Diner Reviews
  • "Hands down the best value and service for a brunch. Took my mother there for the Mother's Day brunch. My table was ready immediately upon arrival and they even had a name tag reserving my table which made me feel special. The brunch is spectacular with fresh seafood, chicken, vegetables, fruit, and a beautiful dessert display. The waiter was very polite and very generous with the unlimited Mimosa's and Bloody Mary's. They also gave my mom a beautiful rose which was such a wonderful touch. The brunch is very inexpensive compared to other brunches in the area. The food and service are also stellar and superior compared to other more expensive brunches. My mom and I were extremely pleased with this experience and can't wait to return soon."

  • "I went due to great ratings on opentable with their brunch, but I should have known better looking at a place with only 8 ratings. The food was a typical hotel breakfast with added carving station for mother's day. Except for their melons all their fruits were all canned fruits. Let's just say I had a mother's day lunch with my dad and without mom or my wife, since they walked out and went somewhere else. On a positive note, the servers and managers were kind, but I go to restaurants for food as #1 priority, so so disappointing."

  • "Outstanding service and friendly staff coupled with reasonable prices is getting hard to find these days but you can find it here. The staff take pride in their work and it shows through the attentive service, friendliness and great food. The manager was visible, stopping at each table to check in with patrons. We will be back."

  • "This is a hidden gem in prime city location. The people are wonderful here, so attentive and friendly. The staff goes beyond expectation to provide quality service. The food is delicious especially the prime rib. They also do eggs to order which is a rarity at most brunches. I want to especially commendate manager, Marshall Wickham, the man is extrodinarily pleasant and accommodating. Thank you for the extra attention to my mother, for making her feel so special. "

  • "Bottomless Mimosas and Champagne, a great selection of breakfast and lunch items, excellent fruit and dessert selection combined with attentive service made it a terrific experience. We were even seated before our entire party was present. We will definitely go back!"

  • "This Easter I went to the avenue cafe and lounge for their brunch special, it was a unexpected delight. The service was amazing, the staff were kind and helpful. The food was great, especially the prime rib. There was something that really made my day, even though the restaraunt was packed the manager, I believe his name was Marshall, was going table to table checking up on everyone (myself included) and making sure their visit went well. Ps. The unlimited mimosas never hurt anyone :) "

  • "Went with my brother, his wife and three kids for Easter Brunch. Brunch was great and was the service. The price could not be beat and the mimosas were bottomless!"

  • "I was astounded by the buffet that this restaraunt had and was pleased by the ambiance of the restaraunt, it felt clean and wholesome and the staff were extremely pleasant, warm and welcoming. I loved the food as well, it was well flavoured and tasted delicious. However, I was surprised at how few people were actually there, a place this great should have had more customers, it certainly deserved it in my book. The unlimited mimosas really topped of the perfect buffet, I will definitely come back for the Easter brunch which I heard was equally as fantastic. I would most certainly recommend this restaurant to a friend."

  • "This is a Holiday Inn in the heart of Washington DC. It is close to many tourist ad political sites, and very convenient. Prices are very reasonable. It's great for a family breakfast lunch or dinner and open on holidays. WE enjoyed our Breakfast very much!!"

  • "Avenue Cafe & Lounge needs help! Our waitress kept asking, again, what our order was, only to bring wrong appetizers and drinks. The sodas were FLAAATTTTTT, on the rare occasion that they were right. Not the place for a business meeting."

  • "I went to this restaraunt for thanksgiving becuase I heard that they had a special Thanksgiving buffet, and I was ecstatic, their food was top notch and extremely plentiful. Their staff were all kind and helpful, I couldn't have asked for a better time. The atmosphere around the restaraunt was so lively and festive that the second I walked in I felt extremely happy. I was pleasantly surprised to see the director walking around and talking/welcoming all of the guests, it made me feel like the restaraunt was a home away from home. I would recommend this place for anyone, I believe I have found my new favorite place."

  • "A nice little place....near the Logan Circle area and away from the downtown area. But a good find. Very pleasant and quiet with good food at an extremely reasonable price. If you want to get away from the downtown DC madness, give this place a try. A very personable staff will greet and take care of you. We enjoyed ourselves."

  • "The was a new menu (as advertised) was amazing, and the food was extremely good, very flavorful. The service was top-notch and I had a great time here, it truly is a neighborhood gem. I have heard a lot of good things about the Sunday brunch here so I look forward to trying that out as well. After their newer renovations the place looks amazing, the tables are beautifully decorated and set-up. Everything, even the bar has been completely upgraded...would recommend this place to anyone"

  • "The food was amazing and the brunch was plentiful. It also came with a great value, with unlimited mimosas the price was great. The only problem was the restaraunt itself, the chairs are beat up and the carpet is worn out, it would be a great place if it was not so tarnished. Side note the place was uncomfortably warm and the management said that the ac would be fixed soon, so I hope it was due to the fact that it was really hot. Otherwise, the place was great the only downside was the ambiance, the servers were kind and the food was really delicious"

  • "We had spent the day volunteering for the One Million Bones installation on the National Mall, we were returning to our hotel , and passed the Avenue Cafe and Bar. Quite tired from the activities of the day, we decided to make a reservation there, since it was only a block from where we were staying. What a nice surprise ! We were warmly greeted by the staff, seated immediately, and ordered our beverages. Our order consisted of the pasta special, as well as ,the braised short ribs. Both meals were excellent, with the short ribs being among some of the best I have had. The servers were quite attentive without being overbearing. We would definitely dine at the Avenue again."

  • "The menu is very extensive and I had a hard time picking just one thing. The portions are substantial and the value is exceptional. The ribs were very fatty, but that was my only bone to pick (so to speak). Recommended."

  • "I chose this restaurant because I had a large party (15) on a Saturday evening in downtown DC. The location is great...just a few minutes walk to the bars on P St. at 15th St., but the food was just average. Typical American fare of burgers, chicken breasts and cheese steaks. No one had any complaints about the food quality, but it was nothing extraordinary and the food service was fairly slow. Our server seemed totally overwhelmed and, therefore, drinks went unfilled and it took forever to get the check."

  • "Our family dined at Avenue Cafe Bar and Grill for their Mother's Day brunch. Upon arrival we were immediately seated at a table reserved with my name on it. This was a nice personal touch. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Very nice that the manager took time to stop by each table to ensure customers dining experience was going well. The food was good and included the typical buffet offerings, including an omelet and meat carving station. Mimosas and champagne was included in the buffet price. Our only complaint was the pancakes and waffles on the buffet were cold and a little hard. The cafe should consider only preparing waffles/pancakes as patrons orders them. Overall the food and service was very good."

  • "I had a great time at this restaraunt, the food was excellent and the ambiance was great. The restaraunt jut underwent some major renovations so the place looked amazing. The service was extremely good. The waiters were very kind and pacient and knew a lot about the menu. I had a question about some of the food and the chef personally came out to talk to me. I had a great time at this restaraunt and would recommend it for anyone."

  • "I went here because they had a 1,000 point promotion. My first impression was that the front door to the place was locked even though they had a sign that said open. I was confused so I walked into the hotel (Holiday Inn) and entered through the side. I arrived at noon so it was weird that this door would be closed as it is the street entrance. I was the only person in the place when I ate lunch. The menu has plenty of choices and the food was prepared well. The service was perfect and the pricing appropriate. I just wish they did a better job filling up the place so it didn't feel like such a ghost town."

  • "The food was horrible! The worse that I've had in Washington and I've been here 30 years. The rice that came with my crab cakes must have been sitting around since lunch. There was obviously no concern about food quality."

  • "This is a hidden gem! The welcome was fantastic and all of the staff members were extremely pleasant and accomodating, several going above and beyond. Th place itself is small but comforting and the food was flavorful(especially the pasteries-which they make in-house fresh daily YUMMY!!) They even make eggs to,order not just omelets(how fantastic is that)! This is a must visit brunch location, the price is right, the service devine, food delicious. I give it an A+. My mom is wheelchair bound and they went out of the way to accomodate her and paid her extra attention. WOW!"

  • "I was super impressed by this restaraunt, this is the first time I ever went here and I was blown away by the amazing food and service. I was recommended to come here by a good friend of mine after he went to the brunch here and had an amazing experience and I regret nothing. The service was superior compared to all of the restaraunts I had recently went too. The chef even came to my table to talk to me in person, he did the same for many others as well. The food was just delicious and wonderfully flavored. I look forward to coming to this neighborhood gem again because I'm sure it will be yet another great experience."
    Dined on 3/24/2013
  • "Overall, it was "meh." There was no one there and we were able to get a large party seated quickly, but it took them over 45 minutes to make the food, so I assume they had to start the burners in the kitchen and wake the chef since we were the only people eating. The lights also were flickering a lot, which made several of our party uncomfortable. We went there out of convenience and because it was 8 pm in Logan circle and there were waits everywhere else."
    Dined on 3/12/2013
  • "After their recent renovations, the whole place is sparked with newfound life, the restaurant went from good to amazing, the staff are still just a friendly and carrying and the food is only getting better. The bar is and has gone through some seriously awesome renovations. This is defiantly my new favorite place to eat. I recommend this place to anyone and everyone, it such a nice place."

  • "I took my family to the Thanksgiving buffet. They had our table waiting on us by a window like we asked. The staff was very nice. The buffet was great and had just enough options. I recommend this if you are traveling with family to DC during this holiday. We did not stay at the hotel but it looked very nice and updated. I will consider it next time."

  • "My family went here for our first Thanksgiving Day dinner at a restaurant and it was a fabulous experience. I am not one who normally likes buffets, but this was was very clean and the food was quite good. With the exception of the turkey, everything else was seasoned quite well. My favorite food item was the carved roast beef. It was OUTSTANDING! My favorite thing I will remember was the OUTSTANDING service. From the time we walked in the door with a resounding greeting by the manager, to the time we walked out with several hardy goodbyes from the waitstaff and bartender, it was wonderful. Again, this was Thanksgiving so imagine my surprise when we walked in 5 minutes before our reservation, to find the table ready without NO wait!"

The price was defiantly worth what we paid and We walked away feeling stuffed and chipper. I would really recommend this restaurant to anyone. All in all we had an exceptional time."

I would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone. I've also heard good things about their Sunday brunch from a few people i know and look forward to going to one."
