Discovering the experience of dining in a place such as Cannes or Nice was never easier than now with the opening of the French Bistro and Raw Bar, Avenue. The only difference between dining at Avenue and dining along the Côte d'Azur, is that your gaze lands on waves on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. Avenue is located along our side of the pond, on our own eastern shores in Long Branch, New Jersey.   • "The best thing about Jersey Shore Restaurant Week is that you get to try restaurants you'd never visited before. And this was an excellent choice! The staff is courteous, our server was incredible, went above and beyond. The food was absolutely delicious. Octopus salad was perfectly chilled and acidic and the beet salad was a wonderful combination of ingredients! Two fish dishes, dorado and trout were perfectly cooked with generous portions of veggies. Trout Almondine may have had a tad too much butter, but that's probably just my taste. Wine list is quite expensive but excellent. A stop at the bar was fun. They have a wonderful happy hour menu and reasonably priced drinks. Highly recommend the Ginger Apple Martini, Will definitely return."

The service is always (we go regularly) smooth and friendly, if sometimes it feels rushed. Their prix-fixe is a good deal, but the whole total isn't cheap. The ocean views in all seasons are relaxing."

  • "My husband and I had a wonderful date night at Avenue! The atmosphere, there is always a little exciting! Our waiter was pleasant and not overbearing at all. And we were given a table with a lovely view, as we had requested. We shared the paella for two, which was spectacular. Diners at other tables were commenting on how impressive it looked. It tasted just as good as it!! The onion tart appetizer was delightful. We shared house made ice cream and fresh berries for dessert! We thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered and we thought all of the portion sizes were perfect. Try the Espresso Martini! Avenue's menu is somewhat limitted and a bit pricey, but the view is amazing and it feels like a true night out whenever we go there."

  • "I am a local and eat at the avenue a few times a year. Went there recently and the food was marginal and the service was terrible. On top of it, When I asked for some extra olives for my martini I was given a problem. They ended up charging me $2 for the olives when my bill was $300. Not good business."

  • "Enjoyed lunch with friends on a quiet Monday.I chose a lobster roll sandwich with a delicious side salad. My friends both had Nicoise salads and thought that they were tasty. The pear cocktails were original and pleasant tasting. I must comment on the service,however. Our waiter had no personality at all. He did not even manage a smile or any pleasantries. He was hardly overextended, as there were only 3 or so small tables at the time we dined. When we received our souffle for dessert, we had to request utensils and plates in order to enjoy it. . Avenue has a stunning view of the ocean and the restaurant is beautiful. More attention needs to be spent on improving skills of this server."

  • "Very unaccommodating waiter. I asked for a little cranberry juice to add to my Cosmo - a bit too strong - and he brings a $3 soda glass full. "that's all the bar will do". My husband ordered off the Friday night prix fix menu and he kept pushing that he must pick out dessert with the appetizer and entree. Friday, only the bar was busy and the dining room less than half full. Order all 3 courses at once - is this the early bird in Miami. He had such a sour face. The little blonde who bused the table and brought bread should be the waiter. We are locals and try to patronize Pier Village weeknights - without the crowds."

  • "Chosen for beautiful view of the ocean. Ordered 3-course prix fixe meals ($30) - Didn't order drinks - All 3 courses must be ordered at once. Appetizers - great - (2) shrimp cocktail - generous & tasty, (1) beet salad -generous & delicious. Main courses - husband's steak /fries - fine - (2) ordered Dorade -(Mediterranean sea bass) described with brussel sprouts, butternut squash & spaghetti squash...REALLY? - 2 brussel sprout leaves, tbs or 2- pureed butternut and a small pile spaghetti squash, along with small piece of fish. Fortunately we weren't too hungry. Desserts - OK - 2 mediocre apple tarts & one fine home made ice cream. Service: Overattentive & cool, except for friendly young woman. Overpriced - wouldn't go back"

We arrived before 6:00 and selected from the prix fixe menu which was very reasonable. the portions were not gigantic but I was very full after the meal and I can eat a lot."

  • "I'm from NYC...but the ambience, food and service at Avenue keeps me coming back. While the summer is busy and a cool place to be seen, the winter still had its share of hustle and bustle and the snow lent a hand to amplify the element of romance about the place. The happy hour is always a hit...7 days a week! Different choices for brunch, lunch, dinner and bar menus provide a nice variety. Love the cocktails. I always get the oysters and the moules frites. Creme brulee for dessert is a hit. The views on the water, the fireplace at dinner....never fails to please. Love it here!"

  • "Poor service consisting of rude and inconsiderate help. Food delivered was so fatty I gagged on it and when I asked to send back and replace with some other entree, the rudest response ever was "sure, but you still have to pay for what you originally ordered plus whatever you replace it with". The service and response to the lousy meal was so awful, it ruined everyone's evening. This is the second time, back-to-back that we've had an absolutely awful experience at this place. That's a shame, because it was once one of our favorites. We'll never return to this establishment. Avoid."

  • "I had expected that the restaurant would have a decent crowd due to a popular beach town area but upon arriving I saw we were the next to last table to arrive. We were basically sitting very uncompfortably in a large empty restaurant. The food was good but nothing to return for. There were no specials. For appetizers, I ordered the grilled octopus, it was ruined by the pesto smeared on it and undercooked lentils. My partner had the onion gratin( French onion soup), it was very greasy. For dinner, I ordered mussels and fried and loved it, my parter ordered a steak which was good but the herbed butter gave it an overwhelming taste. We split a dessert of profiteroles, the chocolate was not warm and the ice cream was hard as a golf ball."

  • "The Sunday night Lobster supper special was delicious. Te salad was very good. The pumpkin cheesecake was devine. Would highly recommend it. Was not crazy about the Peach Passion martini though. Too sour, tasted more like soda water. Organic syrah wine was good though. But the food was outstanding. I give it 5 stars for the food."

  • "The snow and the cold air kept everyone else away. Only three couples were in the place, so sitting looking the fireplace and the waves was possible. Had the Dover Sole, the fish was great, but the root vegs and sauce were a bit heavy for the fish in my opinion. My husband had the chicken and was very happy with it. We have been here many times in much better weather, but this was very nice and quiet!"

  • "Lamb sandwich was fantastic. Portions were generous. It was nice to have the restaurant to ourselves for a leisurely (albeit rainy) Friday lunch. Prices are a bit high, but I suspect it is to control the types of characters that might walk through the door. This place is clearly "the" exclusive place to be on the pier. Ps. The Jalapeno-Mango Margarita is the best recipe I've had. Hands down."

  • "The food was mediocre at best. Best part of the meal was the chocolate custard with fresh whipped cream. Escargot was not top notch, and flat iron steak highly resembled hamburger meat. If you wish for a high class meal in the jersey shore area, your best bet is the Shipwreck Grille in Brielle. I was surprised at how mediocre the Avenue was; highly disappointed. Wish I would have spent my restaurant week meal at another restaurant."

  • "Ambience was wonderful. Hostesses were wonderful. Servers were just good. I had heard excellent things about this restaurant and was disappointed and underwhelmed. Also it's on the pricey side. I didn't think the atmosphere, food and service warrant the higher prices. We would possibly go back to sit at the bar for drinks and apps, but not rushing back to have a meal. As a "local" there are better restaurants with better service in the area that will be getting our $$$$."

  • "Usually we love it here.This Saturday was a disappointment.Our waitress never smiled, had an attitude and did not come to our table to ask if we needed anything. No excuse for that since the restaurant was empty. We had to constantly get other waiters to go get her. The artichoke soup was tasteless. Apparently they changed the menu so the octopus salad was more beans than octopus. We ordered the steak and that was also tasteless. Both my husband and I left more than half each of the steak so we asked the bus girl to please wrap it up to take home. They threw out our left overs! Fortunately the manager came and apologized and made us a new steak to take home and at least I left somewhat happy.After this experience we won't be for a while."

  • "Decided to try The Avenue for a ladies birthday lunch/brunch. We had a wonderful experience. The food and cocktails were delicious and service was top notch. The staff was very attentive, but not pushy and did not rush us at all. The ambiance is top notch as well. It is a beautiful place with amazing ocean views. Would save this pace for a social occasion though, a little pricey for an everyday lunch, but well worth it for something special."
