AVOMother's day brunchWe had a wonderful experience at Avo for their Mother's day brunch. The food was good and they offered a great selection. We all remarked that we would be back for dinner often. Thanks for a special day.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOne bad experienceWe have been to AVO before and the experience was much better. It was Mother's Day, so they may have something to do with it. Our food took over an hour to get to the table. We had two 4 year olds with us and they were running out of steam at that point. I ordered an omelet and it was overdone for my taste. The grits are awesome. Highly suggest you get those if you go to brunch. Bloody Mary was great too, not too spicy. The manager came to our table twice so he was very aware of our situation. It is great for kids, and they have lovely outdoor seating. I would recommend and we will go back. Like I said, I just think they may have been overwhelmed because service and food has been much better.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding foodThis was the second time I've taken a group to AVO and have been pleased with the food each time. My only complaints concerned the ambience (the tables pushed againt the front wall are a bit plain) and the noise level (there's not much acoustic treatment and when busy, it can get quite loud). But you go to a restaurant for the food - and AVO will not disappoint. The staff are friendly, but not overbearing. The Sunday ha;f-price bottles of wine special gives you a chance to try wines that are a bit more pricey than you would normally order. The Salted Caramel Creme was amazing, but really all of the food was fantastic (bacon macaroni and cheese, tenderloin foie gras sliders, deviled eggs, pimento cheese burger). So much sounded good that we completely over-ordered at both visits just to be able to sample as much as possible. It was a collection of southern and traditional breakfast and lunch foods. I had a burger with a side of grits. It was one of the best burgers I've had in a long time, and the grits were delicious! I paired it with a pot of french press coffee and it was perfect. In fact, we were having so much fun that we opted to move to the lounge area after dinner to continue our conversation and drinks instead of heading out to the bars.
Our waiter, Brett, provided the best, most fun service we could have ever asked for and was able to make phenomenal dinner and drink suggestions. Your entire staff went above and beyond to accommodate our party with our pre-dinner lingerie party, dinner and post-dinner plans. Everyone I spoke with along the way was nothing but courteous and extremely helpful.
We will definitely be back to Avo and will suggest this restaurant to any of our friends looking for a unique dining experience!
