  • "Not where you would expect to find a restaurant, let alone a public house / brewpub. The food was definitely better than what one would normally expect from a "bar". The menu was actually pretty creative, and more importantly, tasty. The beer selection, of course, was great as well. Service was prompt, polite, and professional. I will be going back for more next time I'm in town."

  • "Excellent and interesting selection of rotating beers brewed in-house (including a goze [sour] and a nice rye beer), plus some local microbrews on tap as well. The food is very good too - try the duck fat popcorn starter! While the desserts don't quite live up to the rest of the menu, Hatch Family Chocolates is right next door (with beer ice cream among other delights). My only complaint with the ambience is that the chairs are somewhat hard and uncomfortable (the benches and booths are fine though)."

  • "Avenues Proper hit the mark on every level. The restaurant itself had great decor and right when you walk in the door, you see why they have such a great beer selection. The micro brew equipment is encased with windows and there are 2 different sides of the restaurant. We wanted to try several dishes and split several small plates and appetizers. The pork belly and brussels sprouts and chicken and waffles were our favorite, with the cod fish sticks close behind. Our server was very attentive and also provided some great recommendations for food and drinks. We will definitely be going back!"

  • "Let me start by saying that I love food, I love eating out and most importantly I love have a memorable dining experience one that makes me want to immediately return. My issues with Avenues Proper is the same issues I have with 50% of the restaurants I dine at. This is a restaurant opens up with much excitement and wows you with the food, service and atmosphere etc. Then as you go back to dine there is this slow degradation of the food, service and atmosphere as if they are starting to just give up and settle for mediocrity. the food is very uninspired and usually comes out on the cold side. The service leaves way too much to be desired lacking in sophistication more like a diner vibe and most certainly does not match the price point!!!"

  • "After thoroughly enjoying our initial visit to this eatery several months ago, subsequent visits have been progressively less enjoyable. The menu tends toward the excessively heavy and trendy. with few lighter options or fare appropriate for vegetarians. The ambiance remains the biggest draw, although tables near the front suffer from cold breezes whenever the door is opened. We will hold off for a while and return when the weather is better to see if the menu has improved."

  • "Environment, beer, and food very similar to the Annex of Epic Brewery. There is a dining area and a bar area. Both have beautiful comfortable seating situations. The food is simple but exploding with flavors, while utilizing local fare. Extensive beer and liquor selection, with a big screen TV for sports events. The atmosphere was quiet, relaxed, and friendly."

  • "We were seated right away and had made reservations prior, service was very good they were a bit busy so they were doing their best. One note I would like to make that would make me go back and recommend this to anyone, the manager was out on the floor and in the kitchen picking up and helping everyone during this busy time and making sure that people were taken care of and had what they needed in a very friendly and timely manner. That you do not see much any more. He was a very good help to his staff and to the customers. Food was very good and served warm and had not sat for a minute in the kitchen. Please give this a try... it is well worth the time and money."

  • "The hostess sat us next to two very loud, gossiping girls when there were many tables available. We made reservations for our anniversary so not being seeing by ourselves was disappointing. The food was good, suck fat popcorn was good but wouldn't order again . The burger didn't compare to other top spots like Copper onion. The tomatoe paste based sauce did not belong on the burger. The frites were good but the chicken and waffles was the best! Would order that agin. The waiter was good except he brought us two of the same beers and we thought they tasted the same and when we got the check it said 2x that beer."

  • "We love farm to table, local dining, good beers and wine and a place to be able to bring our 12 yr old also. The food was ok we ordered olives, cheese and crackers and pumpkin to start. The pumpkin was plain even though it had a spoon full of tomato sauce on it, olives nothing special, surprising my daughters cheese and crackers were the best. I do not eat beef or pork so I guess it was my problem that there was not a lot to choose from! My husband had steak which came with a plate full of fries not a fresh vegetable to be seen, my daughter had chicken and waffles which she liked and I had a salad and fish sticks. I could have bought a bag of arugula and a box of fish sticks for a lot cheaper. Beer was good."

  • "We were seated in the bar area, where the tables aren't really suitable for two people dining comfortably, but we made do - which was easy given the great service, delicious and eclectic food, and excellent in-house beers. Would definitely recommend, and go again myself, but might specifically ask to be seated in dining area, when making reservations."

  • "I had dinner at Avenues Proper with a friend - we mostly came to try the beer but also ate dinner. I did not have high expectations for the food because of very mixed reviews, especially about small serving sizes. For food I had the burger, which was really quite good. The tomato relish was delicious, the burger well cooked and the bread for the bun was fresh. Serving size was definitely not a problem for the burger. It was good, not spectacular. For beer, I tried two beers brewed at Avenues Proper: the red oatmeal ale which was very good and the Proper beer ( a golden ale) which was not special. Overall, a good experience and a nice place to have a beer and some upscale pub food."

  • "Given my love for excellent brunch spots, I was very pleased with the Avenues Proper. The Italian eggs were excellent and their brioche french toast was astounding. Although I had a few bloody Mary's, it's important to note that their local only beer selection is impressive and I will be back to grab a pint soon. All in all very impressed"

  • "We were greeted promptly and shown to our table which was ready for us. Our drinks came promptly and we enjoyed them while hearing about the specials. .We enjoyed our dinners thoroughly! We were going to the theater following dinner, but stayed to enjoy two of their desserts, the goat cheese tart with beet ice cream and a chocolate parfait. Both were like nothing we'd had before and scrumptious. A great evening. One that we'll be sure to repeat."

  • "Everything we ate was very tasty. It's hard to make pomme frites memorable, but those were some mighty fine spuds. I had the burger, my companion had the pumpin. We shared the daily pickles and olives as appys, and tried different cocktails. All amazing. It is always nice to find a restaurant that is willing to offer a unique selection of cocktails, like the Pool Water. I'm happy to pay $10 for such a treat in adult form. Service was great and the staff very friendly. I didn't tick outdoor dining as it's past the season for that at the moment, but I'm eager to try the patio come spring."

  • "The restaurant was out of all three items that I would've liked to order plus two beers. The dishes we did order were ok. Our server was initially very much distracted by his friends/ former coworkers, which resulted in a long wait for our drinks to arrive. We found out about specials from our neighbor diners but later through the evening our server did make an effort and he seemed to be overall a knowledgeable, and friendly guy. Maybe he too was burned out from the busy weekend. I will have to pay another visit to give a fair review."
