Discovering the experience of dining in a place such as Cannes or Nice was never easier than now with the opening of the French Bistro and Raw Bar, Avenue. The only difference between dining at Avenue and dining along the Côte d'Azur, is that your gaze lands on waves on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. Avenue is located along our side of the pond, on our own eastern shores in Long Branch, New Jersey.   • "Having dined here last fall, we were eager to return for both the food and the lovely ocean view. The food was good, and the prix fixe menu was an excellent value. However, the service was less than stellar. There were a lot of very young servers who were extremely pleasant but just not real experienced or present. Many scantily clad young hostesses in high heels tottered around from here to there, mostly standing at the hostess station looking lovely. Perhaps the staffing would be better served at the tables to assist in a more seamless service experience. Be sure to dress for the heat. The A/C cannot keep this place cool...."

  • "Made late reservations on 4th of July weekend for 10pm and we were seated almost immediately. The wait staff were on their A game - the second my water glass would be half full they were right there refilling the glass. Honestly, I haven't had service like this in years. Great job!"

  • "Went with another couple hoping to impress them but I think I fell short. Wether wasn't good so we couldn't eat outside. Ocean view here makes the experience so much better. Wine list is extensive More wines to choose than food. The portions are small ok for girls not so much for guys. Waitress was quick to tell us that the price for the paella was $39.00 per person not for two. However when they brought it out they did not bring plates out for us. The waitress never came back to ask if we wanted to order another drink after the first one. Service did not fit the cost of this place. You are paying for location. Food is good no doubt but we left feeling like we didn't quite get what we paid for."

  • "Upon entry the confusion began with little girls laughing and whispering in each other's ears only to be finally led to our table. Restaurant first stated they did not know what a decanter was then decided to say they were out of them. No flex ability for dietary restrictions. Everything must be ordered exactly as shown on menu. Restaurant would not make fired oysters despite special request made days in advance. Flowers ordered for table anniversisary dinner never was addressed and never delivered. Dinner was cooked nicely but the sides that were ordered arrived 20 minutes after dinner was 80% complete with the waitress laughing they lost the dishes. Security who runs 3rd club have no class. I would never go back ever again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

  • "I had dinner here the other night with a couple of friends. The food was okay, the only thing I really enjoyed was the salad. We had 2 bottles of wine, and when we left I noticed there was a half bottle that we were not served. Wouldn't recommend this for good food. The atmosphere is beautiful, and thats about it."

Service could have been a bit more attentive, and window tables should be available to all guests, not limited to groups of six. That limitation was very disappointing. Overall, a wonderful venture, we will be back hoping for some changes. Thank You!!"

  • "My husband and our 2 friends had a reservation for 5:30. We wanted to eat outside and it started off bad when the only table was in the sun. The tables in the shade were for 5 and 6 people only. 4 people can't sit at the larger tables. We had some food restrictions for 2 people in our group. The waiter seemed flustered with that. When we said no appetizers, we had Appys at Rooneys about an hour before, the waiter said you really need to order something we r very busy and it is going to be a wait before you get your dinner. We felt obligated to get something. Our waiter suggested the small raw bar plate. It was 50.00 we didn't ask and he didn't tell us the price. Our waiter was very pushy. Our dinner for 4 was 317.00. It wasn't worth it."

My only complaint was not being able to just go upstairs to the lounge. After dropping $200 on dinner I should have received free admission and no wait to go upstairs."

  • "Although we have dined here many times, we never dined on a Sunday, when Avenue offers their Sunday Lobster Dinner. It is a 3-course dinner with a house salad, a 1 1/4 pound lobster removed from its shell and served over spring vegetables (fava beans, peas, fiddlehead ferns sprouts and orecchiette pasta) in a flavorful broth and crème brûlèe for dessert. What a treat, and only $39! As usual the noise level was high and the music was loud enough to make diners speak up, adding to the din. But the views can't be beaten and the service was okay, though he had to be reminded to bring our sparkling water and he completely misheard what wine we ordered and brought the wrong one."

  • "Having dined at Avenue before we were looking forward to taking friends there. Arrived to a lively Friday night bar scene with a stunning sunset. We were warmly welcomed and shown to a comfortable table. Our water order which was served efficiently. However, from that point onward things started to deteriorate. We were offered menus but then left for about 20 minutes waiting to order our cocktails. Eventually we attracted the attention of our waiter who took the drinks order. Our waiter then reappeared to take our food order. He seemed totally distracted, staring across the room and then asking us to repeat our order. The Branzino was out of this world. Our friend had ordered the Dover Sole which was "no longer available"."

  • "We were a party of 7 on Father Day. Had 5:30 reservations and had to wait 15 minutes just to see the maître d. It was a beautiful day and they were able to accommodate outdoor seating at our request. The service was ok at best. Had to ask for bread 3 times. They forgot our bottled water, soda, and the wine took 20 minutes to be served. The food was also ok at best. Salad overly salted, Octopus not of best quality and home made pasta flavorless. Desserts, however were outstanding. The views, being directly on the ocean cant be beat. would highly recommend this place in the summer for desserts and drinks. Not fit for foodies if your expecting a great meal."

The food is very good, lovely Champagne cocktails, restaurant ambiance is beautiful, view of the sea is great, service was just okay… I think they were busy with a wedding upstairs, and special occasion parties on the main level in and outside so it left us a bit too long without attention.   • "Was happy to finally have gotten to this restaurant. I've heard nothing but great things. We were seated behind the servers' station in the corner of the restaurant (near the windows, though) on a slow, rainy evening. Our server was great, however the staff congregated around our table, chatted and made for a less-than-pleasant experience. And it being slow, they were overstaffed. The assisting staff constantly lingered around our table, trying to take plates while we were still eating. Food was very good and the ambiance was inviting and romantic. It is unusually loud given its size, though."

  • "The Avenue plays up to NYC and Long Island visitors. The restaurant itself looks like a dressed-up cafeteria. The atmosphere is loud and arrogant... what is with the big bouncers walking around? The menu is limited and I had a difficult time finding anything of interest. At the end, my table ordered the Hamburger and Nicoise Salad. Neither was anything special and I am still confused why my bill came to $73.00. Oh, that's right... its because I was charged $10.00 per 12 oz bottle of beer. Overall, this is not a restaurant for foodies but for people looking to be part of a scene."

  • "Great Restaurant. A favorite since its opening. Food is outstanding, creative and never waivers from its excellence. I call it "clean food". Doesn't rely on sauces to carry the entre. Brunch was exceptional. One of our regular go to places. Service attentive without being annoying. No matter how busy, the service and timing of food delivery remains perfectly times."

  • "For such a popular place very disappointed on the service and the food! Our seafood tower was excellent but the service was terrible, then they mixed up two of the burgers over cooked one and didn't put cheese of the other. When we told the waiter they forgot the cheese he brought us two cold slices of cheese, instead of offering to take it back and fix it! Then sure enough half way into my sister in laws mean she find a hair in her food. We are never the family to complain but we had no choice. For such a money maker like itself they should have a better staff working for them. Such a Shane cause this was where my gf and I had our first date. Probably won't return after this visit."

  • "If you are looking for a place to go for a special occassion, this is not the place for you. The bar scene and restaurant is very energetic and would probably be good for a group of people, but it's not good at all for a romantic night. First, the restaurant does not have an 2 seat tables next to the window. We requested a table with a good view and my table had my back to the ocean. We brought this up as an issue and were told this was the best table in the restaurant for a table of 2. Food was very good (my steak was cooked to perfection / the seafood tower was delicious), but the staff was hit or miss. Our waiter was great, but both the maître d and our bartender were rude, and we were sat 30 minutes late. I will not be going back."

  • "If you are expecting a fine dining experience, this is not the place. It seems very cookie cutter like a chain restaurant rather than a high class establishment. My husband had the special, the veal chop, which was 75% fat making it essentially inedible. At a price point of $33, this was highly disappointing. I had the halibut which was actually excellent. There appears to be no dress code as people from the beach wearing shorts and t-shirts were everywhere. The service was outstanding but the server made no attempt to compensate for my husband's terrible meal."

  • "Our experience at Avenue was skewed by an an amateurish poorly trained staff. Teenage hostesses awkwardly playing Grownups, Floor Managers yelling to the Seating Hostess to put us right up near a waiters dirty dishes station and a large drafty door. The server brought our entrees as we were still eating our appetizer and proceeded to put the entrees down on our table. When we protested this rude service she said it wasn't her fault ! The restaurant seemed to allow children to roam around the restaurant as thought it was their living room. Food wise the meal was fairly good altho the beef bourguignon dish was quite poor from a taste and authenticity standpoint. "

  • "My wife and I love Avenue for "date night", special nights and any night! It has been a favorite of ours for several years. What's not to like...great prix fixe menu, fabulous view or cozy fireplace table, and always attentive and pleasant service. We love to introduce Avenue to friends from both nearby and out of town. They are consistently as pleased as we have always been. My wife thinks the moules frites is terrific and the boeuf bourguignon is a favorite of mine."
