  • "Great restaurant! We went on a Saturday night, so it was a little bit loud but still a great experience. Staff are very friendly and accommodate dietary restrictions/allergies well. My boyfriend has celiac disease and so really appreciated the gluten free menu. Our waitress even pointed out what on my plate was and wasn't gluten free, just in case! I had the ceviche of the day, which was OK, and the grilled octopus which was fantastic! My boyfriend had a chicken dish which he really enjoyed (portion size was large for that one -- a surprise at such a sophisticated restaurant). Avenida is both a romantic, intimate spot, and a place totally welcoming to kids. Parking was easy even on a Saturday night."

  • "It's been a while since we last ate at Avenida. This time we went for the prix fix brunch special. Well, let me tell you, everything was fabulous. Even in early April, the salads tasted farden fresh - not a wilted leaf to be had. Between the friendly and diverse wait staff, the hostess who lends them a hand without looking bothered, the ambiance of restaurant (I felt like I was in a small villa's dining room), and the great food, my family and I will keep this rediscovered gem on our radar."

  • "We enjoyed everything we ordered with one exception. My vegetarian husband ordered the vegetable tamale which was described as having zucchini but contained none and very little other veggies. It mostly consisted of corn meal made into a steamed loaf, which was disappointing to him. Our appetizer nachos with guacamole, pico de gallo and salsa, all house-made, was delicious. My roasted chicken with fired yucca and steamed broccoli with aoili mayo all tasted delicious. The vegan ice cream sandwich, which we shared, was amazing. We will definitely go there again."

  • "Treat yourself to an evening out at this terrific little Chestnut Hill gem. The food is absolutely delectable and the margaritas are too. Like octopus? They've got it and it's nicely grilled -- served on a bed of fresh spinach with grilled avocado. The flank steak was nicely seasoned. Portions are just right and so are the prices. Can't wait to return."

  • "What a little gem of a restaurant. Menu was diverse and interesting from the citrusy guacamole and crisp chips, to the meaty and flavorful grilled octopus and unusual salads to perfectly prepared duck, steak, chickens and vegetarian dishes too. This is latin food with flavors and spices from places like Guatemala and Ecuador. Our server was personable and friendly. Restaurant was intimate - an absolute find."

  • "Went on a busy Saturday night and had drinks at the bar first. The bartender was the best and the drinks were great. Our table was ready as soon as we finished our drinks and Monica, our waitress was not only friendly and efficient, she was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, the ingredients of each dish and her recommendations were perfect. The food was beyond delicious. We had a person with a severe allergy at our table and she knew just what to avoid. Would recommend and would comeback in a heartbeat. Great place!"

  • "This was our 2nd dinner at Avenida and we'd definitely go back again. This time the four of us split many of the appetizers instead of going with entrees. Highlights were the ceviche, octopus and the ribs. Heck, even the guacamole and ground pepper sauce was really good. Not quite as fancy as Cantina Feliz, but maybe more authentic and closer to real upscale true Mexican food."

  • "My husband and I went to Avenida on Valentine's Day because it was in the neighborhood (Mt.Airy) and we didn't want to drive downtown in the snow where we had planned to go for the evening. Avenida was packed! They had a special menu for Valentine's Day which was wonderful (and came with a complimentary glass of Cava with the chocolate desserts). The wait staff had special V-Day tee shirts. It was so festive!"

  • "We took our son, daughter-in-law, and 19-month-old granddaughter out to dinner. It was their first visit to Avenida. Our son is vegan, and the girls can eat dairy. Everyone loved the food. They gave crayons & paper to Wynn, whose food from the kid's menu was brought very quickly, & she nummed every bit of it! She also happily tasted our desserts! A good time was had by all!"

  • "Avenida is a great location but overall the food was just not good. I rate the pre entree dishes and drinks as good. The chips and guacamole were good and the drinks were fair. If you stick with basic drinks like margaritas and shots you should be satisfied but don't try anything too fancy. The pre entree service was just okay, we actually ordered an additional appetizer but it never came and it wasn't on the bill so we think our server just forgot. Entre portion was fair, and that is being generous. We wanted the tamale and salmon but Avenida was all out. So, we settled on the mahi mahi and chicken and we were sadly disappointed. The fish was very salty and the chicken was not seasoned at all."

  • "Just got back from dinner. Found this place on Open Table and saw some good reviews. Glad we chose it. Cozy and friendly place, excellent food and service. Black bean soup was the best I've ever had. Ahi tuna ceviche was awesome; mango salsa fantastic. The calamari got high marks, too. around the table, we had the mahi mahi, chicken and crab cakes. all were great, served with interesting vegetables and plated well. the margaritas were perfect. Try the sweet potato upside down cake with butterscotch vanilla ice cream; you won't be disappointed. Nice neighborhood spot. Can't wait to go back."

  • "We had an amazing time at Avenida! First, we ordered a pitcher of margaritas at the bar - which was fantastic! The bartender was friendly & fun to talk to while we waited for our table. Our waitress was great - very knowledgable with a great personality. We got a bunch of small plates to share & they were all delicious. Entrees were equally as good - I personally really enjoyed the mahi mahi which was on the spicy side. The drinks continued to flow all night: wine, sangria & margaritas! It was a fun & relaxed atmosphere, great food & drink, topped off with Fabulous desserts and la cucharacha shots - incredible!!!!"

  • "We have been at Avenida several times. We go because we have two kids and it is an adult neighborhood restaurant that is kid friendly. When you have kids you are often relegated to Friendly's, Applebees or Dave and Busters. Which is fine, but sometimes you want to go to a nicer place. My kids love the Pasta con Queso and the Cheese Quesadillas. We love the salmon and crab cakes. The deserts are wonderful. We are thankful that are kids can never finish them so that we get a taste."

  • ".... for the second time. Our special night is also New Year's Eve, so we are used to higher prices for special menus and slipshod service. We were able to get a reservation the day before at Avenida. The staff did a good job of managing the high volume. We had our table in a few minutes, drinks and food arrived in a reasonable time. They had a special menu, more than we wanted to eat or spend, but we could order from the regular menu. We shared a calamari appetizer and both my husband and I got the glazed duck with cinnamon-spiced sweet potato puree and cooked watercress. Everything was delicious, seasonable, perfectly cooked! We were too full for dessert. 4 not 5 stars for ambiance because of noise level in the dining room."

  • "We went to Avenida on a Saturday night. We had been there once quite a while ago and had not had a chance to get back until now. We went with friends who had never been there. All four of us were happy with our choices of appetizers and entrees. Our server was very friendly and helpful. She made good recommendations which we followed and thoroughly enjoyed. Serving sizes were not large but they were certainly reasonable. There was some delay in getting the proper utensils such as soup spoons, utensils for dessert, etc. but that did not prevent us from considering the evening a success and agreeing that we would be back. We noticed that there is an outdoor dining area so hopefully we will have the opportunity to eat outside."

  • "I held my boyfriend's 50th birthday party here for 15 people on Friday night. The food, service and ambiance were fantastic! We had the best time ever with plenty of food and great cocktails and really good top shelf tequila. The flat iron steak was tender, the yucca fries were tasty and the empanadas and basa fish were really good with great sauces. We are frequent patrons of Avenida for happy hour and dinner inside and outside in the summer. I highly recommend this gem in the neighborhood and will continue to go here for a great time. The owners/chefs are also really nice people and genuinely love what they do - it shows!"

  • "We ended up spending $50 per person, and the experience was nothing special. The appetizers were not substantial...salsas and guacamole were not generous, even chips weren't enough. They need to be more generous with the appetizer portions - people like to share them. There is no reason salsa or guacamole should be not even halfway filling a tiny bowl...especially when these items (chips, salsa) are gratis at most latino restaurants. Pumpkin soup was also a stingy portion...didn't even come halfway up small bowl. Entrees were okay. The waitstaff was clueless, like untrained family members, which is fine, but not at those prices. Service was clumsy, and it was almost impossible to flag anyone down. Felt ripped off."

  • "Avenida is a great place to go for drinks and appetizers or to go for a full sit down dinner. They have some amazing blood orange mojitos (both with and without alcohol). Their soup options never disappoint and the entrees are unique and tasty. My favorite dish is their duck breast. It is tender and so delicious. My sister loves when they offer pepian, a traditional Guatemalan dish. One of my best friends loves the Guatemalan tamale. You just can't go wrong with whatever you order. I have been back three times in the past two months. I highly recommend it. Now I just need to try to get there for brunch. I hear it is also amazing."

  • "We come to Avenida at least every two months for dinner or brunch. We are never disappointed. The atmosphere is cozy and friendly. It has a Mount Airy vibe. The apps are excellent. We always get a queso fundido. The entress are great as well. I especially like the scallops. The sangria is refreshing and the margaritas strong. Parking is on the street. We never have a problem finding a space within a block. Weekends happy hour are packed as there are drink and food specials."
