All was well, with one departure. the food my children chose was perfect for their tastes. However, the lamb chops were covered with a ton of pepper, not to my liking! Maybe the server could mention that fact? This was my third visit to Aya Sofia we have never been disappointed

Our server was delightful. The Salad was yummy and fresh. The lamb dish was super tasty but a bit fatty and very salty. I woke up in the middle of the night and had to drink a glass of water...

Chose to try Aya Sophia because a friend vacationed in Turkey earlier this year and raved about the food. Well you don't have to travel to Turkey to taste authentic Turkish food. It's right here in St. Louis. We enjoyed our lunch with a glass of great house wine, stuffed grape leaves, beef and lamb meat selections, and a meatless eggplant dish - each was superb. The accompanying rice and steamed vegetables on the entrees were done to perfection. Having a personable waiter from Turkey just added to the ambiance and made it a wonderful experience. This is a TRY IT YOU'LL LIKE IT restaurant, even if you are a fussy eater.

The red flower lanterns are so catchy in the tiny façade as it came to view. But don't let this restaurant in the nook fool you because they have BIG flavors to offer. We ordered the slow cooked lamb and the swordfish special with Lentil soup. It's been a while that we've tasted such really good food and we eat out a lot. Aya Sofia is highly recommended for the sophisticated palate.

We enjoyed the curtained booths and the warm colors. The appetizers were very good. The entrées were tasty but a bit over seasoned ... and the chicken and beef on my kebabs were a bit overdone. The vegetables were perfectly cooked and seasoned and the rice was good as well. We ordered dessert to go and had the BEST Baklava ever with just the right balance of sweet and salty. The waiter was very friendly and service oriented. I'd like to try this spot for lunch and see how their gyro compares to other places in town.

We have dined here several times, and each time it is very good. It is a reasonable value for the food, and portions are properly sized. The dishes are properly spiced, but they are happy to make something spicier if you wish. The food is middle eastern/turkish. My only complaint at this visit was a large table (sitting under the ceiling fans) asked that the air conditioning be turned off and windows opened, and it became very warm. The second time we requested that the air be turned on, the complied, and it was comfortable very quickly. Staff is tuned to the "I am in a hurry" diners, as well as the "We haven't seen them for awhile and would like to be left alone" diners. We will be back!

Always love having brunch here with the family and this past Sunday was no exception. Great food, great service, and attentiveness to my children with food allergies. This visit we chose to sit on the patio because of the great weather. I'm just not a fan of having a dog on the patio near me while I'm eating. The dog was shaking and his hair was flying all over the place. Gross. Keep the dog at home while you eat.

The food was very good and different from what I have had before. I am not a lamb fan but, I really liked the grilled Turkish meatballs (beef and lamb combo)with the yogurt sauce. I also got to taste a grilled chicken special with a lemon white sauce, alsovery good. The dining outside was pleasant, but noisy because there was major street work being done that night.

This is by far the best Turkish restaurant that I have had the pleasure of dining at. Do not be afraid of anything on the menu. First off, it's all good! Secondly, if you have a question, ask it! The servers are all very knowledgeable and will get specifics for you either from their deep knowledge of the foods or direct from the head chef. The entrees are spectacular and bring me to a comforting place that I always find myself needing to fill (about once a month, sometimes more; though my waistline would debate me).

The thong anout Aya Sofia is that you know going on that thr food is going to be really good, no matter what you order. Of course, for me, that means the lamb shank whenever it's on the menu. It's one of my very favorite dishes in St. Louis.

We were in town on vacation and thought it might be hard finding a restraurant that was open. Thanks to the open table ap we didn't have a problem. Aya Sofia was amazing. The food was fresh and very flavorful. The menu had many diverse offerings. We had previously enjoyed too many St. Louis ribs earlier in the day and were looking for a vegetarian option for dinner. Aya Sofia was perfect. Our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. If Aya Sofia was in our home area, we would be regulars! Thanks again.

Our dinner club met at Aya Sofia last week and we all loved it! Although a few of us were not first timers, those of us who are new to the restaurant loved it. We sat on the patio, which gave us lots of room for talking and eating and enjoying a cool summer breeze. Everyone loved their food, drinks and desserts. I think our favorite dishes were the Babaganuş, Börek and İmam Bayıldı. We all really loved the chocolate and pistachio custard dessert. We'll definitely be back again!!!!! Thank you.

  • Best Middle Eastern Food in STL

    Dined on 6/21/2014
We've tried every Middle Eastern restaurant in St Louis (Greek, Lebanese, Syrian) and this is by far the best. No need to look elsewhere. The service was warm and helpful, the menu small, but checked every box. In addition there were several specials. The appetizers were delicious and the entrees savory and plentiful. I was impressed to see Lebanese wines on the list. The atmosphere was lively, but romantic with perfect lighting. We will definitely go back!

We were pleasantly surprised by much of our first experience at Aya Sofia. It's the kind sophisticated, family owned, ethnic, neighborhood restaurant that St. Louis needs more of. The whole, grilled Churpa fish was unusual & delicious. Unfortunately, upon completing our meal, we had to ask the server several times to clear the plates from the table. The lingering plates dissuaded us from considering dessert and coffee. The two outdoor patios would be very pleasant in good weather.

Amazing food! Had the lamb, fish special and Gyro type of sandwich. My favorites were the fish and lamb. Started with calamari, pita with a yogurt and dill sauce and some kind of soup that had a sausage in it. Can't decide which one of those I liked best. I would definitely go again to try something different. Everything was fabulous but I wouldn't want to miss out on something that may be better!
