hovering. Prices seem very reasonable but total bill was surprisingly $100+tip. Overall experience felt worth the price tag. downside is the restroom. there is one for the entire restaurant...one. 10 minute wait for each of us. overall I would give Ayza and 8/10."

  • "I read the menu on line and had to dine here. I'm glad to say I was in no way disappointed. It took a few minutes to get the waitress to come over but once she did she took very good care of us. The good was very good and there were plenty of options - both healthy and diet splurges! The mushroom tart is a must! The wines by the glass were of good caliber and the chocolate raspberry martini was absolutely sinful! There is no doubt I will be back again!"

  • "My friend and I came for an after dinner after theater drink and it was awesome. We had chocolate martinis! Dessert in a glass. Good to the last sip!! We also shared artichoke dip with warm pita chips, also very good! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, We arrived an hour and a half early and they still we able to seat us. We sat outside in a heated tent for our food. Very nice staff!!!"

  • "Not a wine guy, far from it, but our Waitress was incredible. Actually gave great suggestions, answered my questions, everything was amazing. If you want dead silence, then you're an idiot, but the noise level was low with slight chatter being audible. Made a first Valentine's dinner perfect. The 20 layer Crepe cake brulee... Just order it."

  • "Great experience. Tables were a little bit packed together but I attribute that to it being a Saturday night, the day after Valentine's Day. Very smart idea to use the indoor and outdoor patio space, however the tent did have some leaks at some of the seams. The indoor seating was extremely warm, so we chose to sit outside. Overall, great experience for my girlfriend and great food and wine list!"

  • "I went with my boyfriend for the Couples' night out offer for Valentines day. I thought that he pre fixe dinner was too expensive so we just ordered from the normal menu and I'm so glad we did! Definitely get the white truffle pizza, a cheese platter and the chocolate wine shot!! I would highly recommend their general valentines day offer because with the reservation alone we got chocolate and a spiced wine drink as well as a beautifully decorated table. Will be letting my friends know:) ONLY thing that didn't really affect me but may affect others is that it is super cramped but they did offer a free coat check."

  • "Normally I do not like to go out on V-Day. The service and food in Manhattan restaurants on Valentine's Day are usually poor due to the capacity of the evening but Ayza did a fabulous job. Servers were prompt and friendly and the food was fabulous. Prix Fixe menus usually annoy me but this one had just enough variety to coax me out and the execution made up for any traditionalism in the menu. Although we sat outside in 10 degree weather, the tented outdoor area was plenty warm (I was skeptical about this seating arrangement but it was very pleasant). The lighting was dim and the music was romantic. Well played, Ayza!"

  • "We've been going to Ayza for years now. This was our first time going for Valentine's Day and they were only serving their prix-fixe menu. The food was excellent as always, but, due to the holiday the service wasn't as good as it usually is. Overall we had a good experience this time and will go there again for a holiday."

  • "Went here on Vday with my girlfriend and it was a very intimate setting. Rose petals on the table, candle lit dinner, very romantic atmosphere. The table placement is tight though so pretty much listening to the person's conversation next to you which wasnt that good. Service was good and quick (small restaurant so easy to get their attention). 3 course meal was really good, especially the chocolate wine with the dessert! Ordered the filet mignon and I wanted some extra steak sauce but the server said "Sorry, I don't have access to the kitchen"...what?? what does that even mean?...the kitchen is literally behind the bar and open for everyone to see...was not impressed by that."

  • "Ayza is a great little place that is well worth negotiating the small space. Delicious assortments of chocolates from some of the masters (thank you Cluizel), great affordable wines, and some really fun small plates. I've never had the larger plates so I can't speak to them, but I come back here for post-work indulgence every so often, no matter where I work."

  • "This was my first time dining at Ayza's and I really enjoyed myself. It was much smaller than I expected but hey, that's New York City for you. The food was good but the Wine was better. By no means am I a wine expert but I managed to order the perfect red wine for the night. Also, I must point out that the chocolate truffles are unassuming but tasty. I would definitely dine at Ayza's again."

  • "This restaurant is tiny! We had a 7 pm reservation and were seated at 7:45. Fortunately we had a seat at the teeny bar while we waited, but still, why take reservations if you can't be better than 45 minutes off? Once seated the food came quickly and we all loved it! Every single thing we ordered was better than the dish before it. The waitress was very nice and very attentive."

  • "I generally like this restaurant, but seating people outside even under plastic and with blankets on a COLD evening is not a good idea. We were assured the heaters had "just been turned on" and that it would get "very warm" soon.... but it did not. We froze. We were told there was nothing that could be done and did we want another blanket? We finished quickly and left.... it's a shame because, like I said, we really liked the restaurant. We'll wait for Spring to go back."
