Diner Reviews
  • "Opened just recently but a huge success with local community. The food is unmistakenly Italian. Go and try for yourself - has the whole package."

  • "We truly loved our meal, everything was delicious! I had the branzino, it was the best I have ever had, and the portion was very generous. My husband had the lamb chops, and he said they were perfect! We had great service and a wonderful evening."

  • "The service was horrible. Although we had reservations, they first tried to put us at a table right inside the front door where there were people waiting and plenty of traffic. Next they put us at a small table that was literally 6 inches from the back of the heads of the people sitting at an adjacent table. We requested to move and ended up at a table that was jammed between other tables. We got the feeling that they were trying to cram as many diners into the restaurant as possible. After about 15 minutes, the waiter finally came over and we ordered a drink. After about 45 minutes, the waiter finally returned to our table. We asked for our check and left. One drink and no meal. Very unsatisfactory experience."

  • "My friend and I had lunch here for the first time. I hhad heard about this place for a long time but unfortunately never had the chance to go to Avenue italy. The food was amazing. The service was perfect and professional. I will definitely come back and I will tell everyone I know to give this place a try. Thank you chef, thank you avenue Italy"

  • "We were in the area and had dinner here. We don't live in this area. I had read mixed reviews on this place. The service was pretty good but the food was just OK. We did have dinner at 9pm and so the restaurant was fairly empty at that hour. I am not sure I would return if I lived in the area. For the price, the food should have been better."

  • "Our waiter Freddie was poor on many levels as our beer and wine sat idle for a long time while salad and appetizers came and went before finally asking about the delay. They were sitting on the bar waiting to be picked up all that time. Entree's were brought out one at a time taking so long that my Veal Dish which came out first was cold by the time the last dish of Pasta was delivered. We were asked for our desert order before the table was even cleared from our entrees. Specifically, the boards used to keep the pizzas on were left while Desert was served. Lastly, my plan to leave a 10% tip was thwarted as I received the mandatory 18% gratuity added on to my check for our group of 7. Yes, this may be customary but it's not posted anywhere."

  • "We took my daughter here for her graduation because she wanted caesar salad. Making a reservation for us and our 4 kids was a snap. The decor is wonderful. The service not so. They gave us a small basket of bread - for 4 hungry kids and we had to ask for a refill. The waiter was not very friendly, and acted like we were a bother because we could not quickly figure out our order (there is no kids menu and we have young children). The food was OK, though overpriced for what it is. Like the bread, there no offer to refill my duaghter's soda which was more than half ice. To top it off, our small group of 6 was charged an automatic gratuity. I understand why the waiter did not work hard to serve us. He knew his tip was in the bag. "

  • "There are not that many good restaurants arount the RPV area, so we were pleased when Avenue Italy opened. Th efood is good and reasonably priced. If they would give Open Table points for dining I may have rated them a "4" across the board...hint hint to management. :)"

  • "When we first came here, we were overjoyed to find an Italian place that offered tasty gluten free pasta and pizza. Tasty being the key word. Being gluten-intolerant, I have given up a lot of food that I love, especially most Italian food. The flavor of the food was delicious and the wine list is decent. Service is slow so if you are looking for a leisurely dining experience, it's fine. Only issue I have is that they don't offer gluten-free pizza and pasta all the time so it's hard to make a reservation and count on eating there, which is a bummer since we really enjoy their food. "

  • "Busy Mother's Day crowd. There is noise, but more about being a part of something than intrusive. I had the lamb chops. Nicely done. I enjoy exploring their Italian wines. Our wait staff, John had been there for 14 hours and was still providing excellent service. The bar has a lot of energy and would be a good spot to have dinner or appetizers. "

  • "That's how many chances they've had with us to rectify this lame excuse for an Italian restaurant! Only thing about it that can be recommendd is to NOT bother."

  • "We were there on a very windy night and were seated in the "tent" which was very windy but it was quieter than the rest of the restaurant which was very noisy"

  • "Tremendous risotto with asparagus and fresh tomato. Excellent service from professionally trained waiters. This restaurant has an excellent wine list but also offers fine wines by the glass. You can even request items off the menu. The chefs are very creative. Best of all you will feel the quality and the value for your money You don't be insulted by outrageous prices. I have done here over 25 times is the past year and it is consistently at a high standard. "

  • "We had to find a place for an extended family Easter lunch after a family member became ill and the original plans to have lunch at their house fell through. My sister-in-law found this place on Open Table and since the reviews and location were good, we took a risk. Everyone was happy with their lunch! It's not always easy to please a large group, but everyone found something on the menu they were happy with and it was all so very delicious. The waiter was wonderful! He was able to make some suggestions and asked the chef to accommodate a few of us with dietary restrictions. They can do paleo, dairy free, nut free. Nice large window so you can watch the staff cook. We will definitely head back to this restaurant again! "

  • "We had a great meal and enjoyed the special service provided by our waiter and bus people. I always try the Spagetti and Meatballs the first time I visit an Italian Restaurant with the assumption that if they do that well probably everything else on the menu will be good as well. I was not disappointed- The S & MB's were excellent and the salad shared with my wife was very tasty and enough for the two of us. We will be back-frequently. "

  • "We've been going here since they opened and have not had a bad meal. Service is friendly, prompt, and courteous. Specials are always interesting and worth considering. We usually bring our favorite bottle of wine, but the wine list is interesting and will probably have something you like. "

  • "Looking for something other than the standard Italian fare, we decided to try Ave Italy and were justly rewarded! Our food was absolutely outstanding, we had excellent and attentive service, the room is beautifully decorated and cozy with a lovely ambience, and it was just an overall very relaxing experience with delicious food. Our table had the sea bass specials they were offering that night, two different salads and a marguerita pizza. All excellent, and a nice wine as well. Would highly recommend this restaurant and looking forward to our next visit. Tiramisu for dessert was YUM! A surprise to find a restaurant of this caliber on the hill, which oddly doesn't have a lot of outstanding restaurants. This place is a winner!"

  • "My boyfriend and I are always looking for new/great restaurants to try. Reservations helped get a good table almost as soon as we walked in the door. Fried calamari was good, but not as crispy as I like it, however; I am very particular about what I eat and how it is prepared. Our server was attentive but did not rush us through each course. The beet salad was outstanding. The veal dish was okay- not quite enough meat for my boyfriend and it was prepared so - so. The only thing really missing for us was a Martini before dinner but the wine suggested by our server was outstanding. We will definitely return and I would like to have a girls night out soon!"

  • "This place was discovered by my partner and myself one morning as we were frequent visitors of Yellow Vase bistro in front of Avenue Italy Cucina Italiana. It was a good thing that they allow pets in the patio section or we would have never tried it. We always travel with our small dogs. This place was amazing. The food is out of this world. The Seafood soup is fantastic. The server Abel was great. He made sure we had bread, coffee and even water for the puppies. I will definately make this one of my regular spots when in the area. We will also bring friends from out of town. Can't get much better views that what you have here."

  • "Serving sizes enormous - plan on one portion feeding two (unless you're feeling gluttonous). Priced like Chez Melange, but food quality and portion sizes more like Bucca di Beppo. No attempt to dampen sounds."

  • "This was a great place to hold our little dinner party - energetic atmosphere, great food, just like from home town in Italy - would recommend to everyone - great to have a nice local restaurant in the area."

  • "Italy Cucina Italiana is clearly a gem! Our first time. Service was truly outstanding. Food - as I remembered in Italy. Reservations are a must, even when moderately full, or you will wait."

  • "Avenue Italy is relatively new and the chef and staff are eager to please. Had the clam linguine and it was perfect as it was light and clean in taste. The clams were fresh and the amount of clam juice was proportionate to the amount of pasta. Fresh herbs in all the dishes were a plus. The branzino fish seems to be on the daily special list often and is light and delicious with lemons and capers. They are a bit heavy handed with their olive oil in finishing a dish presentation. Ask them to make a mushroom risotto and your heart will cry out for more. The portions were a bit large for me but I'm certain the neighborhood dictates that perimeter in irder to ensure regular repeat business. Bravo Chef and I shall return."

  • "The waiter kept forgetting to follow up. No oil & vinegar with the salad, no butter when requested, no parmesan cheese on our pasta. He spent more time trying to look busy than actually working his section. It's all about the service and this was weak."

  • "This neighbor restaurant has excellent food and wonderful service. It's a little touch of Italy in Palos Verdes. This was my 4th visit - each meal has been delicious. I highly recommend it."

  • "While we liked the ambience, the rest of our dining experience was so-so at best. Ordered a beer, which was on the list and they were out of it. Ordered another from the list and the waiter came back and said they were also out of that one. "The bartender forgot to order it." Drank water instead. While my pasta was very good, (capellini) as was my ceasar salad, my friends' pasta, penne arrabiata, was unpalatable. Over spiced and way too salty. He didn't bother saying anything to the waiter at this point. This location is so nice and I would love to have a local place to go but unfortunately, I'm still waiting for them to get it together."

  • "This was our first time dining @ Ave Italy and was excited that Osso Bucco was the Friday special. One would expect that the special of the day would be great but very disappointing.... meat was tough and hard to chew. They were nice to replace it. It tasted better but not as good as I expected. Other than the Osso Bucco our overall experience was very good and we would come back again."

  • "Our large monthly dining group really appreciatted receiving separate checks for each couple and individual, which is always a consideration in our choice of restaurants. Smaller salads should be offered as accompanments to entrees. The mussels were fine but the sauce was too salty. My tastes would prefer some tentacles with the calamari. Also the amount of dippimg sauce was too little for the quantity of squid. Tastier sauce wou7ld have been appreciated, and more lemon would be great. Grated cheese wasn't offered for pasta, nut had to be requested. Likewise, although there were no pepper shakers on the table, ground pepper was not offered for the salads."

  • "Food was top notch. Probably the best bruschetta I have ever had. Penne pasta with vodka sauce was also excellent. Only "issues" was our server charged us for the more expensive bottle of wine even though we were served the less expensive wine that we requested. We all got the feeling that this was intentionally done and I never feel this. Sad when you MUST to look closely at the check. Also, we did feel rushed through our meal although there were open tables."
